8.23 - Econ Announcement

Hello players!

Are you interested in giving back to our wonderful community? Do you want to be included on a staff capacity?

Look no further! Our Econ staff is looking to expand our operational numbers. We are looking for four more passionate, driven individuals to join our exceptional team as field staff. The requirements for this position are quite simple, a few hours of your time each game to perform in game banking and basic economics and Veteran player status. Are you a newer player and still want to assist? Well there is a way for that too. We are also looking for non veteran players on a junior status. All that means is that you will be trained to assist the banker until you reach veteran status. Then you will be officially added to the team. If this sounds like an interesting fun opportunity to you, please reach out to Econ at Econ@kanar.club with your interest. We look forward to meeting you.

Huzzah!
Your Econ Team

8.12 - New incentive for Lamplighters Guild

Good afternoon everyone!

The Safety Team and GM Staff are excited to announce an additional incentive for the Lamplighter's Guild. In addition to the 1xp/30 min already provided, we will be offering an in-game monetary benefit of 5 silver per day as well.

Players who wish to assist with lamplighting, are being asked to come find Safety First, Parisa, before starting work. Once completed, they will be provided with a signed and dated writ, that will then be brought to the GM shed, and exchanged for payment.

This is a new system, so bear with us as we work out the kinks. See you all this weekend!

Parisa
Safety 1st

8.11 - Snake Safety

Hello Players,

Due to some sightings of snakes at the July event, the Safety Staff thought it would be helpful to make people aware of what type of snake is being spotted.

This is an Eastern Hognose snake. Even though it looks like a venomous snake or escaped pet, it is native to Michigan and is considered non-venomous. It also primarily eats toads and poses no risk to humans. When threatened, these snakes hood up and hiss, making them look similar to a cobra, or they will flip over and play dead. If one is found, it is preferred that players leave it alone, and notify Safety Staff that one was found and where.

Please do not kill or injure native wildlife, or handle animals you are not familiar with.

Parisa, Safety 1st
Kasey, Safety Staff

July Announcements (7.18)

7.18 - Common Knowledge and an NPC Raffle System

Hello, players! Newly appointed GM1 Kiri here with two pretty nifty announcements:

GM Staff is releasing a common knowledge story review covering the last three years of plot every citizen of Novashan would generally know about. We hope this will make it easier for new players to create characters by having a sense of what’s currently going on in the world. You can find it at the link below.

Common Knowledge for All Players: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ivO4Tl8wvMGpFrVvwODMyWqC1uk58xOuizXRSaThZ28/edit

Secondly we’re trying out a raffle ticket system to incentivise players to put in NPC hours!

Players will get a raffle ticket for every 30 minutes they NPC. This includes NPC hours over the event XP cap! After players receive and sign the tickets they’ve earned, the tickets can either be put into random-chance drawing boxes for a shot at fabulous prizes or given back to GM staff to be stored in a labeled envelope and spent later on items from our prize tiers. The tiers are similar to a ChuckECheese-style arcade: the higher the prize tier, the better the prize, and the more tickets it costs. We’re starting small with a few lovely raffle rewards and the lower-tiered prizes; if everything goes well, GM staff will begin expanding this NPC appreciation system and hopefully make it a long-term fixture. Please be patient with us while we get this thank-you up and running!

Important points:
1 ticket for every 30min of NPC time (for all ticket levels) Two spending options: random drawing boxes or multi-ticket prize tiers
If players want to save their tickets, GM staff will keep them in an envelope with the player’s name on it. This is just starting up, please don’t try to break it before it’s established

If you have questions, please email gm@kanar.club, or find me at the event if you need a quick clarification. Here’s to us, and here’s to our future, and here’s to a weekend with daytime temperatures below boiling!

Kiri, GM1

7.17 - From the Desk of CBM1st

Hello everyone. I hope you all are doing well and having a great morning.

Lately we have been receiving a lot of emails regarding department XP and donation xp and the fact that some of you have not received your xp, etc. That being said, I felt it might be useful to explain the process to the membership to better prepare everyone moving forward.

When a member submits for bonus xp, be it from money donations or otherwise, that submission MUST be approved by a manager or an appointed person from that department. We as the CBM cannot put it on your sheet until it has been approved.

Once it has been approved, the CBM team will add this bonus xp to your sheet during the NEXT character sheet update cycle. This is after an event and the 8 day time limit has passed.

When the CBM team starts performing sheet updates, we do the bonus XP first in order to be sure we have all of your xp at the time of the sheet updates. We only do this ONCE. If the department manager has not approved the XP by the start of each sheet update cycle, it will likely not make it to your sheet this time around. Same goes for if the department manager were to approve it during or after the updates have been completed.

The CBM team knows how important your XP is to you and we want you to have what is due, meanwhile its important to understand that if your xp is not on your sheet, it's likely because it either has not been approved yet or it was approved after sheet updates were completed. Rest assured it will eventually get there!

I hope this helps everyone to better understand the process and to explain the delays.
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you
Glen “Rath” Adkins
CBM1st

6.09 - Weeklong Schedule and Hype

Get ready everyone! The height of summer is upon us, and that means far more than just the Summer Solstice.

As the heat churns through the thick swampy air, elves and orcs come out of the cracks and woodwork to rage against each other in a tradition as old as their bloodlines. The orcs are out in force this year, promising to host a grand festival with games and competitions against the rival elves before the night of Agelong. Not only are the orcs hosting The Great Hunt, but they say they’ll lend their roaming army of tribal mercenaries against Narrdmyr. That is, if the two groups show great valor during the hunt.

The elves and orcs aren't the only ones anticipating the Summer Solstice. The Fae courts are buzzing with nervous gossip over this summer's power struggle, and politics are expected to spike in the coming days. Will the Fae Wilds accept help from outsiders? Will the Seasonal Courts be stable after the height of the year?

Meanwhile, Narrdmyr is being edged away from the border with a decisive push by the Novashani baronies. Will their success continue, or does Nardmyrr have something up their sleeve? All this and more at Kanar’s Weeklong event!

6.07 - Announcement: Gamemaster Staff Procedure Update to Conversations During Game

KGE Membership,

The Game Master Staff (GM) has updated its best practices to address the increased time demands members are putting on GM staff during events related to issues not directly involving the story being run for the event. We have witnessed increased player requests for long conversations regarding macro-game ideology, individual character development, and story disagreements during events. This pulls our staff away from their primary duty of running amazing stories at live events and creates a situation where important conversations are taking place without any documentation. We understand and respect how important this game is to the membership and want to be able to give you our full attention when you bring us your concerns and/or ideas.

Thus, the GM Staff will be implementing the following guidelines starting at the June 2024 event.

  1. All non-personal conversations with GM Staff need to take place at the GM Shed. This building, serves as our office during live events, and as such, we cannot focus on running the game if we are having conversations with the membership in the parking lot or away from this area. If you arrive at the GM Shed and the staff member you wish to speak to is not there, a note will be taken for your request for a conversation and relayed to that staff member when they arrive. The GM Shed is the designated space for non-personal conversations, ensuring that our staff can efficiently manage their time and responsibilities.

  2. All conversations that will take more than ten minutes, and are not related to immediate safety concerns, are requested to be sent to the GM email “Gm@kanar.club” to be addressed after the event. Our members have made it clear that they want more stories to run during live events, and it is not sustainable to achieve this goal when we are constantly being pulled away for 1on1 conversations that do not address the story at hand. This change is to ensure that our staff can focus on running the game during the event and then address these important conversations in a more structured and efficient manner after the event.

  3. Notes may be taken by the GM Staff during conversations. At the end of the conversation, both the GM Staff and the player(s) involved will sign off on the document to ensure its accuracy. This provides a refresher for GM Staff after the event and a paper trail to ensure that all parties are on the same page.

We understand that this is a more formalized process than what has been in place in the past. We assure you that these changes will allow us to put our full attention on running the best stories we can at the live events that people have paid for with their hard-earned money. We respect that you choose to spend your time in Ilveresh and want to deliver the best experience possible.

With thanks,

The Gamemaster Staff

6.07 - From the Desk of CBM 1st

Hello everyone!
I hope you are all doing well and getting excited for the upcoming weeklong event that is just around the corner!

I am writing to let the membership know that in keeping with the long standing weeklong event tradition, the limit for the number of skills you can learn during an event will be increased to 8 skills for this event!!

Also, after careful consideration, the GSOM has decided to remove the limit on the number of lessons you can teach for this event as well!

We believe this will create more roleplay situations and give more opportunities for players to create some of their own fun during the long event!

That being said, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send us an email at cbm@kanar.club
See you all at the event!

6.05 - From the Treasurer by Emergency Vote of the BOD

Fellow Club Members,

KGE is in a good financial position at this midway point of the year and I felt it was in the best interest of the social club to amend Weeklong pricing for 2024.

I called for an emergency meeting and 4 of 5 Board of Directors met on the evening of 06.05.2024 and voted 4-0-0 to suspend standard Weeklong pricing as outlined in K1G-001 K1 SOP 24.04, and institute regular event pricing for the 10-day event but with standard weeklong benefits.

Season Pass Holders will be given 10 in-game tickets for an in-game activity. Please excuse the vagueness as I don't want to ruin the fun of the experience.

Weeklong Event Tickets are available now!

5.15 - Tick Season

Hello Players!

As we head into our May event, please be mindful that this year's tick season is going to be extremely bad!

Check yourself often and wear bug repellant! Ticks remain low to the ground in tall grass / brush, so spraying shoes & pants with DEET can be helpful for keeping them off. Adult ticks are usually pretty easy to spot, but younger ticks are much smaller than might be expected.

An imbedded tick needs to be removed carefully, as to not leave any part of the tick behind. Please ask for assistance if needed.

Stay safe, BLD Team

5.14 - Last Day for Frest Start Survey

5.08 - Playmaster and Safety announcement

Dear club membership we are aware that fighting can get intense sometimes. We do have to remind you of several things that are not OK.

You cannot cross check with a spear. This is highly unsafe and not the proper use of this weapon.

You may also not remove a hand from a two handed spear to give yourself more range for a strike. 2 handed weapons require the use of 2 hands at all times.

These unsafe practices cannot be allowed to continue as it puts our membership at risk.

Thank you for your understanding.

The Play Master Team and The Safety Team

5.06 - Reminder Frest Start Survey

4.8 - BLD Work Days

Hello Club Members!

BLD is happy to announce 2 planned work days (so far) for this year - Saturday 6/8 & Saturday 10/12. We wanted to give as much notice as possible for these particular dates so people can plan ahead. The projects to be completed will be decided as we get closer. Because of the time of year, the hours for the work days will be slightly different from each other. June's work day will be 12pm to 6pm and October's will be 11am to 5pm.

Additionally, we will also have impromptu events, with less notice, as weather & time allows for. And don't forget BLD has a list of tasks, if you're looking to help on your own time! You can email us for ideas, but typical things that always need to be done are clearing leaves, twigs, & tree limbs from trails, splitting / stacking wood, disposing of trash / debris, cleaning out community fire pits, or helping to manage the vegetation overgrowth. You can also earn XP by helping others with their site upkeep, but please communicate directly with site owners if assistance is needed before doing any work.

As a reminder, BLD XP is awarded 1 XP per 30 minutes worked or 1 XP per $2.00 contribution.

The more volunteers we can get, the more progress we can make on this list. We hope to see you out there!
BLD Team

4.1 - Announcement from the GM/Econ

Hello players!

At this past event, Econ staff discovered silver coins in circulation that had been painted gold. While some of our gold coins are anodized, it was quite obvious this was paint as the color was different and it was flaking, not rubbing off like anodizing would. It goes without saying that painting coins is against the rules and spirit of the game. If you have any suspicious coins in your possession, please turn them in to Econ at the next available event. If another player passes one of these coins off to you as gold, please report it to the GM staff. Thank you. Any coins turned in will be replaced with the appropriate currency.

Proposals to update multiple SOP documents were approved. Specifically:
K1G-001 K1 SOP 23.02 to bring the CBM title in line with the other positions of the same level. Additionally a grammar correction, and rephrasing of sections to be gender neutral.

1.1-KGE-RO 23.10 to change verbiage to be gender neutral and fix an old acronym to be updated.

1.3-KGE-SPS 23.01 to change verbiage and update an old acronym.

K1G-002 POL 001-007 23.02 to change verbiage and update an old acronym.

K1-POL-002 now reads:
The use of tags in Kanar is vital to the game play. It is the intent of this policy to set up a process that shall enforce the use of tags without slowing the pace of the game as a whole. Therefore, the Kanar Game Staff Operations Managers (KGSOM) have set forth this statement of policy to be followed by all members of K1.
In order for your Player Character (PC) to use or carry any item requiring a tag, you must have both a physical representation (Phys Rep) and an item tag. Crafting Materials are an exemption to this policy; they do not require you to have a physical representation. However, crafting tags may be stolen.
If the Phys Rep is lost or taken, and there is no item tag to be found on you, then the item is still considered lost / stolen by a thief.
Items that a PC or Non-Player Character (NPC) could not physically carry require the use of a "Deed of Ownership". A deed of ownership is a piece of parchment with the word deed written on it, what it is a deed of, and the tag number it is associated with. Deeds of Ownership are stealable.
Armor worn by a PC cannot be stolen unless physically removed. You may only have armor tags on you that you have physical representations for.
Temporary Tags that are issued during the current event are stealable without a physical representation present. If a tag is lost and there is no Phys Rep, the item is lost forever. If a PC still has their Phys Rep, but the tag is lost, they may get the tag back.

K1G-001 K1 SOP 23.02 that allows the splitting of the rulebook into multiple documents. The Kanar Rulebook will be divided into the following book types: The Core Rulebook and Supplementary Rulebook Codex(s).
The Core Rulebook: This document will contain the core mechanical aspects of the game, which are deemed to be integral to the operation of the standard aspects of the game. Supplementary Rulebook Codex(s): These documents will supplement the Core Rulebook; they are intended to allow for more in-depth game play without bloating the Core Rulebook and its core mechanics.

Subclasses approved.

3.24 - Seasonal Reminder of the Personal Safety Policy

Hello, players! Safety 1st Kiri here. I've had a few questions this event about what to do if roleplay on field gets a little intense and causes some worry about whether the feelings are in character or out. Below is KGE policy #18, which covers personal safety while at our games. Please make sure you're especially familiar with the process for how to check on other players during gameplay. It's a long post, but important to know. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read through!

Personal Safety

Personal safety is important to Kanar Gaming Enterprises, Inc. We hope members make informed decisions before playing the game. Therefore, the KGE Board of Directors has set forth this statement of policy to be followed by all members of KGE.

  1. KGE sponsored games, like K1, use padded facsimiles of melee and ranged weapons in simulated combat.

  2. KGE recommends that every player wear an athletic supporter, padded gloves, and safety goggles.

  3. Pregnant members may attend KGE events as non-combatants.

  4. During any sponsored game a participating member may break character, putting their hand over their head and speaking out-of-game, to let other participants know that they are not feeling real-world safe in the situation. If needed, a hold may be called. Participants should assess their gameplay, consider whether they are roleplaying in line with the code of conduct, and either find a way to safely re-engage in gameplay or disengage from the situation entirely. Any participant can choose to walk away from any situation they feel is unsafe.

This guideline should be followed when handling unsafe situations:

If a participant communicates that they feel unsafe and is able to communicate what is making them feel unsafe, the participants involved are encouraged to have a short discussion on how the situation can be changed to resolve the issue.

  • If a solution can be reached, players are encouraged to re-engage in gameplay with changes made.
  • If a solution can not be reached or the changes do not remedy the situation, the unsafe participant is encouraged to disengage from the situation and seek out a member of staff as needed.

If a participant communicates that they feel unsafe and is not able to communicate what is making them unsafe:

  • Without a communicated way to resolve the issue, it is highly recommended that the participant disengage from the situation and seek out a member of staff as needed.

If a participant is concerned that another participant is feeling unsafe or unwell, they are encouraged to put their hand on their head and briefly check in. We recommend the following methods:

  • Verbally, by quietly asking if everything is 'mundanely okay' and getting a verbal response from the other participants. This should not interrupt surrounding gameplay unless a hold needs to be called.
  • Nonverbally, by giving a thumbs up and receiving either a thumbs up for safe or thumbs down for unsafe.

If all participants are safe, gameplay should continue. If they are not, participants should follow the resolution guide listed above.

If a participant is leaving the event due to not feeling real-world safe, a member of the Safety Response Team must be informed of the issue before the participant leaves the property so an investigation can begin. The Safety Response Team member must report the situation to Safety 1st for further investigation. If needed, see the guideline for extreme situations below.

In case of extremely unsafe situations, the following procedure should be followed:

  • A hold should be called by the participant that does not feel safe.
  • A member of the Safety Response Team must escort the unsafe-feeling participant to an out-of-game area.
  • If a member of the Safety Response Team is not present, the participant who called the hold should designate someone to escort them to an out-of-game area and stay with them until a member of the Response Team arrives.
  • The Response Team member or designated escort and unsafe participant will walk off the field of play with a hand over their head. The escorting party will designate someone to call off the hold for those not involved with the safety issue once they are fully clear of the situation.
  • A Response Team member will remain with the participant at all times until the situation is resolved or the participant leaves KGE property.
  • A member of Play Master, Game Master, and Safety Staffs are required to address the situation with the other participants involved, investigate whether rules or policies have been broken in the situation, and deliver warnings and removal from gameplay as warranted. This is to be done in an out-of-game area which may not be the same area where the unsafe-feeling participant and Response Team member have gone.
  • If the participants involved are removed from the event, a member of the Board of Directors must be contacted to escort the removed participants from the field of play as per procedure.
  • If the situation is investigated by a member of staff who is not the head of their department, their department head must be notified of updates as soon as possible.
  • Disciplinary actions must be documented with the Safety department.
  • If the investigation determines that action beyond the scope of the GM, PM, and Safety staff is required, a Judicial Review Board Request should be submitted by the unsafe-feeling participant. The Board of Directors will review the investigation findings and actions suggested by the investigating party and determine whether removal from a staff position, suspension, or removal from KGE is warranted via the Judicial Review process.

Thank you for reading to the end! If you have any questions about any of this, please talk to me on field or send an email to safety@kanar.club.

-Kiri, Safety 1st

3.22 - Start of 3/22/2024 Game pushed back to 7:00 pm

Good afternoon, KGE Membership:

While we are all excited to start the 2024 Kanar Season, The Game Master Staff, Safety Staff, and Building & Land Department have all met and agreed to push the start of today’s event back to 7:00 pm due to inclement weather and poor road conditions. Players can still access the property before 7:00 pm, but “Game On” will not start until that time. This is in hopes that members and staff have extra time to travel to the property safely.

We do not make this decision lightly as we respect our membership's commitment to the game and the playtime you dedicate to your characters.

With thanks,
The Game Master Staff, Safety Staff, and Building & Land Department

Welcome to the last event of the year we hope to see you there!

11.14 - BLD Tree Work Day

Hello Club Members!

We have several large trees throughout the property that need to be taken down, cut, and stacked. We are having a professional drop the largest ones leading up to Sat 12/2. There is not a ton of daylight to work with this time of year, so we need all the help we can get! Some loppers will be available for small limbing work.

BLD will be offering double XP for the work day(s) = 4 XP per hour worked!

8.16 - From The Game Masters Staff For The August 2023 Festival

With the shadows of war fully upon Novashan, the knights meet in the traditional festival grounds of Illvaresh, will they pull together to face the threat of the Narrdmyrian king William or will they fracture under the pressure?

Duke Kieran D`Kalin long absent from the festival must make a decision of whether to support the south of Novashan against the deceitful King William or listen to the council of the Northern Elves of Ashan?

Tensions rise on the border of Wildemere, will Novashon retain its long-held territory?

All the while the great swamp stirs from its slumber, will a forgotten threat rear its head!

[The Knights Conclave will be held this coming Saturday. There will be a field swap on Sunday to help determine how the war is going]

We hope to see all who can make it this weekend, let's make it a good event!

3.17 - From the BLD: Land Cleaning

Today was a great day for Illveresh. The BLD, with financial support from the BOD, reclaimed some of our property. We brought in CP Quality Cleaning to clear ground cover, remove some small trees, and to grind up debris. This doubled the size of the field of honor, opened up a whole area of land across the trail from the Field of Honor that will soon become our Illveresh Marketplace, doubled the size of Tent City, and made the area around the new GM shed look like a park.

In the name of transparency, I will note that this project cost $2000.00 out of the 2023 BLD budget.

I hope that you take a moment to look at some of the photos.

With thanks,

12.27 - Department Contributions

There are 4 days left to get in a "cash" contribution for the 2022 season. We look forward to 2023! https://kanar.club/checkout/donate?donatePageId=5e1c91098e1bfb452df1d470

12.26 - Possible BLD Workday

I hope that everyone had a relaxing and merry holiday. This time of year I often reflect on how blessed we are to have the community that we have.

Between now and March we need to cut and split between 6 to 8 face cords of firewood to start drying out. We maybe have one cord left from last year that will get burned throughout the winter months as people utilize the property.

Next Saturday is looking like no rain and in the 50s. Would anyone be interested in hauling some firewood? I’ll plan an official day if we get enough interest.

September Announcements (8.26)

9.15 - Player Shout Out

Attention Players

If you were involved with eating the “Exotic Oranges” that were handed out last festival (August) please email the GM Staff at gm@kanar.club before coming to field this Friday. Thank you so much and we’ll see you soon.

9.14 - Module Update from the GM

Hey folks! The GM staff will be playtesting some new processes during the next event and we wanted to give you all a heads up. As modules have become increasingly popular, last event highlighted several issues with the process. Too many modules combined with a lot of waiting around for people as well as a lack of NPCs made things less than ideal, and at one point there were not enough PCs on the field for us to safely run NPC encounters. To help keep things on schedule, we are going to try something different.

For the September event, the GM staff will have time slots specifically assigned for modules. These time slots are tentatively 8pm Friday night, 1pm and 4pm on Saturday, and 12 noon on Sunday. If you have a module you are supposed to go on, it will be in one of these time slots. We have also placed three new clocks on the field to help players keep track of the time without having to resort to electronic devices. These new clocks are located on the front of the GM shed, the front of the safety shed in the center of town, and on the side of the Vanari camp in new town.

Additionally, we have installed a cast iron bell atop the sign post near the crossroads entering the field. GM staff will ring this bell ten times ten minutes prior to the start of a module. This will give players time to finish up any roleplaying they are currently engaged in and to report to the GM shed for their module. Players that are interested in NPCing can also report to the GM shed at this time. After ten minutes, the module will begin so if players are late, they will either miss the module or have to be worked into it through storytelling.

The GM staff will also be using a chalk board to keep track of module schedules and rosters, so players can come sign up for NPC spots or check module times in advance. It is our hope that this process will help the game run smoother as well as allowing GM staff more time to focus on field encounters.

As a final note, effective this last event and moving forward, all players that complete an event sign out will have an additional 5sp added to their player banks. This is to represent money that all players should be able to scrape up in a month doing odds and ends outside of crafting. Hopefully this little bit of silver can help players enjoy their events a little bit more.

If you have any questions regarding any of these changes, please reach out to us or come see us at the GM shed this weekend. PLEASE keep in mind that this is all a playtest and subject to change. We hope to see you all in Ilveresh this weekend!

Jerimy H., GM 1st

9.14 - NPCs for Saturday of the September event

9.11 - Monthly Econ Update

Hello players,

It's that time already for the monthly update from Econ. The Econ team has finished this month's submissions for the tag turn in. We are requesting at this time that all players who are attending the September Event with LAST names starting with V, W, X, Y and Z, to please prepare for turn in. We are also requesting for players that missed their turn in month to turn in their tags at THIS event as well. October 2022 is THE CUT OFF for current players to turn in, this excludes the groups that have already been made aware of their turn in time for the month of November. Please make arrangements to get your tags turned in. Please remember if you missed your month and you've attended an event after your designated turn in and you do not turn in your tags this season, they will be invalid and cannot be used next season.

Please take photos of your tags prior to turn in for your records. You may turn in your tags at anytime the Econ is on duty and may use your photos as proof of your tags during game time to speed up the process of turn in.

We are also requesting to players who have missed their tag turn in date to please turn them in at the next event attended excluding RPO events. We are trying to avoid a mass build up of tags turned in at the end of the season. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in the matter.

We would also like to remind the player base to please use the item creation form to submit their pink temporary tags with their sign outs at the end of the events.

Temporary tags do have an expiration date for submission written on them for the following month. We are encouraging players to please be mindful of that and submit them in a timely fashion. We do understand this is a new practice that will take some transition time which we will be accommodating for this season.

Here is the link to the item creation form found on the Kanar website. Please reach out to Econ at econ@kanar.club for further questions and inquiries.

We look forward to seeing you all in Ilveresh.

Kind Regards, The Econ Team

As always, if you find something of concern or issue or you didn't get an update, Please check the "Staff Comments" tab on your sheet for possible information, or you can reach out to us at cbm@kanar.club and I am sure we can work together to get it taken care of!

See you there!

8.28 - Econ Reminder

Hello players,

Econ here just wanting to remind everyone that you are allowed to craft and do another action in your character sign outs. You don't need to submit another sign out, simply click on the item creation form below the character sign out.

You can craft for the Kingdom and make coin, or you can craft items with your crafting skills. The cut off for item submissions is tomorrow Monday August 29th at midnight. Don't forget to get them in as soon as you can.

A simple reminder to also put in your submissions for temp tag replacements through this form. There are expiration dates on them and though we are understanding, we are encouraging you all to be mindful of them. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to econ@kanar.club as our official means of communication.

Thank you, Your Econ Team

8.27 - Family Day Success!

I want to say thank you to all of the members that took the time, spent the money, and put in the effort needed to make Family Day possible. We wouldn't have been able to do it without every one of you. The children looked like they had a wonderful time fighting the bad guys, crafting their heraldry, and went nuts for the obstacle course I know my son did. All of you are truly amazing.

P.S. Don't forget to do your paperwork for your exp!

P.S.S. You guys are awesome!

Daniel Miller, QM1

8.28 - The Knights Conclave

A Call to the Chivalry of Novashan: Knights, Armigers, Squires, and Armsmen:

It is an honor to announce the annual Knights Conclave on October the 1st, 1022 at One O'Clock to Six O'Clock in the evening, in the town of Ilveresh in the County of Bellanmo.

The Knights Conclave will be open to the public of Ilveresh for the duration of the discussion, followed by a small meal for the chivalry and guests. If you wish to donate time or monetary resources, please contact Squire Korra, Squire Adawulf, or Squire Bell. We look forward to your attendance.

8.26 - Autumn Harvest Festival

Good Evening Ilveresh,

As Autumn falls upon us, Seneschal Rima SIlverleaf of Brisbane has decided to celebrate the changing of the seasons with a Harvest Festival on the saturday of the September moon. The fete will begin in the midday and allow for snacking, music and games to extend through the evening, focusing in the town center.

One of these prestigious seasonal games come from a long tradition of the Seneschal’s heritage, which will be a ‘hunt’ in which we will be looking for volunteers to be the ‘hunted’ as a celebrational event. There will be no life credits taken or life spells needed; so no one need to worry about volunteering. Prizes will be given at the end of the hunt to those who volunteer. Please just give us your name and we will happily add it to the list.

If you enjoy baking or cooking, anything seasonal will be welcome and if we can get a variety of baked goods, we can have a baking contest. Please see the feast food thread in the kanar fb group to offer help and additions.

Anyone NPCing will also have special games to play and prizes to win.

-Jenna F. (TM)

8.26 - GM: Module Logistics Help

The GM staff is working hard to improve the logistics surrounding modules, and we need your help! Last event saw several modules running throughout Friday and Saturday, and at several points throughout the event we had more people on modules than we had on the field. This is not ideal, as the goal is to bring more things to the field for general enjoyment.

Many of the factors contributing to the module bottlenecks were timing and NPC availability. It is very difficult to start a module on time when we have stragglers running late, and it can be hard to retain NPCs for modules when people are standing around for a half hour or more waiting for it to start. So, to combat this issue, we have need of a few player donations for items on this wish list.

First off, the GM shed needs some additional items to maximize staff efficiency. Lights, lanterns, and green tape are needed.

Second, we have received a few complaints about cell phones being visible during the event. Often times, this is likely due to people checking the time. We have a nice outdoor clock on the list, and we could use a couple of them to put around the field and at the GM shed. This should help reduce the need for mundane cell phone use as well as help player keep to module schedules.

Third, there’s a cast iron bell on the list. It’s a little expensive, but the GM staff plans to use it to signal to players when a module is about to begin. With the combination of clocks displayed on the field and a bell ringing ten minutes before a module, we are hoping to improve the flow of modules and reduce the impact they have on the field when they occur.

For players that might not be aware, Kanar has a donation policy that allows a player to donate items to staff and get award XP, up to 100 per year at a rate of 1xp per $2. For these items, the GM staff is offering a 1xp per dollar rate if we receive them before the September event. For the bell we will offer 100 xp and 100 silver. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at GM@kanar.club.

8.22 - QM Projects and Ideas

8.17 - Safety Wishlist Updated

Hello, all! Friendly neighborhood Safety 1st Kiri here with a lighting update!

We ran into a few issues last month with the lighting situation, and we're working on a few short and long term fixes:

For the short term, we need to replace a number of torch canisters which began leaking last event and have a reserve for any which may start failing this season. We're offering 1xp per $1, including shipping if you send it through our Amazon wishlist. Please bring your receipt to the event or email it to safety@kanar.club.

For the long term, we're looking into solar lighting options for town and the trails. Not only will this prevent issues with kerosene getting on anyone's garb, but it also tackles the issue of having open flame lighting at hair and clothing level and torches being knocked over or backed into during combat. We've got a few torches to test for brightness before we choose one type, tall shepherd's hooks to hang them from, and a few other items we need. We're offering 1xp per $2, including shipping.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please email me at safety@kanar.club. See you all out there!

4.20 Tag Turn-In and Reprint

Starting this event on Sunday, the gm and Econ team would like players with last names starting with a-c to please turn in their tags so that we may work them into our new process of creating tags. These tags will be archived , some will be renamed to fit the more standard names in our database . Game Master staff will also be auditing tags for Game Master Notation and filing. This is a large scale project and everyone’s cooperation would be greatly appreciated . At the end of this gaming season , tags that were printed previous will no longer be honored . Thank you all for your patience , help and consideration in this large adjustment to our games filing system etc.

Steve Jones, GM1

4.17 New Tag Use Procedure

We have a new procedural way to “use” a consumable tag. Starting this event, if you use a consumable tag such as a potion, scroll, alchemy, poison etc, players will tear the tag in half. players will then hand the other half of the tag to the player in which the spell was cast on. For offensively used consumables , you will tear the tag and hand the other half to the theme marshal at your earliest but timely convenience. Players should monitor each other and make sure that if a consumable is used on you or by you that this procedure is followed.

Steve Jones, GM1

4.4 NPC Assistance

Hello players! I wanted to share with you a troublesome report that was brought to staff attention. We had 118 signouts for March. 107 were physically at the event. Only 48 people did any NPC time at all, including TM/GM staff playing NPCs for their own encounters. The average was 1.8 hours. Our game can’t function if we don’t have people willing to assist . I know we are all there to have fun and I know we are all rusty , but let’s see if we can get those numbers increased next month.

Steve Jones, GM1

3.28 Upcoming Role Play Only Event

We are about a month away from our first Role Play Only Event (ROPE) (Friday 4/29), with a standard event taking place the weekend before (Friday 4/22). Since this is a new event type, I wanted to touch on the most important things / biggest changes for these events, but the best understanding will come from reading the full policy: K1 POL 008.

Please have a government issued ID ready to prove you are over the age of 21. Anyone who cannot provide proof will not be allowed to consume alcohol on KGE property.

Please be respectful and in control of your consumption. Tent City is open and available for out-of-game / modern tent camping. Please be safe and stay the night on the lands.

Safety is looking for volunteers for Sober Safety Staff Members during the RPOE. Please email Safety for more information, at safety@kanar.club.

New players who have not attended a regular event and do not have a character on file with CBM cannot attend RPOE until they have done so.

RPOE tickets are $15 and are included in Tier 2 season passes (not Tier 1). Payment is due by Thursday evening - prepay only.

Combat mechanics / plot / crafting are off / not allowed. Already held coin / tags can be exchanged, but game staff are not on duty and you won't be able to obtain new items or plot information from them. Make sure to stock up during the regular event, the weekend prior!

Skills can be taught and learned, but only in accrued time. They do not become usable skills until they're on your character sheet, which will be after the following regular event's sign-out is completed.

RPOE have unique character sign-out rules, but utilize the same sign-out form. Within the form's "Event Date" section, select "Role Play Only Events". The deadline is the Wednesday following the RPOE.

With a new event type comes unpredictable things, and sometimes the idea of something is not the same as the execution. We ask for patience as staff and players alike become familiar with things, but of course, please communicate with staff via email if you have any questions / concerns before or after the event. Above all, please be respectful of your fellow players and the property we are so fortunate to have at our disposal.

We can't wait to see you out there!

Karigan

3.24 New Economics Marshall Announced

The Game Master staff would like to thank and congratulate Rebecca Coleman as our new Economics Marshal! We would also like to thank our members for their anticipated patience and cooperation through the next few weeks as we transition. If you would like to assist with the economics department, please message econ@kanar.club.

Thank you!

Winter Announcements (3.12)

3.12 - Updates to Covid-19 Guidelines

Hello, everyone! Friendly neighborhood Safety 1st here with a quick update to Kanar's Covid-19 event guidelines for the 2022 season.

The State of Michigan has determined that we are entering the recovery phase of the Covid-19 epidemic, which includes updates to masking requirements and guidelines. According to the CDC website, Monroe and Washtenaw counties are both currently considered medium-risk counties and are surrounded by low-risk counties. Following these updates, we are amending KGE's Covid-19 response to the following:

  • Proof of vaccination or negative Covid-19 test are still required to attend KGE events.
  • Masks are no longer required at any time, including for combat NPCs and unvaccinated players. All players are encouraged to mask to their comfort level.
  • Use of KGE's stock costumes are permitted. The use of KGE's shared stock makeup is still considered high-risk for accidental transmission and will not be permitted until Monroe is considered a low-risk county. Players are welcome to bring their own makeup to use for NPCs, but are not permitted to share makeup with other players at this time.
  • Players with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 are not permitted until five days after they are symptom-free and/or test negative for the virus.
  • KGE reserves the right to remove any player under serious suspicion of illness (e.g. excessive/regular fits of coughing, fever, vomiting, etc.).
  • KGE reserves the right to update these rulings as the State and CDC update their guidance and to reinstate masking requirements if the CDC upgrades Monroe to a high-risk county.

If you have any questions, please email me at safety@kanar.club. I hope to see you all this weekend!

Kiri, Safety 1st

3.7 - Payments Reminder

As the March event quickly approaches I wanted to remind everyone that our 2022 season started January 1st, which means the 2022 annual membership dues and 2022 annual registration forms (ARF) need to be paid and signed for the year in order to participate. Without both of these your membership is not considered in good standing / valid. If you're not sure if you have everything set up, feel free to email treasurer@kanar.club and I'm happy to confirm.

Friday March 18th is our first field event of the season. Tickets for the event (and season passes) have been available on the website for several months now. It is, of course, most helpful for check-in if you purchase your tickets several days prior to the event.

Please review our covid policy here

For new players, welcome! The above applies to you as well, but your first standard event is free. The Role Play events are not available to be your first event, so please carefully check the calendar so there isn't a mix up, and feel free to email staff with any questions. Check out this page for more info.

All of us on staff have been saying how excited we are to see everyone and kick off the year. We hope you had a relaxing winter and can't wait for the 18th!

Karigan KGE Treasurer

3.7 - BLD Workday Thank you

I want to send out a huge thank you to everyone who was able to come out to our first BLD workday of the season.

We were able to clear so much trash from the property and start the major project of clearing a lot for our new GSOM Game Operations Area.

Please do not forget to fill out this form so I can get you your well-earned XP

We will be posting more information about future BLD workdays soon.

3.2 - Change to Bonus XP Policy

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone had a great winter break and all is well! Here we are, just weeks away from the opening event for the 2022 Kanar Gaming Season! Your CBM team is looking forward to seeing everyone and we can't wait to get out there get some RP on! I am sure it’s going to be a great season!

We have been working on a few new changes over the break, one of which is the “Between Event Bonus XP” policy. After listening to player feedback and crunching some numbers, it was determined that changes were needed.

We think these changes will benefit the club and create more incentive for members to get engaged and give more back to this beloved club. We ask that you please take a moment to look at the attached document to learn more about these changes. And as always, your CBM team is here to help with any questions or concerns.

Also, keep an eye out for the upcoming “Civic” point program that will be introduced later in the season to allow members to really shine for all the time they donate to the club each year.

Be sure to take a moment to look over your character sheet to make sure everything is as it should be and of course send us an email with any questions or issues at cbm@kanar.club. This way we can get you all taken care of prior to the event.

All of that aside, have a great rest of the week and we will see you all on-field!

Your CBM Team

3.2 - BLD Work Day: Season Opener Property Cleanup

Good morning members,

It looks like the weather this Saturday is going to be exceptionally nice for the time of year. This seems like a prime opportunity for the membership to get out and clean up their sites and KGE common areas before the 2022 season opener.

BLD Staff will be on site to direct volunteers if they do not have a personal site to work on or have extra time.

Please post in the comments if you plan to be out. If enough people show interest the BLD 1st will splurge for some hamburgers and hotdogs for everyone for lunch.

Please bring your own water / beverages and any snacks you might need to work through the day. If you own personal work gloves we ask that you bring those as well.

Yours in volunteerism,

Marcus Schwimmer, BLD 1st

3.1 - LARP Items Yard Sale

Hear ye, hear ye!

Springtime brings the return to Festivals in Ilveresh. Let us shed our old attire and breathe life into something new to us!

Bring your federals and negotiation skills on Saturday 3/19/2022. 12pm – 4pm on field, members are welcome to hawk their old garb and accessories for sale or trade, be that in-game (IG) coin or out-of-game (OOG) monies. Choose to set up your wares in Town Center or at your own site, but players must provide their own means of sale; tables, decorum decorations to hide mundane things, price tags (specifying IG or OOG cost), payment methods/arrangements, receipts, if they'll accept haggling, etc.

As a reminder, tags cannot be purchased with OOG money and non-tagged items cannot be stolen IG (that's OOG theft). The focus of this yard sale is for the trade/sale of non-tagged items, in compliance with Game Rules (like how real weapons are not allowed on field at any time, etc), that are directly related to fantasy/medieval LARPing. Tagged items can of course already be bought/sold IG for coin at any time. It is up to the buyer and seller to come to an agreement on OOG payment, whether that is cash or electronic payment later that evening / after the event, and if the item will be held until payment is received, etc. As a reminder, the IG term “federals” refers to cash/USD and we’ll be using the term “payspell” to reference electronic payments and ""non-certified"" to reference non-tagged items.

These Yard Sales will be repeating events on the following Saturdays, 12pm-4pm: Regular Event 3/19, RP Event 4/30, RP Event 6/3, and RP Event 10/1.

If you'd like to share what you're bringing ahead of time, feel free to post within this announcement comment thread.

If you have any questions, please contact Anna or Karigan! We can’t wait to see what everyone brings.

3.1 - Town Hall Meeting

The town hall meeting will take place March 16th at 8pm. We look forward to talking to everyone and getting everyone one pumped for this upcoming season.

Thank you,

Odd Year Rep & Even Year Rep

1.24 - QM Announcement

Hello everyone! I can't express how excited I am to be taking over the QM1 position! For those of you who weren't able to make it to the B.O.D meeting, my goals are to help turn the QM position into a GM assistant position/costume department with a member of staff in rotation helping npcs prepare for modules to create a more indepth atmosphere.

To do this we will need tons of help which means QM work days and EXP for assisting! :) We also need some crafting experts who are willing to share some of their tricks of the trade. If you have any experience in prop making, costuming, sewing, face painting/makeup, resin casting, leather working, 3d printing, etc please email me your resume with photos (costumes, props, past commissions, etc) and we can set up a time for an interview.

P.S. If you have any questions about the position, feel free to message me on FB. All resumes and photos for QM applications should be sent to qm@kanar.club.

Thank you,

Daniel Miller, Quartermaster 1

1.4 - 2022 Site Caretaker

Hello KGE Family,

The BLD has sent out Caretaker Forms to anyone who was previously listed as a site caretaker. If you believe yourself to be one of these caretakers, we ask that you check your email and fill out the form by February 1st, 2021. After this date, any unclaimed sites will become open for the BLD to find new Caretakers for. If you have not received an email and you believe you should have, please feel free to email us at bld@kanar.club.

The form is provided here and linked in the emails through Google Docs, and you can submit it back to us in two ways. Print it, fill it out physically, and scan it back onto your computer or take a photo. Then attach that to your email. Open the document and fill it out electronically. It is an interactive PDF.

Thank you so much for your time, and we hope you have a wonderful season.

12.30 - Winter Feast

Good morning Kanarbees,

In lieu of the cancellation of feast, the game masters thought we could make some considerations. If you have a group of people ( no more than ten) that you would like to gather up to have a one-day “feast”, please email the gm staff to get a one-day approval. A few mandatory terms will need to be met to be approved for a one-day. GM staff will need a point of contact for the feast, the person “in charge“ of said feast will need to submit an after-action report of said feast including a list of the up to ten members who attended. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Game Master staff at gm@kanar.club. Thank you and happy holidays!

-Steve Jones, Game Master

12.9 - Econ / GM

Hi guys! Currently some changes are being made to our game economics as well as the economics position, while in this transition period some time frames may be slowed in the process. We appreciate your patience!!

GM 1st - Steve J.

11.27 - Econ / PM Seeking Crafting Recipies

If you have any crafting recipes that are not in the crafting packets to submit them to the playmaster staff so they can be processed and considered for inclusion in the crafting packets.

- 8.2 - Armorsmithing Crafting Packet Update

Hello players of K1,

Your Econ 1st has a big drop for you all. We have updated the ArmorSmithing Crafting Packet that will get us through until we get closer to not only a rule book update, but when we dive further into each crafting packet. These changes have been approved by the Appropriate GM and PM staff. The new crafting pack will take effect on Friday, August 20th, at 5:00 PM EST.

If you have any more questions or feedback please reach out to Econ at econ@kanar.club

Matthew Schaar - Economics Marshal 1st

current update as followed:

  • Market at-cost price has change:
  • Plate: lower by 18 silver
  • Chain lower by 11 silver
  • Composite lower by 8 silver
  • Leather lower by 1 silver

Amount you can craft between events:

Crafting Amount has been increased for the time being, but will change once the field starts to get saturated to encourage armor crafting and wearing.

  • Novice: Increased composite by 1 location.
  • Trainee: Can now craft 3 locations of Leather, Composite, and Chain
  • Apprentice: Can now craft 7 locations of Leather and Composite. E.g a full suit of armor and ½ a suit of Chain with 3 locations of plate
  • Journeyman: Can now make 2 full sets of Leather and Composite, 1 suit of Chain, and 5 locations of plate.
  • Master: 3 full suits of armor of leather and composite. 2 full suits of chain, and 1 full plate suit.

Material Cost Change:

Material Cost has changed as well with Plate armor costing 10 material units from 12.

Armor Repair Time Change:

Armor repair times have been updated from 1 A.P to 5 A.P. This means if you're a master Armorsmith you can repair 120 points of armor in less than ½ hour.

Status effects of Armor added:

Armor has been given status effects as well, called Broken and Destroyed.

Broken Armor is when the Armor points have reached zero. This allows a player to go into town or find an armorsmith who can repair their armor on field without having to buy or make new armor.

Destroyed Armor however means it can not be repaired. Normally this is due to Plot effect or spells like Withered Armor. These tags must be replaced in town or a new item must be crafted by an armorsmith. Seek tag drop off box or staff on your way off the field.

8.2 - NPCs Needed

Good afternoon,

I am looking for 10 - 15 combat NPCs for a four-hour shift during the Saturday of the next event (08/21/2021).

This shift will take place in the evening but won't be going super late into the night. I turn into a pumpkin around 11pm so certainly no later than that.

Members that NPC for the whole shift will get an additional reward on top of their GM XP.

If you are willing to sign up please post your discord name below and you will be added to an encounter discord.

Thank you in advance.

Marcus S. Theme Marshal

6.20 - In Person Event Prep

Hello Players!

As a reminder, your annual membership payment, annual registration form, event fee, and any owed balance is due prior to stepping onto the field of play. If you do not have everything completed, you will not be allowed to participate. Checks are no longer an accepted form of payment, and at this time we are not accepting cash.

For the month of June, you must check in with staff directly and show proof of vaccination. This can be done online or in-person. If check-in staff is not available due to late arrival, you must check in first thing in the morning.

If you are not certain if you are paid in full or have your ARF completed, please email treasurer@kanar.club. I am happy to confirm with you.

Thank you!

6.5 - Change in the KGE Mailing Address

Hello Kanar Members,

KGE now has a physical mailbox at the property, instead of the PO Box. While this is mostly only of concern to the Board of Directors for business management, we just wanted you to know of the change. This will save us about $90 a year, be significantly easier for the Treasurer to collect our mail, and a better / more apparent identifier of where our driveway is.

Please do not mess with the mailbox in any way.

Thank you!

6.2 - Tree-Cutting June 5-6

There will be a tree-cutting professional working on our property this weekend, June 5-6. Please allow them to do their job. If you have any questions about this direct them to bld@kanar.club.

You can even earn XP through the Playmaster Reward Program! Take the Survey! You have until the 24th of June to fill this out.

5.15 - Econ Annoucement Tag Pick Up, Coin Drop Off, and New Players

Hello Members of KGE and Players of K1,

The Economics team wants to reach out to remind you that we will be doing coin turn-in day this Saturday from 11AM - 6PM, and we will have players Gift Bags and Tags! If you have been wanting to get ahold of tags you collected during an event or crafted all year this is a chance to pick them up.

This coin pick-up will be important, as it has been decided that we will not be allowing players to place their banks into the negative anymore, starting in June. If you try to buy an item or skill in town and your player bank is negative you will be denied skills learned in town or items that you buy during online events and craft between events. We will try to have another coin drop-off day between the May and June event.

When Filling out the Coin Transfers during the event it is important that we get as much information as we can. Players and Staff, when giving out coin please include details on what you buy, who you are giving money to, and why. It is also important to write out player names and their character names, as this will make sure players get the coin that they need.

Many of our new players from the start of 2020 to present have not had a chance to go through our new player experience with the Economics Marshals. Because of this, many of the players missed out on buying items in town, but some even missed out on getting the starting 50 silver coin to buy said items. If you are a new player and have not received your starting coin, please fill out the Item Creation/ Tag Submission form and select “I'm not making a tag, I am a new player requesting their starting coin.” This way you can get your starting coin until we are able to have live events.

Please remember, if you have any issues with player banks or tags to reach out to the Economics team via econ@kanar.club so we can quickly solve any issues or problems that you have without having to go to other staff channels.

Thanks everyone for being patient with K1 staff while we all deal with this pandemic.

Matthew Schaar

5.7 - Tag-pickup

Hello members of KGE and players of K1,

The members of the Economic Marshal Staff would like to inform you that we will be doing a tag pick up and coin turn-in on May 15, from 11am to 6pm, pending weather. There you can ask Econ basic questions, pick up gift bags and tags, and drop off coins to be added to your accounts. Please keep in mind that you may have tags to turn in or pick up as well from creating or using items during an online event. Please make sure to bring them with you.

We still continue to follow all CDC and State of Michigan guidelines for safety. I will be on-field near the center of town in a white Ford Explorer, which should be parked in front of Gnip Gnop Building or behind it in Fort Vinterhjem.

Matthew Schaar, Econ 1st

5.4 - BLD Donations Needed

We, the BLD, are going to be renting a skid steer/getting gravel to spread on the trails to make them dry, flat, and even to improve safety. As an added bonus this will also stop boots from being sucked into the swamp for all eternity and keep our garb less mud coated. Now would be a GREAT time for CASH donations to the BLD so we can get this project done before we go back to live events.

We would also like to remind everyone that you get 1XP for every $2 donated and that XP can be given to anyone, including your own character. There is a limit of 100XP PER PERSON for BLD but the XP can be spread out in anyway you choose. (Example. If someone donates $300 they have 150xp to give out to any player they choose, i.e 100 xp to their own character and 25xp to two besties, etc).

Go to the BLD Resources Page to donate!!

Thanks for your help making our trails and houses dry and safe!

Beware of Ticks!

This past weekend a number of groups were out working on their sites . This is amazing and exactly what the Building and Land Department loves to see.

We have also received some reports of people finding ticks on themselves or their clothing. It seems like we are going to have a bumper crop of ticks this year and the last thing we want is anyone getting sick (even if you get a tick latched on to you the chances of catching a disease is small if you act quickly and correctly).

Here is a video of how and were you should check yourself for ticks while on field and when you get home. Please do not remove ticks if you do not know how to do such.

Thank you in the continued effort to keep our membership safe. Marcus, BLD 1st.

5.1 - New Rule Book and PM Annoucements

This past BOD meeting a new Rule Book was passed. A list of changes and clarifications from the Clarification Log were implemented. The newly appointed Play Master 1st, Jeremiah Klabis, would like to inform members that a player survey will be released soon about the Rule Book and its changes. The Playmaster staff will be giving 6 PM XP to every player who submits the Playmaster Player Survey! Be on the lookout for the survey soon, in the meantime please familiarize yourself with the new rulebook.

4.30 - Item Creation / Tag Submission

Dear Members of K1,

It came to the Economics Marshals team's attention that some players are using saved url links to an old Item Creation / Tag Submission form that they have saved before my time as Economic Marshal, and have been submitting tag and coin requests. That form is no longer in use or ownership by the K1 Econ team. The most updated link is on the kanar.club website and should have a light blue background. If you have been submitting a request for items using the old form, please resubmit your item/coin request with it noted which event you were crafting between. If you have any more questions please reach out to econ@kanar.club.

Thank you,

Matthew Schaar

2021 State of the Property

Hello KGE Members,

The Building and Land Department would like to thank everyone for rolling with the punches on the rollout of the new Caretaker Handbook. As with the release of any new documentation system, it was not always smooth sailing, but we have heard your feedback and are already looking at document edits we would like to make in 2022. A huge thank you to Matt Ash and Holly Eatinger who were instrumental in the creation of this document.

With the rollout of the Caretaker Handbook members now have a more defined path to new site/structure approval and maintenance expectations. Building construction guidelines are more clearly laid out so that members have a starting point when thinking about structure design. Most importantly, members now have a one-stop shop for 95% of the information they will need for being a Site Caretaker. This is a massive improvement over our old system and something that I am extremely proud of.

Out of the twenty-seven Caretaker Handbooks that were sent out to existing site owners only four were not returned or declined. I think this is just another example of how invested the current membership is in our property. I want to assure everyone that existing Caretakers were communicated with multiple times over this rollout and attempted contact was made to members who we did not get a response from on at least three separate occasions.

One of these declined sites was a personal site where zero modifications to the land had been made. Thus, the site will be erased from the book and not reopened to the membership as it is a patch of unworked forest and nothing more.

A site that will be open for members to apply for is the “Tipsey Mouse / Drunken Duck / Sleepy Goblin” also known as the small bar by the town firepit. I built this structure back in 2017 and it has held up remarkably. The Building and Land Department looks forward to what the next Caretaker does with this site. If you are interested in applying for this site please email the Building and Land Department. If none of the members want this site as it currently exists we will open the structure up to the membership to be relocated to an existing site.

Tribeland was not signed for by its previous Caretaker and thus the Building and Land Department is going to take this opportunity to relocate Tribeland to an area of the field that is more closely connected to High Trail or Low Trail. If any current members of Tribe would like to volunteer to be the Caretaker of this new site please email the Building and Land Department. The BLD will happily assist in moving what remains of the current Tribeland to the new site. While the choice to relocate Tribeland was a hard one, I feel that placing it near one of our existing and maintenanced trails improves player safety, increases inner club comradery, and makes community storytelling easier for our members and our staff. I look forward to working with the new Caretaker of Tribeland to find a new spot for those members and to creating a new and special place for that group. Once this new site is established “Tribe Trail” will no longer be maintenanced or recognized by the BLD.

The Claddagh site has become available. Anyone who has been on the property in the past year knows that this site has fallen into a state of disrepair and that special attention is going to be needed to make this area safe for play once we return to live events. There has been an outpouring of members who are interested in taking over parts of this site. Thus, the Building and Land Department will be breaking this large site into three, more manageable sites. Let me make one thing very clear, as long as I am the Building and Land Director, House Claddagh will always have a place at this site. This site has been their home for almost a generation and it is important that we preserve those memories. House Claddagh will still be in the center of town, it is just going to look a little different. I am currently in talks with two active members of House Claddagh, to make sure that this historically established group of players feel like they are getting a fair shake as we reorganize this area of the field.

As was pointed out at the last Board of Directors meeting, the area of NPC Land has sustained heavy damage over the past year. The Building and Land Department asks that club members stay out of this area unless doing work on it. I am actively in talks with our Safety Staff to make sure that we have a plan in place for once we are able to have in-person workdays. As soon as this area is safe for use the Building and Land Department plans to expand Tent City to a second site so that we can have more room, and more privacy, for our members who want to camp out on our property.

Club members who will be returning to the property for the first time in a few months will notice some signs making visitors aware that there are cameras on the property. I have been asked a number of times if this is a bluff and I will again make it clear to the membership that KGE does have cameras on the property to protect club and member investments. The only time images from these cameras will be used is for vandalism, theft, or other criminal activity investigations. These cameras are moved around to make sure that almost all of our property is monitored every month. If you come upon one of these cameras please leave it alone.

Lastly, I want to thank all of our members that have been safely utilizing our property during the past year. While we are a club rooted in Live Action Roleplay we are also a club centered around 44 acres in Milan, MI. Your membership fee grants you access to the property 24-hour/365 days a year, with the exception of when the lands are rented to a third party. Every hour our property has a club member on it is an hour with increased property protection and where memories are being made. While the BLD often is focused on structures, trees, and firepits, we do it with the hope that our fellow club members are going to make amazing memories on this community land.

I thank you for taking the time to read this report and as always I welcome your thoughts and feedback via my official club email - bld@kanar.club.

Yours in comradery,

- Marcus Schwimmer , BLD 1st

If you believe yourself to be one of these caretakers, we ask that you check your email and fill out the form by April 20th, 2021. Module Land Off Limits Until Further Notice

Module Land Off Limits Until Further Notice

Safety and the BLD are currently monitoring a hazardous land situation. There are a number of trees in Module Land that are about to fall or have already fallen over the winter. They have caused some damage to the D’Cather area and made trails impassable at several points in the loop. A number of trees are brittle enough to be pushed over by hand, leading to serious concerns about players accidentally felling trees during modules. As of right now, the Safety and BLD departments request that players avoid the NPC area past the old Brisbane camp and remain strictly on the trails when walking to Tent City or the Supply Depot.

Building & Land Department XP Notification

Building & Land Department XP Notification

Hello folks!

The BLD wants to remind you what you can submit for XP! We’ve noticed a lot of work being done on the property, but have had very little XP submissions lately. Up to 100 BLD XP can be earned per season, so don’t miss out!

Pretty much any work done on the property can be submitted. Some examples are:

  • Raking

  • Cleaning spaces of debris

  • Picking up non-natural objects

  • Chopping firewood for the town center

  • Any building done (with BLD approval)

  • And more!

If you think you can get XP for it, submit it with pictures using the BLD On Field Workday Submission Form: https://airtable.com/shrktYJPJ6WUnYSoI

We’re also accepting donations so that we can purchase items to improve the field, such as a magnet roller to pick up nails and a pole saw to take down dangerous tree limbs. Please consider donating here to help us reach these goals.

Thank you for your hard work, and have a great season!
