Thank you for a wonderful June 2020 event

Now that I have had a moment and the 2020 June on-line event has passed, I would like to thank some of the people involved in making this happen: First, to Kiri Brasseur for taking up the reigns and taking a small idea and turning it into a whole 3-day event. Your hard efforts were amazing.

Thank you to Kaitlin Bereczky and Jake Smith for providing Kiri with the moral support needed to not go insane during this process.

Thank you to Jenn Blair, Aaron Polk, David Chapman, Marcus Schwimmer, Matt Ash, Tashina O, the BoD, and the rest of the Media and Admin Teams. Thank you for the great efforts in providing a wonderful Discord server in which to play and all of the extra efforts during the event to sign players in and address staff issues quickly as they arose.

To all of the NPC Cast members that floated in and out to help the story along and provide the atmosphere of the city of Crossroads, thank you.

To the GM Staff, PM Staff, and CBM Staff for helping me in their varied ways allowing me to bounce ideas off and support me, so I did not go insane. Thank you.

To Steve Jones, Amanda Aquino, Christiana Ringbloom, Rath, and the various members who helped me wrangle the large groups going on backlogged modules and get them all to jump off the cliff at the same time, thank you.

To all the rest of the people who assisted even a minor bit, your helping efforts may not have seemed that much, but you were all important in making this wonderful, thank you.

Lastly, to the player base who attended and had a good time, you make the staff efforts worth it. Thank you for your fun, your energy, and your feedback to make us better.

Sincerely,
~ Tim Schafer – GM 1st

Rest In Peace

Rest In Peace

obituary and funeral information
By Pixie Light.jpg

It is with a heavy heart that we have an announcement for the community. Yesterday, Saturday the 13th, Jason Morgan passed away while at his home. We are still waiting on the official results and there are not yet any official plans for a service.

Jason loved this community despite its ups and downs. He enjoyed his time on the field and all the friendships he made. The community helped him so much to grow and become a better person. He wanted the same for everyone else.

Community Cash & Paypal Donations

Amanda Plitchta and Alyssa Short will be collecting cash donations, or PayPal donations if you wish to give directly to Cassie and her family. For cash donations please contact Alyssa or Amanda directly. For PayPal, you can donate to the following money pool, which will not charge any fees on the receiving end.

Community GoFund Me

KGE Community,

Recently, a club member, Jason (Yanoro) passed away. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, you know that he was a huge advocate for our club and a force for good. Jason would always go out of his way to make new members feel welcomed and could often be found telling stories around a campfire.

Jason was the partner of club member Cassie (Lia) and a father figure to her two children. Jason and Cassie were planning on purchasing a house together this month and starting a new chapter of their lives together.

I will always picture Jason running around the property with his brightly glowing spear and the largest smile on his face. He loved our game and always said that it was the people who kept him coming back. Jason could also be seen in the parking lot giving everyone the biggest hugs and always telling them how much he had missed seeing them only if it had just been a few days since their last parting.

Yanoro a true light in the darkness. It was amazing how whenever I thought a fight was lost he always showed up ready to keep pushing on. When all hope was lost he was the light that pressed you to take just one more step forward. While Yanoro will no longer visit Illveresh his spirit will live on in the stories we tell and the laughter that always echoes through our woods.

A GoFundMe has been set up in honor of Jason. All of the donations will go to Cassie and their family. If you would like to donate please go to - https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-honor-of-jason-morgan-for-cassie-and-their-boys

Thank you for providing your support in this time of remembrance.

Sincerely,
Marcus (Sir Tralik)

June Event Details

June Event Details

Friday June 19th Answering a couple of quick questions:

"When can I get on the server to test out my settings/etc.?"

You can get on right now if you want, but we will not have active staff or begin approving people until the event's actual start time. The Discord link is: https://discord.gg/nc9VXwg

"I can still pay for the event and get in today, right?"

In order to be approved to join the event, we need to make sure you have your ARF filed, that you've paid your yearly dues, that you don't owe back amounts, we need to get you put into our online event documentation and other things.

People who made their payment ahead of time gave us a chance to complete this ahead of time. If you do this today, it means that we need time to do all that work on-the-spot. That takes time, and it requires someone available to do it, but staff are not available 24/7.

So, brief answer (and I apologize if this seems off in tone, I just wanted to be as transparent and quick with an answer as possible):

  • If you paid for the event yesterday or earlier, it will make your check-in process (hopefully) quick and easy.

  • If you paid for the event today, or if you pay for it at some point this weekend, you will be approved as soon as a staff becomes available to do so. If you're doing so at 3 am, I hope it's understood that it may take some time, since people are probably asleep, or eating, or something else. Please rest assured that we are all working as hard as we can to make things happen.

Thanks for your time and patience!
Matt Ash
Cashier/Bookkeeper/etc.

As the Kanar Online Event is June 19-21, I want to give some information regarding it.

  • The event will be $15.

  • The event will go from 5 PM June 19th to 5 PM June 21st.

    • We will work to have the discord channel up a bit beforehand so people will get things set up.

    • We will be working to have the link sent out as soon as possible.

  • During that time, the GM staff will be in and out.

  • The GM team will be working through those that need various modules.  This may be done in numerous ways.  The GM team will be talking with those affected individually.

    • This event will be a stand-alone episode rather than push the overall story ahead.

    • Module resolutions shall happen in (3) forms

      • (A) Players can choose to just forget above going on the module

      • (B) Players can choose a role play only resolution option

      • (C) Players can choose a Table Top like resolution option.  Note, for modules of more than one, all players involved shall have to choose this option unanimously or this option cannot be chosen.

  • We will be doing the “NPC XP” like the last event.  Here are the ways in which to earn XP.  This XP will cap at 12 extra XP (for a 30 XP Cap).

    • Video a new Bardic performance (dance, poetry, dance, etc)

    • Take a picture of yourself in your garb outside.

    • Take a funny picture of yourself in garb outside.

    • Take a picture of yourself in someone else’s garb.

    • Take a picture of your fantasy inspired room with the theme of nature.

    • Post a LARP used recipe (aka a camping recipe) that includes bacon.

    • Tell us about your favorite LARP memory.

    • Tell us a story about how you got your favorite item.

  •  If you have a season pass you will get the 30 XP.

  • You will be able to teach/learn skills.  We ask that you follow the rules for the amount of time needed to learn a skill.

Working Towards an Inclusive Community

Working Towards an Inclusive Community

Hey everyone.

Due to current events between the pandemic and the protests, it is no surprise that the 2020 KANAR season is a difficult one. Not only are we attempting to adapt our game to an online format, but due to the current state of the polarity in our country, we can not ignore the fact that there will be discussions amongst our club members. It should be known that in these discussions, some conversations were brought to light and the BOD have been notified to a few incidents that needed investigation.

We all participate in this community because we share a hobby which we all love. With that said, we should all be diligently working towards a welcoming environment so that our club can thrive in a way that we can all be proud of. Our membership should strive to adapt so that we can work towards a welcoming and diverse environment, rather than meet it with hostility or aversion.

The expectation of being inclusive and welcoming is only half of our responsibility as our members should be diligent in preventing anything that could harm our clubs efforts. Actions that perpetuate discrimination will be met with investigation and consequences from the Board of Directors. If a member of our club is proven to partake in any action or belief system that encourages discrimination or bigotry, they are actively working against our goals and they will be met with consequences from KGE.

Again, we are all here because we all enjoy the same hobby. Our game is better with more people to share it with, and it can only grow if we do the best we can to be inclusive and welcoming to all those who show interest in joining our favorite past time.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Player Rep,
Angelo Aquino

Covid Crafting Update

Hi there kanar crafters!

Some of you may have noticed a lack of withdraws in your personal coin banks for crafting costs and Econ staff wanted to give you an update in regards to that.

As of right now, all the printing has been on hold since the March event. Your tags will still be printed, and crafting is still allowed in conjunction with any approved events, but right now printing and charging for crafting is on hold until we are able to safely meet in person again.

Once our in-person events start back up again we will print all backlogged tags and charge you your crafting costs.

Now, a benefit of this and the reason we chose to do it this way is that all those backlogged tags will have extended expiration dates that will be set to when they get printed instead of when the item was crafted, so you aren't losing months on tags you physically can not use.

If you have any questions about the above info please feel free to email the econ staff at econ@kanar.club

Stay safe and healthy!
Economics staff.

June Event

June Event

This past Wednesday, the Board of Directors along with K1 and KGE staff met up to discuss the Weeklong event, with our Safety staff giving an update on current trends going on around Michigan and Ohio. We discussed a number of potential options for the June event and collectively have decided that an in-person 10-day event is unfortunately not going to happen.

We are, however looking to provide an online event to be held from June 19th - 21st, with improvements on the foundations we built from the last event.

We will be providing more information about this event as it becomes available, and as soon as possible. We thank you for your continued support and patience during this time, and understand that this is not ideal. We want to make sure that the safety of our staff and our membership is continuously upheld.

Coming Soon 2020 May Minutes

Photo by Benjamin Child on Unsplash

Nominations Open May 28th

Hello Kanar members!

We are all struggling in the wake of the pandemic, but even in these troubled times some internal cogs of our club keep turning. With July (and the July Board of Directors meeting) on the horizon, nominations are opening once again.

Three director seats will be open for nominations in this cycle: Treasurer (open again due to no nominations), Secretary, and Odd Year Representative. Nominations for these open seats will begin on next Thursday, May 28th, 2020.

I would like to take a moment to announce that I will not be running for reelection as KGE's Secretary. I am thankful for my time on the Board of Directors and the work done to help Kanar as a whole, but as we grow and evolve in this crucible of history I am consistently finding my personal and work-related responsibilities taking priority over the position's needs. It's time to pass on the torch of administration to someone new, and it's my hope that a member of our talented membership will step up to the task. Thank you to everyone for the help and support that has been given over these last three years.

Members wishing to be nominated for these open positions must meet the following general requirements:

  • Currently hold Veteran Membership status with KGE (meaning you've been playing and paying dues for more than two years)

  • Not have been released from any position with KGE due to disciplinary action in the last five years.

  • Have a working phone number

  • Have a working email address and access to email on a daily basis

  • Have a valid mailing address

  • Have a valid photo identification card recognized by the US government

In addition to these general requirements, the Treasurer and Secretary positions work with a number of forms, files, and people to ensure that Kanar events run smoothly and so that we can continue to make improvements to our game and lands. Experience with accounting and administration practices respectively are highly recommended.

Nominations for the open Board seats can be sent to secretary@kanar.club or the Board as a whole at bod@kanar.club Thank you again, and adventure well, Jacob Smith Corporate Secretary

The Kanar May Online Event

The Kanar May Online Event

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are proud to present The Spring Feast.

On Saturday, May 16th from 3 pm-11 pm Kanar will be holding a trial digital event that will take place on a Discord server that we have created. Below this post we are taking a poll so that you, the players, can decide on the name of the Inn in which we will hold this feast.

The event will cost $5.00, and will be free for those who purchased season passes. If you have yet to pay your yearly dues please do so before this event. Please make sure that you pay for your ticket in advance or you will not be permitted to participate in the event.

If this is your first time attending any KGE events, you will still be required to pay the $5 game fee as we would love for your first free event to be one that can let you experience all that Kanar has to offer.

Tickets for this event are available at www.kanar.club/payment and will be until Friday, May 15th at 11:59 pm. There will be no “at the door” ticket sales.

Just like our normal events, if you pay and attend the event you will be eligible to do a sign-out and you will receive 18 XP. Season pass holders will receive 30 XP. Due to the lack of physical roleplay, we will not be allowing skills to be taught, however, you may purchase skills from town (up to 3 as usual), and learn self-taught skills (such as spell slots).

If you would like to earn the extra 12 XP then during the event you may:

  • Submitting a LARP-able recipe (something you could make out on the field). Worth 6XP

  • Taking a picture of you in your feast kit and submitting it. Worth 6XP

  • Decorating a room in your house to look period, take a picture, and submit. Worth 6XP

  • Record yourself doing an artistic performance (singing, acting, dancing, etc) while in garb. Worth 12 XP

  • Write a substantial article for the Mystic Quill and submit it to the GM staff (due by Sunday 5/24). Worth 12XP

  • Write a substantial one-off plot and submit it to the GM staff (due by Sunday 5/24). Worth 12XP

Please know that while you can do any and all of these things to earn the additional XP, your total XP earned cannot exceed 30XP.

There will be a channel in Discord where you can post your submissions, please make sure you include your actual name so it may be tracked appropriately.  Items submitted can be utilized by KGE for various purposes, however, if you are on the no picture list we will respect your desire and not utilize those pictures.

This event will be in-continuity, and just like our winter Feast, this event will have mechanics turned off.

During the event, players will be able to roleplay either by voice or text in various rooms and channels. We will also be including a text-only room, a place to ask staff questions, and a room for “Parking Lot” talk (Out of Game). In addition, we will be having GM staff and several volunteers playing NPC's throughout the day. We encourage you to interact and roleplay with them!

From 5 pm-7 pm the Nobility will be holding Court.  Nobility will be present to discuss the recent comings and goings of Ilveresh.  Please remain respectful and act appropriately.

If during the event you wish to exchange coin (with PCs or NPCs) you will have the ability to do so by messaging a member of Econ staff.

This Discord event will have moderators to make sure that appropriate behavior is being displayed. We ask that you follow the code of conduct and compose yourself appropriately as failure to do so may get you removed from the event. If during the event you feel as though someone is acting inappropriately you may private message the moderators. We will also have GM staff acting as storyline moderators.

If you want to attend this as your character but you don’t know if you are able to (do to some between event actions or something else prohibitive) please email the GM team at GM@kanar.club to clarify.

We are really excited to experiment with doing digital events and to see if this opportunity will work for KGE in the future. I hope that you join us for this trial run.

Thank you for bearing with us as we attempt to help scratch that LARP itch while still maintaining appropriate safety protocols.

Updates

I am ok with anyone that wants to attend this 2020 May on-line event in character even though they may have a conflict on hold from the April sign-outs.

I will figure it out on a case by case basis as I need to.

Thank you,

~ Tim Schafer - GM 1st

May Event & Contest

May Event & Contest

As the COVID-19 quarantine continues, we will be doing the May event differently.  The Board of Directors is working with the GM Team and some volunteers to put together an online event. Details for this event will be forthcoming in a future post.

While that is going on, we also have a few artistic endeavors happening:

First, if you are a crafter of any sort, I'd like to have pictures of your work.  If you are an illustrator, a self-portrait would be nice.  A picture of weapons, or armor, or some other project, you made for those who prefer tactile crafts.  Maybe you make excellent food, send us a picture of that (and maybe a sample 🙂 ).  I'd like to take these pictures and utilize them on the website to showcase what tangible skills our players bring to our community.  By submitting pictures you understand that you are giving us permission to use the image in our social media outlets.

Second, I have a contest!  A photography contest with the theme: "I’d rather be LARPing." What exactly does that mean? What I want to see are photos of you blending fantasy and reality. You in your garb doing mundane things or beyond. Be creative.  Up to 5 pictures can be submitted per person.

The prize: Two winners will be picked to receive a free commission from some talented artists. Winners will be determined by a vote of the Kanar player base. The time to submit will be from now through June 1. Send pictures to president@kanar.club. Please include a witty caption.

If you have any questions, please direct them to president@Kanar.club.

Thank you for your time,
Erich O.

April Announcements

4.14.20 - Delayed BOD Meeting

Due to the continued pandemic we are moving the BOD meeting back to May 31st. In the case that there are still issues with COVID at that time we will look into alternative ways of having the meeting. Thank you for your time.

4.13.20 - GM comment on PC sign-outs

Please remind the GM staff of conditions that your PC may have. This way your fun does not slip through the cracks. I have PCs that get a special bonus every event and need a GM Temp Tag for it. I have PCs that are inflicted with Lycanthropy and should be dealing with the effects of it. (In cases like this, please keep track how long you have been infected). I have PCs that have special items that they need to bring "on-field" for them to grant the special prize at the end. (These need to be on field in case their "friends" want a shot at stealing them). I have PCs with abilities from GM's past that I keep forgetting are out there. I have PCs that have granted abilities from old GMs that I do not even know about. (Like I have Phoenix wings.) I have PCs with special items that go on-field once in a while that "should" attract NPC attention. (Like a stick that can obliterate almost every undead it simply touches.)
This is also why I have started a GM file on every PC to keep track of things like the above. So by reminding the GM staff by both sign-out and a simple reminder as you go on field means "PLOT" will come seeking you rather than you sitting around bored wishing you were special while literially holding all the cards. Thank you for your personal efforts, your support of the staff and your support of Kanar. ~ Tim Schafer - GM 1st *GM@Kanar.Club*

4.9.20 - Kingdom Stipends

Kingdom Stipends from 2019 will be updated in the Econ Banks as relating to the following (Nobles, Knights, Town Lords, Guild Masters, Houses of Ilveresh, Resurrectionists). In order to qualify, you must have filed out an ARF and paid for your Annual Membership for the 2019 season. If you feel there is an error, please contact the GM staff at GM@Kanar.Club only. Note: I just finished the lists so please allow staff the time to update the system. Inquiries may begin at the next event.

4.7.20 - GM Temp Tags

GM Temp Tags must have the “current GM 1st's initials” on them to be in-game / active. This is so that the staff can identify, document and properly handle legacy tags.

2020 GM Temp Tag system is as follows;

  • White – Item Random (these are random items found on the field – turn in to GM 1st)
  • Yellow – Game Item Certificate
  • Orange – Granted Ability Certificate
  • Green – Raw Material Certificate
  • Pink – Game Item Certificate (to be exchanged by the Econ Staff)
  • Red – Star Metal (to be exchanged by the Econ Staff)

4.5.20 - Minor COVID-19 Update

Players and staff: Please note that we have placed our utilities (trash and port-a-john service) on hold, where they will remain until restrictions related to COVID-19 have been lifted. While nobody should be on-site at this time (since - as much as I'm sure we wish it were otherwise - LARPing is not an essential service), if you find yourself on field, you will need to pack out your own trash. We hope you are all faring well during this crisis, and connecting with other members of our social club as needed. We look forward to seeing you on the field again soon.

4.5.20 - Updated PCH Template

The GM staff has updated the Player Character History Template, if you have not already submitted your character history please do so.

Please, take this time to make sure your PC has a PCH on file with the GM staff. There have been several requests to go places that I have had to turn away without a PCH to verify whether or not your PC should know how to get there.

PCH's can be short and sweet. (3) paragraphs.

  1. Where and when were you born and to who and do you have siblings?
  2. Did you have any skills or any friends, mentors or connections to other PCs growing up? Note: Connections to other PCs is a PCH "Red Flag" so get their approval first.
  3. How did you come to be in Ilveresh?

PCHs can be submitted to *gm@kanar.club*. If you would like confirmation of what I have on file, you can send that request to the same place. Preferred format is a MS Word Docx or note pad as I will be saving these electronically. Preferred Font is Calibri 11.

COVID-19 Update

To the Kanar Gaming Enterprises Community,

As you're very much aware, everyone is experiencing the effects of COVID-19 - from social distancing, to closed restaurants, to discussions about lowering the curve. The Safety Staff (Kiri) and the Board of Directors have been monitoring this situation and discussing options. The conclusion is an obvious one, though not one we hoped for: cancelling the April event.

After discussion with staff members, we have come up with some alternatives for our active members:

  1. If you are up to date on payments, have submitted an ARF, and either attended the March event OR purchased a Season Pass, you will be allowed to submit a free sign-out within the normal window of time for the April event (April 3-13). Please do not submit a sign-out prior to April 3, as our staff are still working to complete March's updates. If you are a Season Pass holder, you will be afforded 30 XP points.  Please make sure to mark it in your sign out.  If you are not a Season Pass holder, you will be given the normal 18.  You will still be allowed to perform between-event actions as normal, including crafting.

  2. The GM team has stated that a Mystic Quill is still being worked on.  If you feel like providing some articles, feel free to submit to quill@kanar.club.

  3. We are in talks with BLD/Adopt-A-Road about ways to earn some volunteer XP while still following safety protocols.

  4. I am hoping that other staff will post ways which players can earn volunteer XP during this break as well.

I've directed our volunteer bookkeeper (Matt) to get in contact with those who were missing items, so that they may partake in this - those emails were sent out a couple of days ago. If you have any thoughts or discussions, please email the appropriate staff members.

I know this is not what we would like. However, safety is our utmost concern and we must do what we must to maintain it. We will evaluate future events within the same time frame (roughly 2 weeks from event) and make decisions then. Thank you all for your continued effort to make this community great. If you have specific questions for me, please email them at president@kanar.club.

Open Safety Staff Position

The Safety Staff is looking for volunteers!

As Kanar’s Safety team, we’re here to make sure players stay safe and healthy. Our primary job is responding to medical issues that arise on the field of play; this includes things like checking cuts and sprains, treatment for dehydration, and getting more seriously injured players proper medical attention. As this is a job done during events, we ask that volunteers make sure they can attend events regularly.

If you have medical experience (especially first responder training) and are interested in joining the Safety team, please email safety@kanar.club or find Kiri (Margaret) at an event.

Thank you for your interest,
Kiri B.

Introducing the Lamplighters' Guild (spots open!)

Introducing the Lamplighters' Guild

Are you a new player interested in helping the community while making some in-character coin in the process?

In collaboration with GM staff, we’re excited to introduce a new in-game group called the Lamplighters’ Guild! Charged with keeping the dark streets of Ilveresh safely lit each night, a character working for the Lamplighters’ Guild will receive payment (in-game coin) for each day worked and a small magic item as a badge of office. Tasks include:

  • Fill and set out torches at the beginning of each event

  • Re-fill torches before dark each night

  • Light torches at nightfall

  • Collect and store torches at the end of each event

If this sounds like something you and your character would be interested in, please email safety@kanar.club or find Kiri (Margaret) at an event for more details!

Nominations for Treasurer can be sent to secretary@kanar.club or the Board as a whole at bod@kanar.club

Thank you,

March Announcements

Saftey: Trails Closed to Motor Vehicles - 3.4.20

In an effort to keep our paths as even and safe for player use as possible, no motor vehicles are allowed past the parking lot at this time. Another announcement will be made when the trails are open to vehicles again.

Saftey: Policy Reminders - 3.4.20

Hello, players! The following are a few safety policies and procedures you may run into at a Kanar event. Keep them in mind to make sure we all have fun and stay as safe as possible!

Non-Combatant Policy: Non-combatants are players who do not engage in combat for health and safety reasons. They can be identified by their red and white sash with a string of yellow lights for nighttime visibility and MAY NOT be physically attacked or touched for any reason. If you wish to attack a non-combatant, point your weapon at them from within 10 feet and state ‘I attack you’, which will drop the non-com to unconsciousness (0 hp). If you wish to become a non-combatant, please contact Safety staff at safety@kanar.club or talk to us at an event.

Holds: If a player needs immediate out-of-character assistance, they can get help by yelling ‘hold’. This will instantly stop combat and Safety staff will come to your location. If you hear someone call a hold, immediately stop, take a knee if it’s safe to do so, and check your weapon padding to make sure your weapon is still safe for use. No one other than Safety staff may move during a hold unless instructed to do so. A hold is ended and combat resumed by the person who called it yelling ‘hold off in 3...2...1… game on!’. Please do not call a hold for someone else unless they physically cannot call it themselves.Firepits: As a fully outdoor game, we have several open fire pits. Combat is not allowed within 10 feet of any pit at any time. Each pit must be tended by at least one player while in use and fires must be completely put out before the pit may be abandoned.

Smoking: Cigarette smoking must be done within 5 feet of a firepit and must be disposed of into said pit or other trash receptacle. Camps with cigarette butts on the ground may be considered ‘trashed’ and may be denied that event’s experience points.

Structure Combat: Players may not engage in melee combat inside a structure at any time. This includes cabins, tents, and other permanent buildings. If you wish to start combat with players inside a structure, please announce that you’re attacking the people inside and ask them to move outside to a safe combat area. Players then move outside the structure, re-set to as close to the correct distances from other players as possible, and combat begins by calling ‘game on in 3...2...1… game on!’.

Eight Hour Bottle to Blade: Kanar does not allow alcohol during events. Players who consume alcohol or marijuana off-site must wait a minimum of eight hours before they may engage in combat. Players found in violation will be removed from the event immediately.

Saftey: A Few Annoucemnts - 3.4.2020

Hello, players! As we’re gearing up for the 2020 season, the Safety team has a few announcements:

Freezing and unfreezing over the winter and this year’s early spring means trails are muddy and uneven. The worst spots are along the trail onto the field of play and on the north end of town in front of Claddagh. Be careful of your footing and try to avoid slippery and uneven spots when possible, especially at night.

In an effort to keep our paths as even and safe for player use as possible, no motor vehicles are allowed past the parking lot at this time. We’ll make another announcement when the trails are open to vehicles again.

There is construction debris next to the dumpsters in the parking lot. This includes boards with nails and other dangerous items. Please don’t move or otherwise touch this area.

Dress for cold, wet weather. Wearing layers of clothing will help keep you insulated and lets you adjust if you get warmer or colder. Wear appropriate footwear (we’ll forgive modern boots for player safety) and bring extra pairs of socks to make sure your feet stay dry.

Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you don’t need water! Make sure you stay hydrated for peak larp performance.

The Safety staff is looking for volunteers! We need general safety staff to respond to on-field emergencies. We’re also excited to announce an in-character opportunity aimed at new players called the Lamplighters’ Guild! These volunteers will help make sure the field of play is safely lit every night. Details on both will be in their own post.

Stay tuned for an overview of Safety policies to keep in mind for the new season!

GM: Saftey & Emails - 3.3.20

SAFETY NOTE: The Ordu towers in NPC land has been taken down. There is a pile of wood that still has nails in it that has not been removed. The GM staff will be working with the BLD staff to get this area operational again soon. Until then, please be advised for your safety, be careful around this site. Thank you.

Please double check your email address when you type it in. A simple mistake here will cause a disturption in chain of communication. Thank you for your help.

Media: Emails - 2.29.20

FYI all of the old .org email addresses are currecntly not working. Please use the new .club addresses, specific addresses can be found on the staff page. Efforts are being made to restore the old .org functionality.

GM: NPC & Tone - 2.28.20

March 2020 Event (Call for NPCs) - There are many players that need resolution to adventures that happened over the winter. I, GM 1st, will be busy most likely all day Friday and a better part of Saturday. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Note: Saturday afternoon there will be a larger group going to the southern borders to take on the orcs there. This happened over the winter but still could use a bunch of NPCs for this.

Thank you all and dress accordingly. Remember, no one should care about your non period warm boots during winter.

Tone! My wife noted that I do not like typing contractions. This makes some of my communications come across stronger than they should when reading dry text. I do not know if this is a habit I picked up while (2) finger typing or what but I hope this provides some insight to those who read my posted information. Thank you.

CBM: Character Updates - 2.26.20

November character updates are complete and we have closed out all 2019 stuff. If you notice any issues or have questions, let us know as soon as possible (through email) so we can try to handle things before the event.

As a reminder, you can still submit signouts for up to 1 year after the event BUT late signouts are not eligible for NPC XP or skill purchases. Submitting your signout on time makes things better for you AND us!

Note that the CBM staff will be switching over to the new cbm@kanar.club account over the next couple days so please direct emails to that account beginning March 1st.

Truck Stop - 2.24.20

Quick announcement that might make a lot of people happy. Not sure if you know this but Milan recently got a Loves Truckstop right at the exit of 23 on Plank rd. It also has a hardee's and fresh deli apparently. The really cool thing though, is that since it's a truck stop they will have showers for all you campers! I also feel like the prices will be cheaper than Seabres down the road and will most likely have a decent selection of snacks and various other needed things you may have forgotten to pack, including rolls of duct tape! -- Cristie

CMB: Reminder - 2.21.20

We appreciate and understand that everyone is excited for the start of the season and is reviewing their character sheets. However, we request that players do NOT email us questions regarding when their update will be done or tell us that certain things regarding their update are wrong until we post that we are done. The more questions we get, the longer it takes us to finish things. If we announce that we are done and all necessary emails are sent, and something still doesn’t seem right on your sheet, then please let us know. Thank you for your patience.

GM Staff: Norsican Question - 2.20.20

Who are my Norsican players? Please send me an email so I can send you some information. gm@kanar.club

All About Season Passes!

This information is currently (1.3.23) out of date and in process of being reviewed and updated to reflect policy changes.

We've had some confusion lately as to what Season Passes are and how they function. As such, even if you feel you have a pretty good understanding of them, we are asking that you read this brief FAQ to make sure everyone is on the same page. Additional questions can be directed to treasurer@kanar.club.

Q: What ARE Season Passes?

A: Season Passes are a payment option that we offer members who would rather pay for an entire season upfront rather than making payments at each individual event. They are a good option if you plan to attend most of the year's events. Most of our Season Pass holders choose to pay for one year at a time, but options for three and five years are also available.

Q: How much are they?

A: Currently, a one-year pass is $180, a three-year pass is $510, and a five-year pass is $800.

Q: What do I get for buying a Season Pass?

A: A Pass covers all of your Event Fees for the entire season in which it is purchased. It provides you with a free ticket to Feast, and allows you to gain attendance XP for events which you are unable to attend.

Q: Can I use my free Feast ticket right away if I purchase a Season Pass in January?

A: The free ticket is for that season's feast - since Kanar's season begins in March, that season's Feast occurs during the next calendar year. So, if you purchase a 2020 Season Pass, you will receive a free ticket to the Feast that occurs at the beginning of 2021.

Q: If I pay Event Fees for every event of the season, does that count as purchasing a Season Pass?

A: NO. As of January 2020, event fees may NOT be retroactively applied to the purchase of a Season Pass. If you would like to purchase a Season Pass, it should be purchased prior to attending your first event of the year.

Q: I've bought a Season Pass. Is there anything else I need to do other than attend the event?

A: A Season Pass only covers your Event Fees for the year. You still need to pay for your Annual Membership Dues ($20), file an Annual Registration Form, sign in at the event, complete signouts, and so forth.

Q: Do I get the entire season's worth of XP upfront?

A: No. You receive XP as normal during the event's signout process.

Q: How do I get attendance XP if I'm not attending an event but have a Season Pass?

A: Fill out a signout form as normal, and make a note for CBM that you did not attend but are a Season Pass holder.

Q: How can I get volunteer/NPC XP if I'm a Season Pass holder not attending an event?

A: You can't. You can only get the base attendance XP. Attending events will always provide more opportunities to gain XP as quickly as possible.
