Hello everyone!

We hope that you will join us for our December 1 day event this weekend: Sunday December 13th, 2020 from 12pm-9pm.

Here are some details about this upcoming event:

How do I get in?

  • Here is a link to the Discord server: https://discord.gg/3KvGY56

  • Tickets for this event are $15.00, and you can purchase them here: www.kanar.club/payment.

  • Please note that paying before Sunday will help speed up the check-in process! If you pay once the event has started, you'll be checked-in as staff becomes available.

  • Due to COVID-19, we are not taking any cash or check payments at this time.

What do I need to do before I can play?

How do I get XP?

  • You do nothing! As a thank you to you, the players, for sticking with Kanar through a global pandemic and adapting to our online events, each person who attends the 1 day event will be given 30xp.

  • The check in staff will keep a ledger of all who log on to make sure you get your XP for attending!

  • Special times call for special circumstances. This is a one time opportunity that will not be repeated.

Can I do modules?

Once I'm online, how can I ask staff out of game questions?

  • There is an area on Discord you can post your OOG questions.

  • You can also tag anyone who has the role of GUARD (they are our Admin staff), and they will happily help you, or direct you to the appropriate staff member!

How late can I purchase a ticket to be considered an "attendee"?

  • As long as you purchase your ticket, and are checked-in to the server before 9pm, you will be considered an attendee and will get your XP!

Do I get to do a sign out for this?

  • No. As usual, the November sign out denotes what your character will be doing all winter long. If, however, you need to correct your November sign out to do crafting over the winter you can email the Game Master at: gm@kanar.club

  • The check in staff will keep a ledger of all who log on to make sure you get your XP for attending!

Can I teach/learn skills?

  • Because there will be no sign outs for this event, you will not be able to teach or learn skills. This includes learning new spells.

Because digital events are new and ever-changing, we've put together a short video tour of what Kanar's digital event set up looks like. I would highly recommend you give this a watch especially if it's your first time joining us:

If you have any further questions about the upcoming event you can email any of our staff: www.kanar.club/staff

Cantrell Sponsorship 2021

Cantrell Sponsorship 2021

Hello players,

As we approach the end of the year, we are renewing the Cantrell Sponsorship, in memory of the late Shane Cantrell, a long time member of Kanar. This sponsorship covers the cost of a season pass for 2 players per year, decided via essay application and selected by a committee of three. As a reminder, this does not cover the cost of the annual membership dues.

Marcus Schwimmer has already volunteered to be on the committee, and thus I am seeking 2 more individuals, who will read all of the essays and decide together which players will receive the sponsorship for the 2021 season. Committee members must be veteran members of K1, cannot be members of the Board of Directors, and cannot be an applicant.

Please email treasurer@kanar.club if you are interested.

Anyone may apply for the sponsorship. Applications must submit a 750+ word essay describing the following three things:

  1. How the club has benefited you during your time playing

  2. How you are working to give back to the club

  3. Why receiving a season pass at no cost would make a difference to you

Once I receive the essay, I'll redact any identifying information before passing it onto the committee (such as name, place of work, etc), who will then judge each essay on the three categories above, along with general readability, and provide a score.

Entries will be accepted for 1 month (until January 9th, 2021 11:59 pm), beginning immediately, and should be sent to treasurer@kanar.club with a "Cantrell Sponsorship" subject line.

The 2 winners will be announced at Winter Feast.

Essays are ultimately not anonymous and may be quoted in part or whole by KGE for club purposes. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I hope to see many entries this year!

— Karigan
KGE Treasurer

Update:

Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in sitting on the committee of this sponsorship! I received a lot of emails, and thus felt it was only fair to draw names through an online program. Our committee members will be Marcus Schwimmer, Alisha McDevitt, and Stephen Whitaker.

Cantrell Sponsorship

Once per year, we award a Season Pass to two players who write an essay describing the positive effects of Kanar on their life, how they are giving back to the game as a player, and how such a sponsorship would help meet their financial needs. This sponsorship is managed by the Sponsorship Committee, which is under the Treasurer’s direction.

Committee Membership: The committee should consist of the Treasurer and three volunteers. These volunteers must be veteran members of K1, and may not be a member of the Board of Directors or an applicant for the sponsorship. Members may be removed at any time at the Treasurer’s discretion.

Applications: The Treasurer should post a call for essays soon after the November event. Essays should be 750 words or longer and submitted directly to the Treasurer’s official email address. Essays must be received within one month of the date the call for essays was issued. The Treasurer will then redact any necessary information from the essays and forward them to committee volunteers.

Voting: This process needs to be established, it was not necessary as of January 2020 due to the inaugural year only receiving two essays that met the minimum word guidelines.

Awarding: Winners should be announced at the Winter Feast. Their Season Pass should be recorded on the ACU List for the next year, along with notes about why it was granted, and notes should be made in the Treasurer’s Log. This does not waive their requirement to pay the Annual Membership Dues.

November Event Details

November Event Details

You walk along a newly-made trail just east of Fennor with the rest of the masses, approaching the ritual area Mantle Mages from southern Narrdmyr have been preparing for weeks. Until today, the area has been unapproachable, locked down and heavily guarded by a blend of both Narrdmyran and local forces. You pass them as you walk, their eyes scanning the crowds for trouble, until you reach a gathering point at the far end of a large field.

Looking over what used to be farmland, you notice that it’s been nearly completely leveled. You see that the ground has been intricately crossed with lines of various colors and materials, connecting dozens if not hundreds of points across the dirt. The points themselves cannot be seen from here.

A hush falls over the crowd as a group of figures dressed in green or blue robes enter the field and stand at different points, followed by two figures in white. Their places taken, the two white-robed figures being chanting softly, too softly to make out the words. The winds begin to build and whip around them, their arms raising with their voices. Some around you shield their eyes from the dust.

Pulses of light jump from each blue or green robe into the ground and race to a point on either end of the field. With a final shout, barely audible over the wind, a crack of lightning streaks from the western end to the eastern, followed by several more, until with a flash the portal stands:

You see a field beyond you where a sea of tents is set, a castle standing proudly over them. The image is beyond a half-circle border of pure white light. As the wind dies down, guards take their place on the pathway to the portal to guide travelers along.

Daggett awaits.

Hello everyone!

We hope that you will join us for our November event this weekend, November 20th - 22nd. It will take place online using Discord.

This event will be run differently than our previous digital events. Please read this write up for more information on the event including crafting, getting paid, influence, and chits! Likewise, the combat system for online events has been fine tuned. Please see below under “Will there be combat?”.

Here are some details about this upcoming event:

When is the event?

  • The event will start Friday, November 20th at 5 pm, and will end on Sunday, November 22nd at 5 pm.

How do I get in?

  • Here is a link to the Discord server: https://discord.gg/3KvGY56
  • You can purchase tickets for this event at www.kanar.club/payment. Tickets for this event are our standard event fee of $20.00
  • Please note that paying before Friday will help speed up the check-in process! If you pay for the event during the event you will be let in as staff becomes available. If you're doing so at 3am, it will take some time for you to gain access to the event since the staff is probably asleep. Please rest assured that we are all working diligently on this, and we will get to you as quickly as we can.
  • Due to COVID-19, we are not taking any cash or check payments at this time.

What do I need to do before I can play?

How do I get XP?

  • Like all of our digital events, we will have ways to earn additional XP available to all players! You can earn XP by doing the following:
    • Show me your war face: Dress in battle garb and make your scariest war face - 6xp
    • Tools of the Trade: show off your crafting tools and tell us a little about how they're used. - 6xp
    • Soup Season: favorite hearty winter soup or stew recipe - 6xp
    • Take a picture of your favorite piece of your garb and tell us why it's your favorite - 6xp
    • Writing Prompt "War-torn": write a journal entry about your character's thoughts about and experiences with war. - 12xp
    • Writing Prompt "Fall Fun": write a journal entry about your character's favorite seasonal activity - 12xp
    • NPC - 4xp per hour

  • There will be a room in the Discord channel for you to post your submissions
    • This XP will cap at 12 extra XP (for a total of 30 XP for the whole event).
  • Since Discord doesn't allow for large files to be posted, you may post large files (like videos) to the Kanar Facebook group.

Can I do modules?

  • Yes! GM staff will be on and off all weekend and will be working with those that require modules.

Can I teach/learn skills?

  • Absolutely! Just make sure that you are role-playing the lessons appropriately.

Will there be combat?

Once I'm online, how can I ask staff out of game questions?

  • There is an area on Discord you can post your OOG questions.
  • You can also tag anyone who has the role of GUARD (they are our Admin staff), and they will happily help you, or direct you to the appropriate staff member!

How late can I purchase a ticket to be considered an "attendee" for sign out purposes?

  • You can buy tickets to the event until 4:50 pm on Sunday. So long as you buy a ticket before then and get checked in to the server, you will be considered an attendee and can do a sign-out!

My character was hanging out in the "in-between events" server! What will happen to that?

  • PM and GM staff will be locking the in-between events server at 5pm when the November event begins. The server will reactivate after the November event sign outs are completed and GM staff has sorted players into the towns the plan to stay in until the next event. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the GSOM staff members.

The Battle for Daggett: Player Overview, November Event

The Battle for Daggett:
Player Overview, November Event

The Story So Far

In the southern kingdom of Narrdmyr, along a busy merchant road in Duchy Dynforth, lies the small town of Daggett. Despite being little more than a map dot, Devary’s county seat is an important stop for both political players attending to County business and shrewd guildmasters vying for holding-wide contracts.

Courtiers and merchants alike joke in their chambers that whoever controls Daggett controls the Duchy, but they may be more right than they know. Centered as it is between the crossroads of three vital trade routes and a major salt mine, its lack of defense against two incoming armies would trouble any with a mind for strategy.

To the Crimson Brotherhood, control of Daggett means cutting off supplies to the enemy and securing their crusade north.

To the newly declared Kingdom of Peth, it is the perfect access point to invade the rest of Dynforth while Gilcrest’s forces are busy holding the line against the Crimson Brotherhood; take Daggett, and Dynforth is theirs!

To Novashan, Daggett, and Duchy Dynforth are the last line of defense before the Crimson Brotherhood and ever-expanding Peth are on their doorstep.

Duchess Gilcrest has sent a plea north to Novashan: help defend this town, for if it falls, you’re next.

Town Highlights

A lot needs doing in Daggett to be fortified and battle-ready. Every job could use extra hands to prepare for the incoming forces, and player actions will have a noticeable effect on gameplay. The more fortified the town becomes, the more advantages and influence each area will have in the final battle on Sunday.

  • Upon arriving in Daggett, magically inclined PCs will notice something disturbing in the air: positive magic is being disrupted here. All positive magic spells take double slots to cast. Positive mass incants don’t radiate through the air, instead only affecting those directly touching the caster. This, coupled with the already minimal number of casters, is already leaving medical tents overflowing and understaffed. They happily welcome anyone willing to help, no matter their level of experience in medical matters.

  • The small farming community is stuffed with soldiers and tensions are running high. Tents fill every open area that isn’t dedicated to smithing and crafting for the incoming threat. Fields normally growing winter wheat are used for training drills. Taverns are running dangerously low on brews.

  • Weak, makeshift fortifications have been partly constructed, siege weapons are in process of being built, and smiths are pounding away at weapons and armor. More crafters are present than what such a small town would normally support, likely from the call for aid and rumors of impressive (some say enchanted) work chit raffle prizes said to come from Duchess Gilcrest’s personal armory.

  • A small castle in the center of town stands as the county seat. Count Rhodry Buxton and Countess Gillian Pendelton have tried to make it accommodating for the Duchess and other political figures who have gathered at the front, and the usually sleepy castle has become a crowded hive of activity.

Work Chits and Getting Paid

Duchess Gilcrest has implemented a work chit system for all services performed in the defense of Daggett. Instead of coins, players who volunteer to ‘work’ will be paid by supervisors in paper chits. Half will be kept by the work supervisor and filed with the bank/item shop, and the other half will be issued to workers for completed projects. They work just like money and can be used at the Daggett Exchange to buy items and prizes.

Please be aware that this is a storyteller system, not an Econ system. Chits cannot be traded between players and cannot be bought with Novashani coins.

Crafting

You can earn chits by performing tasks, donating crafting time, and teaching skills. All you need to do is enter a workspace, register to volunteer your services, and roleplay with other PCs and NPCs working in the area until your hour is up. Please @ staff when you’re starting or stopping craft time so we can make sure you get paid!

All who are willing to teach the craft they’re working on to other volunteers may speak to work supervisors to earn an extra fee for each volunteer taught. (We’d like to see PCs teaching other PCs skills during volunteer crafting time, please contact story staff to sign up as a volunteer skill instructor so we can connect students and teachers.)

Rewards

There are a number of really cool rewards available for purchase with work chits at the Daggett Exchange. Players may choose from a variety of basic and consumable items ranging from simple herbs and metals to an in-game raffle for some really impressive prizes. Keep an eye out for rumors about what they might be!

Chits must be exchanged for items or coins by the end of the event. All coins will be applied to player banks and files by the next event, and any printed tags can be collected from Econ staff upon return to live events.

Influence Ratings

Influence Ratings represent the strength of each aspect of the town. These ratings are tracked by story staff throughout the event and are directly controlled by player interaction: each hour contributed to an area in need of assistance will increase that area’s Influence Rating, including time spent crafting and time spent teaching. Players will also be able to purchase items in the Daggett Exchange they can then donate to areas in need, which increases that area’s supply stores and overall Influence Rating.

Story staff will take Influence Ratings into account during the final battle on Sunday. Several notable Influence Ratings (Medical, Armaments, Siege Fortifications, etc) will be trackable by players via regular staff updates on a Progress Board. Others we’ll be tracking and adding to in secret, so keep your wits about you for modules and random encounters!

How are we getting there?

Just outside of Fennor, a crew of foreign mages and ritualists have been working tirelessly for nearly a month to prepare a Transportation circle leading to Daggett. They are well-guarded and secretive, sharing little about what they’re doing or what’s happening in Narrdmyr and letting no one get close to their workspace.

Transport will be provided via portal travel so that all between-event actions can be honored. If your PC decided to travel to Daggett on foot or horseback, that will count as their between event action.

My PC isn’t interested in going to Daggett, what do I do?

Players who don’t want to bring their PCs to the southern kingdom have the option to play a dedicated NPC this event. You can choose from a selection of pre-generated characters, or you can create and submit a level 3-5 NPC of your own. NPCs can be crafting heavy, combat-oriented, politically motivated, or looking to help and heal! Keep an eye out for our list of ready-made NPCs by the end of the week.

For this event only, all rewards, items, and monetary collections made as dedicated NPCs will be applied to your PC (make a note in your signout that you played an NPC, story will get your unexpected windfall explained in your next update). We expect you to NPC responsibly and play NPCs as you would any normal character. Irresponsible use of dedicated NPCs will be issued one warning before being removed from playing that NPC.

If you wish to be a dedicated NPC for the event, please email GM@kanar.club no later than November 13, 2020, one week before the event. If you have any questions, please email at any time!

Between Events Server

Between Events Server

Hello everyone!

The GSOM staff have put their heads together and are opening up a “soft role-playing server”. This is a discord server that will be up and running 24/7 between games for players to go and RP with one another.

This server has set locations that do not change, and the idea is that on your character sign-out you can say “I am going to spend the month in Yardsmuth!”, hop on to the server, and then RP all month long in Yardsmuth with others who are there. Each location will be one large inn room for everyone to join having both a text and a voice chat, and will not have side or private rooms.

This will be a role-play only server, so there will obviously be some restrictions. Here are a list of things you can and cannot do:

Can:

  • Roleplay daily life with other players in a respectful manner

  • Discuss the last event: what you did, what you felt, the fallout afterward, etc

Cannot:

  • No titles or privileges may be granted.

  • Mechanics are off. No coins or tags may be exchanged, no skills may be used or learned outside of your sign-out.

  • Plot is also off. GMs will not be running NPCs or answering story questions between events.

  • No 'private' conversations outside of the main room. The game may not be taken into private messages and we will not be offering private rooms. It's the official stance of the GM staff that if a conversation is important and sensitive enough to need a private room, it needs to happen during the event and not between.

Locations: Here are the locations that will be available:

  • Crossroads

  • Frestaetae

  • Nightbourne

  • Wyndover

  • Yardsmuth

In order to participate you must have:

  • An ARF on file

  • Paid your yearly membership dues

  • No outstanding balance on your account

  • Paid for the most recent event, and submitted a character sign out before the 8 day deadline.

Between event role-playing will begin the day after the sign-out due date. GSOM staff will check you in after they have verified that you have completed a sign out for this month.

Please note that there is 20 mile radius travel restriction. If your character is staying within 20 miles of one of these towns, you may join the server.

If you choose to spend your time between games exploring new areas, going on adventures, or doing other things that are NOT within 20 miles of one of these 5 towns, you will not be able to participate in the server.

Special note: For this month only (between the October and November 2020 events), we will forgo the travel restriction. You may join the one closest to where you are traveling on your sign out.

Thank you!

- Aaron
Secretary

October Event

News is spreading across Novashan of a massive drinking festival being hosted by one of the county’s up-and-coming brewery empires, The Tree and Compass. Said to rival any of the kingdom’s other yearly harvest celebrations, Ale Hallow’s will be held in Fennor, where its mayor Iona Arlan has based her main brewery and flagship tavern. Her biggest and most controversial offer: a massive discount on ale for the people of Ilveresh. Other brewers have scoffed, saying that the people of Ilveresh are notorious for the volume of ale they can consume, that she’s sure to run dry before the festival is through and ruin her reputation. The crew at the Tree and Compass Brewery have stated that they’re up to the challenge.

Rumor has it Iona’s looking to draw more people to move into her town, but it has some sort of old, dark secret the villagers don’t talk about unless deep into their cups of ale. The northern forest, neighbor to the swamps of Ilveresh, has had sightings of odd things moving between the trees when the sun goes down. The yearly local warning has gone up: don’t walk the trails alone at night. And die loudly.

Hello everyone!

We hope that you will join us for our October (All Hallows) event this weekend, October 16th - 18th. It will take place online using Discord.

In remembrance of our dear friend Jason, we will be holding Yanoro's 3rd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest on Saturday, Oct. 17th from 5pm-6pm. If you wish to participate, please private message Gilly (real name Holly) or Lia (real name Cassie) during the event and submit to them a picture of your entry. Voting will take place from 6pm-6:30pm.

SO! Let's get on with some details about this upcoming event:

When is the event?

  • The event will start Friday, October 16th at 5 pm, and will end on Sunday, October 18th at 5 pm.

How do I get in?

  • Here is a link to the Discord server: https://discord.gg/3KvGY56
  • You can purchase tickets for this event at www.kanar.club/payment. Tickets for this event are our standard event fee of $20.00
  • Please note that paying before Friday, October 16th will help speed up the check-in process! If you pay for the event during the event you will be let in as staff becomes available. If you're doing so at 3 am, it will take some time for you to gain access to the event since the staff is probably asleep. Please rest assured that we are all working diligently on this, and we will get to you as quickly as we can.
  • Due to COVID-19, we are not taking any cash or check payments at this time.

What do I need to do before I can play?

  • There's a few things that you should check off your checklist before you can start playing this weekend:
    • Make sure you have filed an ARF this year
    • Make sure you have paid for this event
    • Make sure that you have no outstanding balance owed to KGE for past events
    • Make sure you have paid your yearly membership dues
  • If you have questions about any of these or are unsure if you have an outstanding balance please email the Treasurer at: treasurer@kanar.club

How do I get XP?

  • Like all of our digital events, we will have ways to earn additional XP available to all players! You can earn XP by doing the following:
    • Post a brewing recipe - 6xp
    • Post an autumn soup or stew recipe - 6xp
    • Write an autumn or All Hallows poem - 6xp
    • Dress up as your favorite NPC monster - 6xp
    • Record yourself wearing your kit, and telling a ghost story - 12xp
    • Carve a pumpkin - 12xp

  • There will be a room in the Discord channel for you to post your submissions
    • This XP will cap at 12 extra XP (for a total of 30 XP for the whole event).
  • Since Discord doesn't allow for large files to be posted, you may post large files (like videos) to the Kanar Facebook group.

Can I do modules?

  • Yes! GM staff will be on and off all weekend and will be working with those that require modules.

Can I teach/learn skills?

  • Absolutely! Just make sure that you are role-playing the lessons appropriately.

Will there be combat?

  • Yes, you may run into an encounter that requires combat! We will be following the combat rules created for the last event by our PM staff.
  • You can read the rules of combat here!

Because digital events are new and ever-changing, we've put together a short video tour of what Kanar's digital event set up looks like. I would highly recommend you give this a watch especially if it's your first time joining us:

If you have any further questions about the upcoming event you can email any of our staff: www.kanar.club/staff

Thank you all for being a part of this community; please stay safe and healthy!

Season Announcement

Season Announcement

Hello everyone!

There have been a lot of questions about the remainder of our season (October and November), specifically about whether or not they will happen in-person.

The Board has spoken extensively with Kiri B, our Safety 1st, amongst ourselves, and listened to feedback from the player base. While Michigan is slowly lifting Covid restrictions and allowing different businesses to re-open, we still don’t feel it is viable for us yet; even with proper social distancing, hand washing stations, accessible and abundant hand sanitizer, restrictions on cooking/eating, etc.

As a result, we have concluded that the remainder of our season will be digital (through the Discord server), we will not have an in-person Feast in February 2021, and our October and January Board Meetings will be held online through Discord.

We know that it’s hugely disappointing. Trust me, we feel it too. As it stands we do not feel that we have an appropriate amount of time to get the field of play as close to “sanitary” as possible. The net cost of purchasing hand sanitizer for the whole field, hand washing stations, water, soap, and everything else that comes along with it is just not justifiable for the last 2 events of the year, not to mention the exorbitant amount of work that will fall on volunteers to take care of it. We also do not want people in our community to feel as though staff members are looking for a reason to kick people out. Everyone should be welcome at our game at all times.

While 2021 does remain unknown, we feel confident that supplies can be budgeted (if not acquired) over the winter, and that all the logistics of running safe in-person games can be thoroughly thought out and not rushed.

We never, ever want any player to suffer or get sick because we rushed into things too quickly.

So as disappointing as that all is, I DO have some good news.

The GSOM staff has put their heads together and will be opening up a beta-test “soft role-playing server”. This will be a discord server that will be up and running 24/7 between games for players to go and RP with one another.

This will be a role-play only server, so there will obviously be some restrictions such as (but not limited to): staff will not be running things like NPCs, you can’t do things like grant titles, mechanics will be off, and you won’t be able to do things related to the economics of the game.

We realize that people don’t get the same kind of roleplay during online games as they do in person, and it leaves you wanting more. Likewise, sometimes you get into a REALLY HEAVY RP moment right at the end of an event. This would be a way for people to talk to one another in character all month long.

This server will have set locations that do not change, and once the beta-test is finished the idea is that on your character sign-out you can say “I am going to spend the month in Yardsmuth!”, hop on to the server, and then RP all month long in Yardsmuth with others who are there. The Yardsmuth server room would be one large inn room for everyone to join, and would not have side or private rooms.

More details about this server will become available in the next few weeks, so please look for another email with that information!

Another thing that we will be doing is a 1-day digital event in December (the date is still TBD, but it will be relayed to the community as soon as that is nailed down. Don’t worry, it won’t be near the end of the month). This event will be free to Season Pass Holders, and will cost $15 for non-pass holders.

This event will be a way for Season Pass Holders to be balanced again with pay-per-event players since we only had 1 weekend of game instead of 2 in June, and is also another way for players to earn XP.

In accompaniment to the December 1 day event, we will be doing a Kanar community-wide Secret Santa gift exchange! Details for that will come out towards the middle/end of October, so please be on the lookout.

I would like to take a moment to thank all of our staff members who volunteer their time so graciously. Rather than just canceling the entire season outright, they have all come together and done some really amazing things.

Thank you for reading. Please stay safe and healthy, and I look forward to seeing you all in person next season.

Open Letter from Interim GM1

Open Letter from Interim GM1

Hello, players! I know there's been a lot of change in the game lately, and I want to thank everyone for their patience while everything gets straightened out. I'd like to explain a couple of things about what's currently going on with our events, to bring up a current K1 policy I've heard a few complaints about, and to give everyone a story teaser for the digital event next weekend.

Interim GM 1st: The GM 1st is currently suspended pending the completion of a JRB. As a member of the Gamemastery Staff, I was asked to take over event management and GM responsibilities until either the current GM returns to action or a new GM 1st is appointed by the BoD. I'm continuing to work with other staff members on the online events. We're on track to be ready for the September event next weekend and are working on a few different plans for October.

Ongoing Story: All story run outside of online events is currently on pause and will be restarted once the current staff situation has resolved. I don't have access to live plot write-ups, so I can't currently give out information to players about those plots. If you didn't encounter it at an online event, it's likely paused. Thank you for your understanding while we settle in on the interim GM staff.

K1 Policy Reminder: I've received complaints that there have been players engaging in between-events role-playing, specifically on private Discord servers. K1's policy K1-POL-001 19.01: Meta-Gaming says the following:

The Kanar Game Master Staff strives to see that it's game system and the “spirit” by which it is played are fair and just to all members. The Kanar Game Staff Operations Managers (KGSOM) shall enforce the wishes of the Game Master Staff concerning meta-gaming and shall frown on all forms of it. Therefore, the KGSOM has set forth this statement of policy to be followed by all members of K1.

“Meta-gaming” is defined as the use of out-of-game (OOG) knowledge to effect in-game (IG) events, the conscious spreading of false information OOG to affect IG events and / or for IG benefit. This includes, but is not limited to, coins, tagged items, the interactions of characters during times other than KGE sanctioned events, and / or the granting of titles or privileges for characters during times other than KGE sanctioned events. This includes OOG areas, during game time. Tags not on your person are at “home”, and not at play.

Meta-gaming is against the spirit of the game we administer and any form of it shall be turned over to the Game Master Staff to determine if disciplinary action needs to be taken. Such forms might include chat boards on the internet, parties, mass e-mails, etc.

The policy specifies that any character activity outside of the game's field of play (which is currently the KGE Event Server on Discord) and/or outside of gameplay hours is, by our definition, meta-gaming. If it's happening between events through a non-Kanar channel, it's against our current policy.

I realize that players may not be aware that our meta-gaming policy is so specific about between-event actions. If you have a group or server where you talk to each other as your characters or make in-character plans, please close it down by Monday (Sept 14). Any groups reported to be operating after this date risk facing meta-gaming charges.

After all the talk about what you can't do, here's what you can do:

Players are absolutely allowed to have groups for planning event logistics out of character. You don't need to delete your group's Facebook page where you plan meals and camp workdays. As long as you're not talking to each other in character or gathering game information you intend to take into character later, you're probably just fine. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask.

Our between-event actions are determined by a combination of two things: the character sign-out process we submit after events and emails to the GM. The details you include about what your character is doing between events in your sign-out are what game staff uses to figure out how the world progresses when we're not in Ilveresh and what needs to wait until the next sanctioned event. Players can also send couriers and message spells to other characters between events via emails to gm@kanar.club. Messages should include the text, who it's for, where and how you're sending it, and any important details about the document, and it'll be forwarded to the email the message's recipient uses for Kanar communication.

Considering the circumstances we're in with online instead of live events, I plan on discussing a compromise for character interactions with the GSOM Committee. If you have any thoughts or questions about the game, please email me at gm@kanar.club.

September Event Teaser

The outpost of Favianae was never meant to hold this many people.

Barely north of the Bayomal Divide, this outpost of tents and wood-walled buildings is a camp split along faction lines. Those who live behind the wooden walls speak of the vagrants and thieves of Char who live in the tents and the barely-tolerated merchant caravans camped outside the town. The tent-dwelling rogues and gamblers mock the 'respectable folk' too afraid to venture outside of their walls and complain of treasure hunters coming to town. The two merchant caravans are too busy feuding amongst themselves to bother with much more than making certain those traveling through their camps aren't spies from the other side or sneaks come to steal goods from their wagons.

The guards of Alari's Gate have another story to tell. No one patrols the woods alone anymore. There are grim reports, flashes of red or yellow scales and reptilian tracks in the woods, and rumors of unrest coming up from the south. As the season begins to change, tensions are higher than ever to settle the caravan conflict and get everyone to their destinations before the harvest festivals begin and the monsters of All Hallow's take control of the night. Will tensions cool, or is Favianae a border outpost ready to boil over?
