4.30 - Proposed 'Fresh Start' Survey

We want your feedback on the reworked "Fresh Start" policy that was sent to committee at the last BOD meeting. This will be a quick survey, only accepting answers for the next two weeks, asks for your feedback on the 3 key points of the proposal.

Please take the survey at https://forms.gle/NSQNjc5rbVykiVpN8 and help us make informed decisions!

4.21 - Playtest

Good day adventurers.

We will be running a playtest at the may event. All Players and even some NPCs will be able to use the following skill once per day at the May event only.

Skill: Step Back: This ability is used with a strike and verbal call of "Step Back" that cannot have damage attached to it. The strike does not need to be successful and cannot be stopped. The target must take 2 steps back before continuing in combat. Target must be within a 2 feet range of user. This ability can not be used to interrupt a spell.

(This ability simulates pushing someone away from you)

4.8 - BLD Work Days

Hello Club Members!

BLD is happy to announce 2 planned work days (so far) for this year - Saturday 6/8 & Saturday 10/12. We wanted to give as much notice as possible for these particular dates so people can plan ahead. The projects to be completed will be decided as we get closer. Because of the time of year, the hours for the work days will be slightly different from each other. June's work day will be 12pm to 6pm and October's will be 11am to 5pm.

Additionally, we will also have impromptu events, with less notice, as weather & time allows for. And don't forget BLD has a list of tasks, if you're looking to help on your own time! You can email us for ideas, but typical things that always need to be done are clearing leaves, twigs, & tree limbs from trails, splitting / stacking wood, disposing of trash / debris, cleaning out community fire pits, or helping to manage the vegetation overgrowth. You can also earn XP by helping others with their site upkeep, but please communicate directly with site owners if assistance is needed before doing any work.

As a reminder, BLD XP is awarded 1 XP per 30 minutes worked or 1 XP per $2.00 contribution.

The more volunteers we can get, the more progress we can make on this list. We hope to see you out there!
BLD Team

4.1 - Announcement from the GM/Econ

Hello players!

At this past event, Econ staff discovered silver coins in circulation that had been painted gold. While some of our gold coins are anodized, it was quite obvious this was paint as the color was different and it was flaking, not rubbing off like anodizing would. It goes without saying that painting coins is against the rules and spirit of the game. If you have any suspicious coins in your possession, please turn them in to Econ at the next available event. If another player passes one of these coins off to you as gold, please report it to the GM staff. Thank you. Any coins turned in will be replaced with the appropriate currency.

Proposals to update multiple SOP documents were approved. Specifically:
K1G-001 K1 SOP 23.02 to bring the CBM title in line with the other positions of the same level. Additionally a grammar correction, and rephrasing of sections to be gender neutral.

1.1-KGE-RO 23.10 to change verbiage to be gender neutral and fix an old acronym to be updated.

1.3-KGE-SPS 23.01 to change verbiage and update an old acronym.

K1G-002 POL 001-007 23.02 to change verbiage and update an old acronym.

K1-POL-002 now reads:
The use of tags in Kanar is vital to the game play. It is the intent of this policy to set up a process that shall enforce the use of tags without slowing the pace of the game as a whole. Therefore, the Kanar Game Staff Operations Managers (KGSOM) have set forth this statement of policy to be followed by all members of K1.
In order for your Player Character (PC) to use or carry any item requiring a tag, you must have both a physical representation (Phys Rep) and an item tag. Crafting Materials are an exemption to this policy; they do not require you to have a physical representation. However, crafting tags may be stolen.
If the Phys Rep is lost or taken, and there is no item tag to be found on you, then the item is still considered lost / stolen by a thief.
Items that a PC or Non-Player Character (NPC) could not physically carry require the use of a "Deed of Ownership". A deed of ownership is a piece of parchment with the word deed written on it, what it is a deed of, and the tag number it is associated with. Deeds of Ownership are stealable.
Armor worn by a PC cannot be stolen unless physically removed. You may only have armor tags on you that you have physical representations for.
Temporary Tags that are issued during the current event are stealable without a physical representation present. If a tag is lost and there is no Phys Rep, the item is lost forever. If a PC still has their Phys Rep, but the tag is lost, they may get the tag back.

K1G-001 K1 SOP 23.02 that allows the splitting of the rulebook into multiple documents. The Kanar Rulebook will be divided into the following book types: The Core Rulebook and Supplementary Rulebook Codex(s).
The Core Rulebook: This document will contain the core mechanical aspects of the game, which are deemed to be integral to the operation of the standard aspects of the game. Supplementary Rulebook Codex(s): These documents will supplement the Core Rulebook; they are intended to allow for more in-depth game play without bloating the Core Rulebook and its core mechanics.

Subclasses approved.

3.24 - Seasonal Reminder of the Personal Safety Policy

Hello, players! Safety 1st Kiri here. I've had a few questions this event about what to do if roleplay on field gets a little intense and causes some worry about whether the feelings are in character or out. Below is KGE policy #18, which covers personal safety while at our games. Please make sure you're especially familiar with the process for how to check on other players during gameplay. It's a long post, but important to know. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read through!

Personal Safety

Personal safety is important to Kanar Gaming Enterprises, Inc. We hope members make informed decisions before playing the game. Therefore, the KGE Board of Directors has set forth this statement of policy to be followed by all members of KGE.

  1. KGE sponsored games, like K1, use padded facsimiles of melee and ranged weapons in simulated combat.

  2. KGE recommends that every player wear an athletic supporter, padded gloves, and safety goggles.

  3. Pregnant members may attend KGE events as non-combatants.

  4. During any sponsored game a participating member may break character, putting their hand over their head and speaking out-of-game, to let other participants know that they are not feeling real-world safe in the situation. If needed, a hold may be called. Participants should assess their gameplay, consider whether they are roleplaying in line with the code of conduct, and either find a way to safely re-engage in gameplay or disengage from the situation entirely. Any participant can choose to walk away from any situation they feel is unsafe.

This guideline should be followed when handling unsafe situations:

If a participant communicates that they feel unsafe and is able to communicate what is making them feel unsafe, the participants involved are encouraged to have a short discussion on how the situation can be changed to resolve the issue.

  • If a solution can be reached, players are encouraged to re-engage in gameplay with changes made.
  • If a solution can not be reached or the changes do not remedy the situation, the unsafe participant is encouraged to disengage from the situation and seek out a member of staff as needed.

If a participant communicates that they feel unsafe and is not able to communicate what is making them unsafe:

  • Without a communicated way to resolve the issue, it is highly recommended that the participant disengage from the situation and seek out a member of staff as needed.

If a participant is concerned that another participant is feeling unsafe or unwell, they are encouraged to put their hand on their head and briefly check in. We recommend the following methods:

  • Verbally, by quietly asking if everything is 'mundanely okay' and getting a verbal response from the other participants. This should not interrupt surrounding gameplay unless a hold needs to be called.
  • Nonverbally, by giving a thumbs up and receiving either a thumbs up for safe or thumbs down for unsafe.

If all participants are safe, gameplay should continue. If they are not, participants should follow the resolution guide listed above.

If a participant is leaving the event due to not feeling real-world safe, a member of the Safety Response Team must be informed of the issue before the participant leaves the property so an investigation can begin. The Safety Response Team member must report the situation to Safety 1st for further investigation. If needed, see the guideline for extreme situations below.

In case of extremely unsafe situations, the following procedure should be followed:

  • A hold should be called by the participant that does not feel safe.
  • A member of the Safety Response Team must escort the unsafe-feeling participant to an out-of-game area.
  • If a member of the Safety Response Team is not present, the participant who called the hold should designate someone to escort them to an out-of-game area and stay with them until a member of the Response Team arrives.
  • The Response Team member or designated escort and unsafe participant will walk off the field of play with a hand over their head. The escorting party will designate someone to call off the hold for those not involved with the safety issue once they are fully clear of the situation.
  • A Response Team member will remain with the participant at all times until the situation is resolved or the participant leaves KGE property.
  • A member of Play Master, Game Master, and Safety Staffs are required to address the situation with the other participants involved, investigate whether rules or policies have been broken in the situation, and deliver warnings and removal from gameplay as warranted. This is to be done in an out-of-game area which may not be the same area where the unsafe-feeling participant and Response Team member have gone.
  • If the participants involved are removed from the event, a member of the Board of Directors must be contacted to escort the removed participants from the field of play as per procedure.
  • If the situation is investigated by a member of staff who is not the head of their department, their department head must be notified of updates as soon as possible.
  • Disciplinary actions must be documented with the Safety department.
  • If the investigation determines that action beyond the scope of the GM, PM, and Safety staff is required, a Judicial Review Board Request should be submitted by the unsafe-feeling participant. The Board of Directors will review the investigation findings and actions suggested by the investigating party and determine whether removal from a staff position, suspension, or removal from KGE is warranted via the Judicial Review process.

Thank you for reading to the end! If you have any questions about any of this, please talk to me on field or send an email to safety@kanar.club.

-Kiri, Safety 1st

3.22 - Start of 3/22/2024 Game pushed back to 7:00 pm

Good afternoon, KGE Membership:

While we are all excited to start the 2024 Kanar Season, The Game Master Staff, Safety Staff, and Building & Land Department have all met and agreed to push the start of today’s event back to 7:00 pm due to inclement weather and poor road conditions. Players can still access the property before 7:00 pm, but “Game On” will not start until that time. This is in hopes that members and staff have extra time to travel to the property safely.

We do not make this decision lightly as we respect our membership's commitment to the game and the playtime you dedicate to your characters.

With thanks,
The Game Master Staff, Safety Staff, and Building & Land Department

May Announcements (5.22)

5.22 - Additional Econ Staff Needed

Hello players! Your current Econ here. I am posting this announcement to catch the interest of those players who would like an opportunity to give back to the game on an economic level. I am currently looking for an Econ 2nd and field staff to assist with the bank and crafting tags. If you enjoy spending time helping out other players, have decent math skills and want to learn more about our economic system, you could be a fit. Please send all inquiries to Econ at Econ@kanar.club Thank you for your interest.

5.19 - Safety Request: Lamplighters

Good morning, everyone! Friendly neighborhood Safety 1st Kiri here with a special request for the May event.

The torches on field need to be filled for tonight and tomorrow, and we may need more kerosene. I'm offering 5 Safety XP to volunteers for each night this event to take the kerosene container in a cart around the trails to fill all torches with pink tape on them, and 1XP/$1 for a filled kerosene jug (please keep receipts). This task is best done in pairs, and this XP does go on top of the normal 30XP event cap!

As of right now, we have had zero Lamplighters Guild volunteers for this season. If you would like to become a regular Lamplighter volunteer, there is an in-game aspect to joining the Lamplighters Guild in character, which includes coin among other things.

To remind players, you are encouraged and welcome to light torches you come across once it starts to get dark on the trails.

For questions please email safety@kanar.club or see me at the GM shed at the event. I'm not on Facebook, so I won't see anything posted here.

See you all out there! Kiri, Safety 1/GM 2

5.19 - GM Event Hype

EVENT HYPE: The Bugbear flip module will take place on Saturday starting at 1:00. This flip mod will take place on the NPC Land section of the property so if you do not want to participate the town of Illveresh will be open to you.

A few reminders - players are responsible for providing their own water. This is going to be a combat heavy mod, with things for non-coms to do, so you are going to want to hydrate before, during, and after.

We have started to see poison ivy pop up. Please be mindful of where you fall down to die. We want everyone to have a good time and a bad case of poison ivy post event will be a downer for everyone. If you do not know what poison ivy looks like, please find me before the mod so I can point it out to you.

There will be a number of staff in pink sashes to make an encounter of this size work. These staff will not only be helping with logistics for the module but will also be watching for safe fighting. If a staff member comments on your fighting, please follow their lead. If you disagree with their call, then please let the staff know after the module has concluded. Staff will not tolerate arguments from players during the module. We will likely have over 100 players on this mod and maybe a dozen staff. It's not that we don't want to hear your concerns, we just need to have our eyes on the situation at hand.

Loot will be handed out after the module. There will be no need to loot every NPC. This is to make sure that our NPCs can get off the ground and to a safe spot as soon as possible. Please stay after the module has concluded to get your loot.

Please remember that "Hold" is our word for everyone to stop and check for a safety event. We have recently encountered some scenarios of people using the word "hold" to indicate that a fighting line should be stationary. Any use of the word "hold" will be considered a safety call and combat will be stopped. Also, "Healer" is the call that should be used for magic healing folks. "Medic" is a term for OOG safety members.

All PCs will be split into two groups. An NPC will be sent to Illveresh on Friday night with more information on how PCs should split themselves and to answer any questions about the encounter IG. The Adventurer's Academy will still be taking place this month with the Academy teachers showing up to Illveresh around 11:00 am. We will not be able to wait around for players to get ready due to the full timeline we have planned for Saturday. If you are under 6th level and want to go on the Adventurer's Academy adventure, please be ready at 11:00 am to roll out.

Thats all for now! - Marcus S.

5.17 - From the Desk of CBM1st

Hello Everyone, We hope you are all looking forward to this coming event! We wanted to reach out and let you know about some changes that have been made to the Character Signout Form.

Recently it was decided that the number of days that a member attended an event was not relevant anymore for XP purposes unless they purchased a one day event pass. That being said, with the creation of the different ticket tiers and season pass tiers, it became more important to track attendance and xp awarded by the ticket and not the days a player attended.

Once this distinction was determined, we decided to change up the signout form to reflect the membership level or ticket tier purchased for any given event.

When you do your next signout, you will notice that there is no longer a question asking you how many days you attended and rather the ticket level or membership tier instead.

We hope that the changes will not only assist CBM but will also make your signout experience just a little bit easier. There are now 13 options to choose from.

The number of days is no longer being asked and instead the question is:

‘What tier of membership/ticket did you purchase? If you paid but were unable to attend, please choose your corresponding membership/ticket - Did Not Attend.’

We ask that you choose the option that most represents your ticket or membership/ticket/attendance level for that event or season.

For Example, if you attended the most recent Role Play Event, please pick that option when doing your signout for that event.

If you attended a regular event and you are a season pass holder, please choose the option for “Season Pass” and the tier of Season Pass you purchased for that season.

If you paid for the event or are a season pass holder and for whatever reason you were unable to attend, please choose the appropriate ticket level or season pass level and “Did Not Attend”.

With all of this being said, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at CBM@kanar.club. We will be more than happy to assist you.

See you all at the event, Your CBM Staff

5.9 - CBM

Hello everyone! Just your CBM crew here to let you know your character sheet updates for the April Live Event have been completed!

As always, if you find something of concern or issue or you didn't get an update, Please check the ""Staff Comments"" tab on your sheet for possible information, or you can reach out to us at cbm@kanar.club and I am sure we can work together to get it taken care of!

Just a friendly reminder, we ask that players refrain from sending emails with questions regarding updates to their sheets or any missing information or XP until after we have posted that all of the current event updates have been completed.

Often we do updates in waves and sometimes we are not done with your sheet even if it says your update is complete for that event.

That all being said, we thank you all for your understanding and patience.

See you at the next event! Your CBM Staff!

October Announcements (10.13)

10.13 - Pre Event Hype

The falling leaves are bright and crisp as the world churns out another chilly autumn in the wake of the hot summer sun, and smiles abound as the harvest comes in more bountiful than expected. But beneath those smiles is the looming fear of what approaches. Smith's hurry to forge silver weapons and towns fortify their walls and graveyards in fear of what the season brings at its apex, when the darkness encroaches and the veil is thinnest. Despite being a yearly ritual, the anticipation haunts those preparing. These things are known, and planned for, but what of the unknown? What of the fires that seem to whisper to each other, refusing to burn brightly? What of the impending army of fey folk, sworn to vengeance? Will they join forces with the hordes, or will they wait to take down survivors when the dust from bones and bodies clear?

10.12 - Safety Updates for October 2022

Hello, everyone! Friendly neighborhood Safety 1st here with a few announcements.

Covid: Updates have been made to the Covid Guidelines. There are no new guidelines, and a few have been relaxed and clarified. Please remember that all members are encouraged to mask to their personal comfort levels and respect any requests for social distancing made my another member.

These changes will be in effect for the 2022 October event and, if everything goes well, will be in place for the rest of the 2022 season. If you have any questions or feedback, please email me at safety@kanar.club.

Cold Weather Larp: It's supposed to be chilly this weekend, so remember to bring your cold weather garb! Layers of clothes and multiple socks will help keep you warm. If you don't have period garb for the cold yet, try layering modern clothes like thermals underneath your normal garb. If you'd like more advice for surviving the colder months, reach out to more veteran players for their own tips and tricks!

Lighting: The main trails on the field of play and the trail leading to Tent City have torches placed for lighting. If it's dark on the trail and you come across a filled torch that hasn't been lit, please feel free to light it! If there are any spaces that need more lighting, please let a member of Safety staff know. If you'd like to volunteer to fill and light torches, please contact me by email or at the GM shed and get 5 Safety XP as a thanks!

Donations: We have a few things on our list, and new things are always being added! We're still on the hunt for solar lights that are bright enough to light the trails, but aren't obviously modern. Take a look and email me your receipts for XP awards!

10.10 - October Monthly Econ Update

Hello players,

It's that time already for the monthly update from Econ. We apologize for the late update, with the volume of tags turned in last event the Econ team has finally finished this month's submissions. We are requesting at this time that all players who are attending the October All Hallow's Event who HAVE NOT turned in their tags to please prepare for turn in. October 2022 is THE CUT OFF for current players to turn in, this excludes the groups that have already been made aware of their turn in time for the month of November. Please make arrangements to get your tags turned in. Please remember if you missed your month and you've attended an event after your designated turn in and you do not turn in your tags this season, they will be invalid and cannot be used next season.

Please take photos of your tags prior to turn in for your records. You may turn in your tags at anytime the Econ is on duty and may use your photos as proof of your tags during game time to speed up the process of tag turn in.

We would also like to remind the player base to please use the item creation form to submit their pink temporary tags with their sign outs at the end of the events.

Temporary tags do have an expiration date for submission written on them for the following month. We are encouraging players to please be mindful of that and submit them in a timely fashion. We do understand this is a new practice that will take some transition time which we will be accommodating for this season.

Here is the link to the item creation form found on the Kanar website. Please reach out to Econ at econ@kanar.club for further questions and inquiries.

We look forward to seeing you all in Ilveresh.

Kind Regards, The Econ Team

10.10 - From the Desk of CBM1st

Hello everyone! Just your CBM crew here to let you know your character sheet updates for both the September Live Event and the September Role Play Only Event have been completed!

We apologize for the longer than usual wait time in between updates, as we normally have them out before now, but we wanted to get all of the updates in before the big upcoming All Hallows event, so that everyone knew how much XP they had to spend on skills and learning!

This past two events tallied up to more than 156 signouts! We also added all of the Dept XP requests that had been approved at the moment. So, everyone should be all set there as well!

As always, if you find something of concern or issue or you didn't get an update, Please check the ""Staff Comments"" tab on your sheet for possible information, or you can reach out to us at cbm@kanar.club and I am sure we can work together to get it taken care of!

Hope to see you all at All Hallows!!

Thanks again, Your CBM Staff!

I've been put in charge of assembling ye old Shambly Melee crew for All Hallows. I'm looking for 10 individuals willing to follow me into glorious battle in the very thick of it. Participants should feel safe fighting and marching in formation, comfortable working in a team and following commands.

If you are interested, please FB message me directly and I'll get you on the roster and the discord so we can go over more pertinent details.

Hope to see you, and happy gaming!♡

9.29 All Hallows Costumed NPCs

The All Hallows event is coming up and the GM staff is looking for NPCs. In the spirit of Halloween, the All Hallows event is traditionally a costume-encouraged event for our NPCs so if you'd like to sign up and dress the part for an evening, please reach out to GM@kanar.club for more information. We're very flexible with NPC concepts so if you already have a costume or idea that fits in with a spooky encounter, we'll work with you and help you craft an NPC that fits in with the shenanigans. For all our elves that hunted Agelong this year, this is a great opportunity to return the favor for our dedicated orcs!

9.21 Out of Game Calls

The Playmaster staff would like to remind everyone of that mechanical calls are out of game. A few examples follow:

Example 1:

A Rogue walks up to someone pokes them with their dagger boffer and says "Silent Kill".

The words "Silent kill" are an out of game mechanical call. You can't react to hearing the call. If you watched the Rogue slip the blade into the target you can react to seeing that. You would not know they struck a perfect blow. If you used forensics on the corpse you may be able to establish they recieved a perfect blow.

Example 2:

A caster incants and says "Create Undead IV". You watch as the target of the spell gets up from the ground.

"Create Undead IV" is a mechanical call of the spell being used and is out of game so you can't react to it. The target getting up from the ground depending on what was created may appear to be a human or whatever race they are. If you have Undead lore then you would definatly be able to identify it as an Undead by saying "Undead Lore". Without Undead lore if the Undead isn't obviously not alive you may think you just watched someone get a "Life spell".

The above are just 2 examples of out of game mechanical calls. We are trying to make sure that we are all of the same understanding of the rules of our game.

Thank you for your time,

Playmaster Staff

9.19 Missing Weapons

I have noticed a shortage in the weapons supplied by QM for NPCs and players that are without physreps. Specifically, latex-styled weapons and a Calimacil bastard sword. (Damaged weapons have already been checked.) If you find that you have accidentally taken an item home that belongs to KGE, please return it at your earliest convenience. If this continues I will be forced to implement a checkout system where a personal item is given to QM as collateral until physreps are returned.

Thank you,

Daniel Miller QM1

September Announcements (8.26)

9.15 - Player Shout Out

Attention Players

If you were involved with eating the “Exotic Oranges” that were handed out last festival (August) please email the GM Staff at gm@kanar.club before coming to field this Friday. Thank you so much and we’ll see you soon.

9.14 - Module Update from the GM

Hey folks! The GM staff will be playtesting some new processes during the next event and we wanted to give you all a heads up. As modules have become increasingly popular, last event highlighted several issues with the process. Too many modules combined with a lot of waiting around for people as well as a lack of NPCs made things less than ideal, and at one point there were not enough PCs on the field for us to safely run NPC encounters. To help keep things on schedule, we are going to try something different.

For the September event, the GM staff will have time slots specifically assigned for modules. These time slots are tentatively 8pm Friday night, 1pm and 4pm on Saturday, and 12 noon on Sunday. If you have a module you are supposed to go on, it will be in one of these time slots. We have also placed three new clocks on the field to help players keep track of the time without having to resort to electronic devices. These new clocks are located on the front of the GM shed, the front of the safety shed in the center of town, and on the side of the Vanari camp in new town.

Additionally, we have installed a cast iron bell atop the sign post near the crossroads entering the field. GM staff will ring this bell ten times ten minutes prior to the start of a module. This will give players time to finish up any roleplaying they are currently engaged in and to report to the GM shed for their module. Players that are interested in NPCing can also report to the GM shed at this time. After ten minutes, the module will begin so if players are late, they will either miss the module or have to be worked into it through storytelling.

The GM staff will also be using a chalk board to keep track of module schedules and rosters, so players can come sign up for NPC spots or check module times in advance. It is our hope that this process will help the game run smoother as well as allowing GM staff more time to focus on field encounters.

As a final note, effective this last event and moving forward, all players that complete an event sign out will have an additional 5sp added to their player banks. This is to represent money that all players should be able to scrape up in a month doing odds and ends outside of crafting. Hopefully this little bit of silver can help players enjoy their events a little bit more.

If you have any questions regarding any of these changes, please reach out to us or come see us at the GM shed this weekend. PLEASE keep in mind that this is all a playtest and subject to change. We hope to see you all in Ilveresh this weekend!

Jerimy H., GM 1st

9.11 - Monthly Econ Update

Hello players,

It's that time already for the monthly update from Econ. The Econ team has finished this month's submissions for the tag turn in. We are requesting at this time that all players who are attending the September Event with LAST names starting with V, W, X, Y and Z, to please prepare for turn in. We are also requesting for players that missed their turn in month to turn in their tags at THIS event as well.

We are also requesting to players who have missed their tag turn in date to please turn them in at the next event attended excluding RPO events. We are trying to avoid a mass build up of tags turned in at the end of the season. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in the matter.

We would also like to remind the player base to please use the item creation form to submit their pink temporary tags with their sign outs at the end of the events.

Temporary tags do have an expiration date for submission written on them for the following month. We are encouraging players to please be mindful of that and submit them in a timely fashion. 8.28 - Econ Reminder

Hello players,

Econ here just wanting to remind everyone that you are allowed to craft and do another action in your character sign outs. You don't need to submit another sign out, simply click on the item creation form below the character sign out.

You can craft for the Kingdom and make coin, or you can craft items with your crafting skills. The cut off for item submissions is tomorrow Monday August 29th at midnight. Don't forget to get them in as soon as you can.

A simple reminder to also put in your submissions for temp tag replacements through this form. There are expiration dates on them and though we are understanding, we are encouraging you all to be mindful of them. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to econ@kanar.club as our official means of communication.

Thank you, Your Econ Team

8.27 - Family Day Success!

I want to say thank you to all of the members that took the time, spent the money, and put in the effort needed to make Family Day possible. We wouldn't have been able to do it without every one of you. The children looked like they had a wonderful time fighting the bad guys, crafting their heraldry, and went nuts for the obstacle course I know my son did. All of you are truly amazing.

P.S. Don't forget to do your paperwork for your exp!

P.S.S. You guys are awesome!

8.28 - The Knights Conclave

A Call to the Chivalry of Novashan: Knights, Armigers, Squires, and Armsmen:

It is an honor to announce the annual Knights Conclave on October the 1st, 1022 at One O'Clock to Six O'Clock in the evening, in the town of Ilveresh in the County of Bellanmo.

The Knights Conclave will be open to the public of Ilveresh for the duration of the discussion, followed by a small meal for the chivalry and guests. If you wish to donate time or monetary resources, please contact Squire Korra, Squire Adawulf, or Squire Bell. We look forward to your attendance.

8.26 - Autumn Harvest Festival

Good Evening Ilveresh,

As Autumn falls upon us, Seneschal Rima SIlverleaf of Brisbane has decided to celebrate the changing of the seasons with a Harvest Festival on the saturday of the September moon. The fete will begin in the midday and allow for snacking, music and games to extend through the evening, focusing in the town center.

One of these prestigious seasonal games come from a long tradition of the Seneschal’s heritage, which will be a ‘hunt’ in which we will be looking for volunteers to be the ‘hunted’ as a celebrational event. There will be no life credits taken or life spells needed; so no one need to worry about volunteering. Prizes will be given at the end of the hunt to those who volunteer. Please just give us your name and we will happily add it to the list.

If you enjoy baking or cooking, anything seasonal will be welcome and if we can get a variety of baked goods, we can have a baking contest. Please see the feast food thread in the kanar fb group to offer help and additions.

Anyone NPCing will also have special games to play and prizes to win.

-Jenna F. (TM)

8.26 - GM: Module Logistics Help

The GM staff is working hard to improve the logistics surrounding modules, and we need your help! Last event saw several modules running throughout Friday and Saturday, and at several points throughout the event we had more people on modules than we had on the field. This is not ideal, as the goal is to bring more things to the field for general enjoyment.

Many of the factors contributing to the module bottlenecks were timing and NPC availability. It is very difficult to start a module on time when we have stragglers running late, and it can be hard to retain NPCs for modules when people are standing around for a half hour or more waiting for it to start. So, to combat this issue, we have need of a few player donations for items on this wish list.

First off, the GM shed needs some additional items to maximize staff efficiency. Lights, lanterns, and green tape are needed.

Second, we have received a few complaints about cell phones being visible during the event. Often times, this is likely due to people checking the time. We have a nice outdoor clock on the list, and we could use a couple of them to put around the field and at the GM shed. This should help reduce the need for mundane cell phone use as well as help player keep to module schedules.

Third, there’s a cast iron bell on the list. It’s a little expensive, but the GM staff plans to use it to signal to players when a module is about to begin. With the combination of clocks displayed on the field and a bell ringing ten minutes before a module, we are hoping to improve the flow of modules and reduce the impact they have on the field when they occur.

For players that might not be aware, Kanar has a donation policy that allows a player to donate items to staff and get award XP, up to 100 per year at a rate of 1xp per $2. For these items, the GM staff is offering a 1xp per dollar rate if we receive them before the September event. For the bell we will offer 100 xp and 100 silver. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at GM@kanar.club.

8.25 - BLD Work Day

The Building and Land Department is having a work day on September 3rd, from 10am to 6pm. We will need a lot of help, and are offering double XP for anyone who assists. As further thanks, the BLD will also be providing lunch for those that attend. Thank you in advance, we hope to see you there!

8.22 - Family Day is Upon Us!

We have been working really hard with a great group of volunteers to organize a great event for the whole family. There's a sneak peek in the photo.

Family Day is this Saturday, August 27, from 1 - 6 p.m.

Family Day Photo

Plans for the day include:

  • Welcome to Ilveresh!
  • Outfitting the Adventurers
  • Face painting
  • Sword training
  • Magic training
  • Assassin game
  • Battle of the Minds
  • Gambling Den
  • Artistry/Heraldry
  • Running in the woods time!
  • Gauntlet of Courage
  • Reward Loot

Want to help make Family Day as awesome as possible? Sign up to help on the day of the event. Volunteers are also needed earlier in the day to set up, as well as after the conclusion to clean up.

Or reach out to Alicia Secord or Daniel Miller for ways that you can help before the day of.

The assumption is that guests to the field will not be in any camps that have not approved participation, but if you would like to include your site in the Family Day festivities, please shoot one of us a message.

Per the BOD, Family Day is for members and their guests.

8.22 - QM Projects and Ideas

Are you looking to donate time but unsure how? Are you interested in using your crafting skills to help the game but you're not sure what to work on? Feel free to message any of the QM staff to be added to the Facebook Messenger group "QM Projects and Ideas." Here we communicate and exchange information in real-time about current and upcoming projects/ideas. All crafters are welcome. Not a crafter but still want to help out? 8.17 - Safety Wishlist Updated

Hello, all! Friendly neighborhood Safety 1st Kiri here with a lighting update!

We ran into a few issues last month with the lighting situation, and we're working on a few short and long term fixes:

For the short term, we need to replace a number of torch canisters which began leaking last event and have a reserve for any which may start failing this season. We're offering 1xp per $1, including shipping if you send it through our Amazon wishlist. Please bring your receipt to the event or email it to safety@kanar.club.

For the long term, we're looking into solar lighting options for town and the trails. Not only will this prevent issues with kerosene getting on anyone's garb, but it also tackles the issue of having open flame lighting at hair and clothing level and torches being knocked over or backed into during combat. We've got a few torches to test for brightness before we choose one type, tall shepherd's hooks to hang them from, and a few other items we need. We're offering 1xp per $2, including shipping.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please email me at safety@kanar.club. See you all out there!

8.12 QM Lost & Found Reminder

Hello everybody,

I want to put out a reminder to let everybody know that QM is now handling all lost and found items. If you find an item that is not yours in your camp, turn it into QM. Players are not to take home other players physreps. Taking home other players physreps that were lost/left behind has caused multiple issues in the past with the proper owner getting their items back.

If you have lost an item and believe it has been turned into lost and found, please contact one of the QM staff members(Daniel Miller, Atrum Viscus, and Holly Eatinger) or email qm@kanar.club. If you have another player's lost item, please turn it in to QM.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Daniel Miller, QM1

Hello club members the rulebook has been updated to be in compliance with KGE and K1 policies. There are no major changes in this book. It is strongly suggested you read the section on tags as it was the most out of compliance. This book will not be in effect until the standard September event.

July Announcements (7.19)

7.19 July Pre-Game Hype

As the summer sun is strong overhead, the forests seem to be dancing in the light. The fires burn brightly. The faces that seem to pop up in both just slightly unnerving. The rumors surrounding Ilveresh and the dealings that they make with the supernatural have been resurfacing throughout the kingdom. And there seems to be growing struggles of the common folk both within and out of its borders against both knights and nobles alike. Will those that feel scorned arise to the occasion or will they attempt to squash any resistance?

And the dust of Fenrest continues to settle with little to no interactions from the Mer. Have they been beaten, or are they just lying in wait?

Find out all this and more during the next event, July 22-24 at 10418 Plank Rd, Milan, MI 48160.

7.17 - Monthly Econ Update

It's that time already for the monthly update from Econ. The Econ team has finished this month's submissions for the tag turn in. We thank you all for turning in when we requested. For the month of July we are requesting all players with LAST names starting with M, N, O, P and Q, to please prepare for turn in.

Please take photos of your tags prior to turn in for your records. You may turn in your tags at anytime the Econ is on duty and may use your photos as proof of your tags during game time to speed up the process of turn in.

We do understand this is a new practice that will take some transition time which we will be accommodating for this season.

Here is the link to the item creation form found on the Kanar website.

Please reach out to Econ at econ@kanar.club for further questions and inquiries.

We look forward to seeing you all in Ilveresh.

Kind Regards,

The Econ Team

7.16 - Map Manager Position Open

The Game operation staff is in need of a map manager and we're reaching out to the players for interested candidates! As the story of the game continues to grow beyond Ilvaresh, we need to improve the resources available to the players for their adventures. The map manager will be responsible for maintaining and formatting all current and future maps, including updates to names, places, and political boundaries as well as occasionally creating adventure-specific maps.

If you're interested, please send an application to gm@kanar.club by July 31st. Discord interviews will be held during the first week of August.

Thank you!

7.13 - Mystic Quill Position Open

Hello players! As many of you know, Rebecca Coleman has assumed the role of Econ 1st on top of being our Mystic Quill editor. Econ is a lot of work and we thank Rebecca for taking on that responsibility, but trying to do both Econ and MQ is a lot to ask when there are many of you that are looking for ways to volunteer. So, Rebecca will be stepping down from the Mystic Quill in September and we’re looking for a new editor to resume her hard work!

If you are interested in becoming our new Mystic Quill Editor, please send an application to GM@kanar.club with your name and a brief summary of applicable skills and/or KGE staff experience. Applications will be accepted until July 31st, after which Discord interviews will be held.

7.5 - GM Interview

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! This weekend coming up is the BOD meeting, in this meeting we will be selecting the new GM 1st. But the board is changing things up a little bit.

On Saturday 07/09/22 we will be holding the GM interviews at 7pm. Members are welcomed to come and listen in to the interviews if they would like. The new GM won’t be announced till the board meeting on Sunday. Players are encouraged to submit questions they have for the GM applicants via email to the player reps. The email for the player reps are evenyearrep@kanar.club and oddyearrep@kanar.club. The player reps will be going through the questions adding them to the list for the board to ask. 6.30 - 2023 Feast Coordinator

Hello everyone!

I, Tashi, am pleased to announce that I have been appointed the 2023 Winter Feast Coordinator. If you have any suggestions or discussion points you would like to bring up please message me. Additional information such as tournaments, venue, cost, date, vendor sign-up, etc. will be announced through the year as it is finalized and approved.

For those who are not aware Winter Feast is an annual event that happens at the start of February. It is hosted at a different venue than the field and is role play centric in a courtly setting. It's primary purpose (so far as I am concerned) is a chance for the membership to get together during the winter break, enjoy food, tournaments, and generally have a good time.

6.28 - Submitting PM Complaints

Hello fellow members. The Playmaster staff would like to remind everyone that your sign out is not the proper way to file a formal complaint to the PM staff. Any complaints submitted via sign outs will be read and documented but will not be treated as formal complaints. The only method to file a formal complaint is to email PM@Kanar.club or BOD@Kanar.club depending on the nature of the complaint. Thank you all and we hope you had a wonderful event.

6.27 - From the GM Team

The GM team wants to take a moment to discuss the Weeklong event. I know we are all still recovering but we want to reach out and thank people who helped make the event run as well as it did.

Thank you to Christian, Josh, Fox, Rob, Brad, Jenna, Rebecca, Michael, Marcus, Melissa, and Kay for either sitting at the shed and running NPC’s, writing up modules, or running said modules. When the GM team was busy you guys had stepped up and helped us out immensely.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to NPC as we really could not have done it without you all. You have helped bring more live to our little city and create stories that can last a lifetime. A special shout out to Atrum and Matt who helped run some early morning NPC’s on their own. Thank you to those that helped clean up throughout the week. It is not the most fun, we know, but it keeps our lands nice. Thank you to the other staff that put in their time throughout the week as well. The amount of communication that was had really kept things going smoothly.

And thanks to everyone that attended and participated throughout the week. It was hot, it was muggy, but in the end we feel it was an enjoyable time. We can’t wait to see you all at the next event! Thank you again!

6.26 - Report of Positive Covid Test

Hello all,

A player who attended the weeklong event has reported to Safety that they tested positive for Covid this morning (Sunday June 26th). Please monitor how you are feeling and take a Covid test if you feel you are experiencing symptoms similar to the cold, the flu, or allergies. Thank you all for a low-injury weeklong!

June Announcements (6.14)

June Event Hype!

As the smoke clears from Fenrest, many people ask what’s next? What has come of the Mer and their invasion? What about their allies? Will this be the end of them or will they regroup and be seen where we least expect them?

And the refugees continue to pour in. Troubles with overpopulation begins to have many asking when is enough enough? More and more unrest begins to be seen in every city. That not including the concern of enough food to feed everyone. And why are there now nobles coming up from the South and checking in? What are their intentions?

And as the spring turns into the summer a tradition familiar to many comes around once again: Agelong. There are many stories of how Agelong has come to be from some saying it was just an old elf wanting to hunt on this night to a blood feud spanning generations. We will see what this seasonal feud brings upon the land.

Find out all this and more during the next event, June 17-26 at 10418 Plank Rd, Milan, MI 48160.

6.14 COVID Policy Update

Due to rising Covid numbers in Monroe and Washtenaw counties and reports of positive Covid tests from multiple players following our last two events, we will be adding a few Covid precautions and requirements to the June event.

We are requiring all players attending to either submit proof of a negative Covid test taken within 24 hours of the event start date (form will open at 5pm Thursday, June 16th) OR wear a mask for the duration of the event. At home covid tests are accepted.

The CDC has advised that those who previously had Covid may have a positive test for up to 90 days after the last date of symptoms. If you recently had Covid and are outside the CDC’s five days from the last day of symptoms but still have a positive test, there will be a spot on the form where you can indicate this, submit proof of the date of your positive Covid test, and explain the situation. We ask that those who submit proof of a negative test mask to their personal safety preferences.

Cabin owners are encouraged to enforce masking and occupancy limitations to their comfort.(cabins, tents, etc)

Hand washing stations will also be set up again. Please make sure we all stay healthy and wash your hands. As always if you feel sick or show any symptoms of covid please stay home and recover.

Please note that we will have a zero tolerance policy for breaking these rules and restrictions. If you have not submitted a negative test or verified that you are outside of the CDC’s 5-day symptom-free quarantine and are found without a mask, you will be escorted from the field of play for the duration of the event.

Free COVID Testing Options: Rite Aid Walgreens CVS

Questions can be sent to safety@kanar.club or BOD@kanar.club

6.12 Econ Update

It's that time already for the monthly update from Econ. The Econ team has finished this month's submissions for the tag turn in. We are not seeing as many players turning in tags as we had projected. We are requesting at this time that all players who are attending the June 10-day with LAST names starting with H, I, J, K and L, to please prepare for turn in.

Please take photos of your tags prior to turn in for your records. You may turn in your tags at anytime the Econ is on duty and may use your photos as proof of your tags during game time to speed up the process of turn in.

We are also requesting to players who have missed their tag turn in date to please turn them in at the next event attended excluding RPO events. We are trying to avoid a mass build up of tags turned in at the end of the season. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in the matter.

6.12 Weeklong Skills Limit

I hope you are all doing well and getting excited for the upcoming weeklong event that is just around the corner!

I am writing to let the membership know that we have heard your voices and after considerations, we have decided to change the limit on the number of skills that can be learned/taught for this upcoming event.

Being that the weeklong event is two events with the week in the middle, it just makes sense that you should be able to learn/teach more skills. That being said, the limit will be changed from 4 skills to 8 skills and a single signout at the end event!

We agree with the membership that this change will create more roleplay situations and give more opportunities for players to create some of their own fun during the long event! So everyone get ready and bring your "A" game!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send us an email at cbm@kanar.club

See you at the event!

6.3 Safety Mid-Season Policy Reminders and Hand Signal Notes

Hello, everyone! It's your friendly neighborhood Safety 1st here with a few quick midseason policy reminders and notes!

Code of Conduct

Please review the Fire Pit and Code of Conduct policies either in the pdfs attached below or as policies 3 and 19 in the KGE policy document.

In Case of Emergency

I will not be at the RPO event, but I live nearby and am available for emergencies throughout the weekend. For true emergencies, call 911 first. I've attached the emergency contact list and I'll have my phone on me at all times.

If you would like to volunteer to be a part of the Sober Staff (responsibilities are responding to situations in the moment and getting either a member of Safety staff or the Board to respond as needed, and making sure the torches are lit along the main trails), please email me at safety@kanar.club.

Hand Signals

With all of the new faces, I would also like to talk a little about some of the unwritten out-of-character hand signals you may come across on the field of play:

The most common signal you'll see is putting your hand over your head to let other players know that you're speaking or moving out of character. This is usually used for NPCs and staff moving as 'wind' across the field or a quick hand on the head to ask for clarification about a skill or spell effect, but it also serve two safety functions. If you are suddenly feeling ill or need to speak to safety staff for any reason, please put your hand on your head and tell someone to get a safety marshal and we'll be to you as quickly as possible. You can also put your hand on your head to remove yourself from a situation or encounter you feel is personally unsafe. You are the best person to know your limits, please larp responsibly.

You may also see some players using a thumbs up/thumbs down signal when roleplay gets particularly intense. This is a system used in many larp communities to check in with another player to see if they're okay, physically, mentally, or emotionally, and we're seeing it more widely used at Kanar. If someone gets your attention and gives you a thumbs up, give them a thumbs down if you need to leave a situation for real-world reasons or a thumbs up if you're just roleplaying really well and the moment is good to continue. You can also put your hand on your head to check in with others during slower moments or catch them in the parking lot afterward.

If you have questions about anything in the post or anything safety related, please email me at safety@kanar.club. I can't believe we're already this far into the season, it's been a pretty great one so far! See you all out there!

Kiri

6.3 Playmaster Arrow Inspection Change

The playmaster staff would like to reach out and give you as much notice as possible of the following. Due to a big Flux in failing arrows during combat a stricter approval process on arrows is going to be used. Arrow heads will not be approved with heads that can fit the eye socket. Shafts will be inspected much closer for any signs of damage and warpage. Heads will be pulled on to see if they will come apart. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes you on behalf of the Play Master staff.

Also I would like to remind everyone of the 4 on 1 rule. " No more than 4 people may attack one person at a time". We have had several situations this season and would like to bring everyones awareness back to the rule.

Thank you all for your support and understanding as we strive together to make our club safe and fun for all.

5.31 - How to Fill Out Your RPOE Signout

Role Play Only Event Signout Screenshot

The June Role Play Only Event (RPOE) is coming June 3-5 and we want to make sure everyone knows how to fill out their signout to get that sweet XP for attending (or having a Tier 2 season pass).

Signouts for RPOE are due on the Wednesday after the event (June 8 for this one) and use the usual signout form. Fill it out as you would for a standard event until you get to the screen shown here.

On this screen, set the "Event Date" response to "June" and set the "How many days of the event did you attend?" response to "Role Play Only Event." This will cause the form to skip over the skills and life credits questions as well as the between event action questions. Fill out the rest of the form and submit.

5.27 - Post-Event May Covid Notice

Good morning, everyone.

A player who attended the May event has reported to staff that they tested positive for Covid after the event. If you also attended the event, please be mindful of your health and any symptoms you may have, and get testing if you feel sick and suspect it may be Covid. Symptoms may take 2-14 days to occur after exposure to the virus. If you test positive, we ask that you consider reporting your results to safety staff so we can better evaluate our Covid precautions and determine if and when changes or additions need to occur.

Stay safe, everyone.

5.26 RP Event Announcement

Hear ye, hear ye!

Let it be known unto all that Ourselves, Baroness Karigan D’Morkishky D’Kalin, will celebrate Our elevation with a noble and festive coronation, to take place in Ilveresh on Saturday the 4th of June, 1022. All heroes of Ilveresh who wish to attend are welcome.

The festivities will include the following:

  • Yard Sale: 12p - 4p
  • Coronation: 2p
  • Fighters Tournaments: 3p - 5p
  • Dinner: 5p
  • Arts & Cooking Tournaments: 6p - 7p
  • Gambling Tournament: 7p - 9p

We request you provide your own feastware, and be sure to withdraw coin from the bank before arriving, in order to participate!

The tournament rules are as follows, and will take place in the following order:

Fighter’s Tournaments: 3p - 5p

Marshal: Sir Eldrid

  • All weapons must be given approval by Sir Eldrid to be used in the tournaments, and armor is not allowed (armor worn doesn’t get counted).
  • Participants can fight in up to 2 fighter’s tournaments. Please see Sir Eldrid prior to 3p to designate which tournaments you’d like to participate in.
  • Rounds will be best 2 out of 3, single elimination.
  • Honor during each fight is expected of all participants. The marshalls overseeing the tournaments have final say on if a strike/stab counts, and the field of honor will have a ‘soft boundary’ that participants must remain within.

King’s Rules for Polearm, Dual Swords, & Sword and Shield:

  • Hits/stabs to the torso/butt is a KO. Loss of both arms, both legs, or one arm and one leg is a KO.
  • A hit/stab to a limb renders the limb a loss. If you lose an arm, everything in that hand must be dropped.
  • If you lose a leg, you must take a knee and cannot knee-walk. The lost leg should be the one with the knee touching the ground so your opponent knows which is which.
  • A lost limb is still counted as being present (but should remain stationary against the side), so a second strike does not go through to the torso. An active block with a lost limb is a KO (swinging/lifting the arm to block, kicking the leg out, etc).
  • Headshots are not a legal striking zone. The first headshot will result in a warning, the second will result in the loss of the round, and the third will disqualify you from the rest of the tournament.

Archery Rules

  • King’s rules, except only a torso/butt shot counts as a KO, no matter how many lost limbs.
  • Arrows are reusable. Audience members can hand out-of-bounds arrows to the tournament marshals, who will toss them centrally between the two fighters. The soft boundary applies to the fighters.
  • If their arm is lost, participants can place their bows on the ground, instead of dropping them.
  • A participant may forfeit the round by placing a hand on their head.

Arts Tournament in Town Center / Anna’s Pavilion: 6p - 7p

Theme: Elegance.

Judges: Baroness Karigan, Lydell, & Kayleth Moon

Art Rules:

  • Ceramics, painting, garments, etc.
  • Art can be submitted anytime on Saturday until 6p. Your art can be picked up from Anna’s Pavilion in the Town Center anytime after 6:30p.
  • Art cannot have been submitted in any tournament previously, however there is no limit to how long ago the art was made.
  • Physical art must be given to Lydell or Kayleth with a note card that has the name of the artist and the name of the piece.
  • Please keep your art immersively appropriate.

Performance Rules:

  • Music, dance, songs, poetry, juggling, etc
  • The sign up sheet will be available in Anna’s Pavilion until 6p Saturday.
  • Performances to start at 6:15p, and must be kept under 2.5 minutes.
  • If you require background music, fairy musicians will be available, but you must either bring your own instruments or send the sheet music to Lydell via letter.
  • Please keep your performance immersively appropriate.

Cooking Tournament, Fruity Desserts: 6p - 7p

Theme: Fruity Desserts

Judges: Baroness Karigan, Kai, & Rhael

Cooking Rules:

  • Competitors must make the entry themselves, and it must follow the theme.
  • At minimum, the equivalent of 12 individual servings needs to be presented. For example, a single standard sized pie or a dozen cupcakes.
  • Entries must be submitted by 6:30p to Gilly Tealeaf, for judging. Do not show the judges your entry!
  • Coconut in any form is not allowed due to allergies.
  • Those wishing for an “edge” should avoid cherries. Some favored flavors are lemon, chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, mint, raspberry, blackberry, & sweet apple.
  • People’s Choice:
    • Competitors who wish to participate in the People’s Choice should make an additional 6-12 servings.
    • Any attendee can pay 3 silver to sample the competitors’ desserts and vote for their favorite.
    • The winner of the People’s Choice will receive the money collected.

Gambling Tournament: 7p - 9p

Marshal: Sir Tralik

Tournament Rules

  • Competitors will form teams of two. Once a pair is entered, partners cannot be changed.
  • Teams will play a round of Euchre in a round-robin style, so that each team plays every team once.
  • Standard Euchre rules apply, including dealing, cutting, calling trump, reneging, etc
  • Within each round, each player will deal twice.
  • At the end of each round, points will be scored and given to Sir Tralik.
  • At the end of the tournament, the team with the most points will win.

Euchre Special Rules

  • ‘Farmers' hands’ are not allowed
    • This is when a player shows they’re in possession of three 9’s and 10’s and exchanges it for the three unexposed cards in the kitty (under where trump is flipped).
  • ‘Screw the dealer’ is in effect
    • This is when a suit / trump is not called, the dealer must pick.
  • ‘Loner hands’ are allowed, but ‘partner’s best’ is not
    • A loner hand is when one partner plays against the other team alone, and their partner places their cards face down.
    • Partner’s best is when the loner takes whichever cards of their partner’s that they’d like.
  • ‘Steal the deal’ is allowed, and counts towards a player’s allotted number of deals.
  • Winning a hand gives your team one point, taking all of the tricks in a hand gives your team two points, a euchre gives your team two points, winning a loner hand gives your team four points.
  • 5 tricks make up a hand. 7 hands make up a round.
  • Cheating will result in the team being disqualified from the tournament.

OOG:

  • The coronation takes place during a RP only event, and as such only players who have attended a standard event and have a character on file are eligible to attend. Be sure to withdrawal coin at the previous event!
  • Financial donations for dinner / drinks can be given to Karigan Nash or Marcus Schwimmer. $10-$15 per person would be extremely helpful.
  • Please bring your own feastware (plate, bowl, cup, cutlery). A vegan and meat option will be available.
  • For the Performance Tournament, Aaron will have a bluetooth speaker available. Please either bring your own device to play the necessary music, or email it to Aaron at aaronskanarmail@gmail.com.
  • For info on the Yard Sale, please see the related article.

5.25 Lost and Found Bin + Wishlist Updates

I found a lot of random items after the event sitting up at check-in, GM shed, and QM shed. I have started a Lost and Found bin for said items and future items. If you are missing anything, please send me a PM to see if it was recovered.

The QM Amazon wish list has been updated. I am prioritizing the Foam-Mo, plastidip, and 2lb Eva foam(not the pressed 4lb mats from the store.) Those items are needed for current projects.

QM1 Daniel Miller

5.24 Between Event Action Update

The GM staff has taken the opportunity to look at a very important aspect of the game, crafting. We want to promote players to gain crafting skills and to use those skills to develop items that can enhance our game. In doing so, we are changing some of the rules for sign outs.

As of this time the GM staff will be allowing you to Craft in addition to the other 5 things you can do (Research/Adventure/Govern/Travel/Nothing). This means that you do not need to utilize the Crafting section in the drop down of your sign out but will need to continue to use the item creation form. We hope that this will encourage those of you with the skills to make your items.

If you have already submitted your sign out to do crafting for the May event and want to resubmit your sign out to do something else, you may do so until the sign out period is done.

Thank you for your time. Any questions feel free to email us at GM@kanar.club

April Announcements (4.20)

4.20 Tag Turn-In and Reprint

Starting this event on Sunday, the gm and Econ team would like players with last names starting with a-c to please turn in their tags so that we may work them into our new process of creating tags. These tags will be archived , some will be renamed to fit the more standard names in our database . Game Master staff will also be auditing tags for Game Master Notation and filing. This is a large scale project and everyone’s cooperation would be greatly appreciated . At the end of this gaming season , tags that were printed previous will no longer be honored . Thank you all for your patience , help and consideration in this large adjustment to our games filing system etc.

Steve Jones, GM1

4.17 New Tag Use Procedure

We have a new procedural way to “use” a consumable tag. Starting this event, if you use a consumable tag such as a potion, scroll, alchemy, poison etc, players will tear the tag in half. players will then hand the other half of the tag to the player in which the spell was cast on. For offensively used consumables , you will tear the tag and hand the other half to the theme marshal at your earliest but timely convenience. Players should monitor each other and make sure that if a consumable is used on you or by you that this procedure is followed.

Steve Jones, GM1

4.4 NPC Assistance

Hello players! I wanted to share with you a troublesome report that was brought to staff attention. We had 118 signouts for March. 107 were physically at the event. Only 48 people did any NPC time at all, including TM/GM staff playing NPCs for their own encounters. The average was 1.8 hours. Our game can’t function if we don’t have people willing to assist . I know we are all there to have fun and I know we are all rusty , but let’s see if we can get those numbers increased next month.

Steve Jones, GM1

3.28 Upcoming Role Play Only Event

We are about a month away from our first Role Play Only Event (ROPE) (Friday 4/29), with a standard event taking place the weekend before (Friday 4/22). Since this is a new event type, I wanted to touch on the most important things / biggest changes for these events, but the best understanding will come from reading the full policy: K1 POL 008.

Please have a government issued ID ready to prove you are over the age of 21. Anyone who cannot provide proof will not be allowed to consume alcohol on KGE property.

Please be respectful and in control of your consumption. Tent City is open and available for out-of-game / modern tent camping. Please be safe and stay the night on the lands.

Safety is looking for volunteers for Sober Safety Staff Members during the RPOE. Please email Safety for more information, at safety@kanar.club.

New players who have not attended a regular event and do not have a character on file with CBM cannot attend RPOE until they have done so.

RPOE tickets are $15 and are included in Tier 2 season passes (not Tier 1). Payment is due by Thursday evening - prepay only.

Combat mechanics / plot / crafting are off / not allowed. Already held coin / tags can be exchanged, but game staff are not on duty and you won't be able to obtain new items or plot information from them. Make sure to stock up during the regular event, the weekend prior!

Skills can be taught and learned, but only in accrued time. They do not become usable skills until they're on your character sheet, which will be after the following regular event's sign-out is completed.

RPOE have unique character sign-out rules, but utilize the same sign-out form. Within the form's "Event Date" section, select "Role Play Only Events". The deadline is the Wednesday following the RPOE.

With a new event type comes unpredictable things, and sometimes the idea of something is not the same as the execution. We ask for patience as staff and players alike become familiar with things, but of course, please communicate with staff via email if you have any questions / concerns before or after the event. Above all, please be respectful of your fellow players and the property we are so fortunate to have at our disposal.

We can't wait to see you out there!

Karigan

Winter Announcements (3.12)

3.12 - Updates to Covid-19 Guidelines

Hello, everyone! Friendly neighborhood Safety 1st here with a quick update to Kanar's Covid-19 event guidelines for the 2022 season.

The State of Michigan has determined that we are entering the recovery phase of the Covid-19 epidemic, which includes updates to masking requirements and guidelines. According to the CDC website, Monroe and Washtenaw counties are both currently considered medium-risk counties and are surrounded by low-risk counties. Following these updates, we are amending KGE's Covid-19 response to the following:

  • Proof of vaccination or negative Covid-19 test are still required to attend KGE events.
  • Masks are no longer required at any time, including for combat NPCs and unvaccinated players. All players are encouraged to mask to their comfort level.
  • Use of KGE's stock costumes are permitted. The use of KGE's shared stock makeup is still considered high-risk for accidental transmission and will not be permitted until Monroe is considered a low-risk county. Players are welcome to bring their own makeup to use for NPCs, but are not permitted to share makeup with other players at this time.
  • Players with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 are not permitted until five days after they are symptom-free and/or test negative for the virus.
  • KGE reserves the right to remove any player under serious suspicion of illness (e.g. excessive/regular fits of coughing, fever, vomiting, etc.).
  • KGE reserves the right to update these rulings as the State and CDC update their guidance and to reinstate masking requirements if the CDC upgrades Monroe to a high-risk county.

If you have any questions, please email me at safety@kanar.club. I hope to see you all this weekend!

Kiri, Safety 1st

3.7 - Payments Reminder

As the March event quickly approaches I wanted to remind everyone that our 2022 season started January 1st, which means the 2022 annual membership dues and 2022 annual registration forms (ARF) need to be paid and signed for the year in order to participate. Without both of these your membership is not considered in good standing / valid. If you're not sure if you have everything set up, feel free to email treasurer@kanar.club and I'm happy to confirm.

Friday March 18th is our first field event of the season. Tickets for the event (and season passes) have been available on the website for several months now. It is, of course, most helpful for check-in if you purchase your tickets several days prior to the event.

Please review our covid policy here

For new players, welcome! The above applies to you as well, but your first standard event is free. The Role Play events are not available to be your first event, so please carefully check the calendar so there isn't a mix up, and feel free to email staff with any questions. Check out this page for more info.

All of us on staff have been saying how excited we are to see everyone and kick off the year. We hope you had a relaxing winter and can't wait for the 18th!

Karigan KGE Treasurer

3.7 - BLD Workday Thank you

I want to send out a huge thank you to everyone who was able to come out to our first BLD workday of the season.

We were able to clear so much trash from the property and start the major project of clearing a lot for our new GSOM Game Operations Area.

Please do not forget to fill out this form so I can get you your well-earned XP

We will be posting more information about future BLD workdays soon.

Yours in volunteerism, Marcus S. BLD 1st

3.2 - Change to Bonus XP Policy

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone had a great winter break and all is well! Here we are, just weeks away from the opening event for the 2022 Kanar Gaming Season! Your CBM team is looking forward to seeing everyone and we can't wait to get out there get some RP on! I am sure it’s going to be a great season!

We have been working on a few new changes over the break, one of which is the “Between Event Bonus XP” policy. After listening to player feedback and crunching some numbers, it was determined that changes were needed.

We think these changes will benefit the club and create more incentive for members to get engaged and give more back to this beloved club. We ask that you please take a moment to look at the attached document to learn more about these changes. And as always, your CBM team is here to help with any questions or concerns.

Also, keep an eye out for the upcoming “Civic” point program that will be introduced later in the season to allow members to really shine for all the time they donate to the club each year.

Be sure to take a moment to look over your character sheet to make sure everything is as it should be and of course send us an email with any questions or issues at cbm@kanar.club. This way we can get you all taken care of prior to the event.

All of that aside, have a great rest of the week and we will see you all on-field!

Your CBM Team

3.2 - BLD Work Day: Season Opener Property Cleanup

Good morning members,

It looks like the weather this Saturday is going to be exceptionally nice for the time of year. This seems like a prime opportunity for the membership to get out and clean up their sites and KGE common areas before the 2022 season opener.

BLD Staff will be on site to direct volunteers if they do not have a personal site to work on or have extra time.

Please post in the comments if you plan to be out. If enough people show interest the BLD 1st will splurge for some hamburgers and hotdogs for everyone for lunch.

Please bring your own water / beverages and any snacks you might need to work through the day. If you own personal work gloves we ask that you bring those as well.

Yours in volunteerism,

Marcus Schwimmer, BLD 1st

3.1 - LARP Items Yard Sale

Hear ye, hear ye!

Springtime brings the return to Festivals in Ilveresh. Let us shed our old attire and breathe life into something new to us!

Bring your federals and negotiation skills on Saturday 3/19/2022. 12pm – 4pm on field, members are welcome to hawk their old garb and accessories for sale or trade, be that in-game (IG) coin or out-of-game (OOG) monies. Choose to set up your wares in Town Center or at your own site, but players must provide their own means of sale; tables, decorum decorations to hide mundane things, price tags (specifying IG or OOG cost), payment methods/arrangements, receipts, if they'll accept haggling, etc.

As a reminder, tags cannot be purchased with OOG money and non-tagged items cannot be stolen IG (that's OOG theft). The focus of this yard sale is for the trade/sale of non-tagged items, in compliance with Game Rules (like how real weapons are not allowed on field at any time, etc), that are directly related to fantasy/medieval LARPing. Tagged items can of course already be bought/sold IG for coin at any time. It is up to the buyer and seller to come to an agreement on OOG payment, whether that is cash or electronic payment later that evening / after the event, and if the item will be held until payment is received, etc. As a reminder, the IG term “federals” refers to cash/USD and we’ll be using the term “payspell” to reference electronic payments and ""non-certified"" to reference non-tagged items.

These Yard Sales will be repeating events on the following Saturdays, 12pm-4pm: Regular Event 3/19, RP Event 4/30, RP Event 6/3, and RP Event 10/1.

If you'd like to share what you're bringing ahead of time, feel free to post within this announcement comment thread.

If you have any questions, please contact Anna or Karigan! We can’t wait to see what everyone brings.

3.1 - Town Hall Meeting

Hello everyone,

I know we are all looking forward to the new start of the Larp season! As we all start to get ready for this next season, the player reps would like to meet with everyone to answer any questions you may have from the winter BOD meetings and get a chance to talk you all of you. The town hall meeting will take place March 16th at 8pm. We look forward to talking to everyone and getting everyone one pumped for this upcoming season.

Thank you,

Odd Year Rep & Even Year Rep

2.18 - GM Seeks Theme & Story Assistance

2.8 - BLD Announcement for Site Caretakers

We would like to make an announcement that we're extending the Site Update Form submission to February 28th. We implore all current site caretakers to email us their yearly form at bld@kanar.club.

Thank you! -Holly

1.24 - QM Announcement

Hello everyone! I can't express how excited I am to be taking over the QM1 position! For those of you who weren't able to make it to the B.O.D meeting, my goals are to help turn the QM position into a GM assistant position/costume department with a member of staff in rotation helping npcs prepare for modules to create a more indepth atmosphere.

To do this we will need tons of help which means QM work days and EXP for assisting! :) We also need some crafting experts who are willing to share some of their tricks of the trade. If you have any experience in prop making, costuming, sewing, face painting/makeup, resin casting, leather working, 3d printing, etc please email me your resume with photos (costumes, props, past commissions, etc) and we can set up a time for an interview.

P.S. If you have any questions about the position, feel free to message me on FB. All resumes and photos for QM applications should be sent to qm@kanar.club.

Thank you,

Daniel Miller, Quartermaster 1

1.14 - Staff Wishlists

The new year means new opportunities to earn bonus XP for donating time and items to the game. To make it easier, each of the staffs has an Amazon wishlist of things they may need. Some have more needs than others, but any contribution make our game better.

Want to donate time instead of items? Keep an eye out for work days throughout the year or reach out to the firsts to ask how you can help.

1.4 - 2022 Site Caretaker

Hello KGE Family,

The BLD has sent out Caretaker Forms to anyone who was previously listed as a site caretaker. If you believe yourself to be one of these caretakers, we ask that you check your email and fill out the form by February 1st, 2021. After this date, any unclaimed sites will become open for the BLD to find new Caretakers for. If you have not received an email and you believe you should have, please feel free to email us at bld@kanar.club.

The form is provided here and linked in the emails through Google Docs, and you can submit it back to us in two ways. Print it, fill it out physically, and scan it back onto your computer or take a photo. Then attach that to your email. Open the document and fill it out electronically. It is an interactive PDF.

Thank you so much for your time, and we hope you have a wonderful season.

KGE BLD

12.30 - Winter Feast

Good morning Kanarbees,

In lieu of the cancellation of feast, the game masters thought we could make some considerations. If you have a group of people ( no more than ten) that you would like to gather up to have a one-day “feast”, please email the gm staff to get a one-day approval. A few mandatory terms will need to be met to be approved for a one-day. GM staff will need a point of contact for the feast, the person “in charge“ of said feast will need to submit an after-action report of said feast including a list of the up to ten members who attended. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Game Master staff at gm@kanar.club. Thank you and happy holidays!

-Steve Jones, Game Master

12.9 - Econ / GM

Hi guys! Currently some changes are being made to our game economics as well as the economics position, while in this transition period some time frames may be slowed in the process. We appreciate your patience!!

GM 1st - Steve J.

11.27 - Econ / PM Seeking Crafting Recipies

If you have any crafting recipes that are not in the crafting packets to submit them to the playmaster staff so they can be processed and considered for inclusion in the crafting packets.

May Announcements

5.15 - Econ Annoucement Tag Pick Up, Coin Drop Off, and New Players

Hello Members of KGE and Players of K1,

The Economics team wants to reach out to remind you that we will be doing coin turn-in day this Saturday from 11AM - 6PM, and we will have players Gift Bags and Tags! If you have been wanting to get ahold of tags you collected during an event or crafted all year this is a chance to pick them up.

This coin pick-up will be important, as it has been decided that we will not be allowing players to place their banks into the negative anymore, starting in June. If you try to buy an item or skill in town and your player bank is negative you will be denied skills learned in town or items that you buy during online events and craft between events. We will try to have another coin drop-off day between the May and June event.

When Filling out the Coin Transfers during the event it is important that we get as much information as we can. Players and Staff, when giving out coin please include details on what you buy, who you are giving money to, and why. It is also important to write out player names and their character names, as this will make sure players get the coin that they need.

Many of our new players from the start of 2020 to present have not had a chance to go through our new player experience with the Economics Marshals. Because of this, many of the players missed out on buying items in town, but some even missed out on getting the starting 50 silver coin to buy said items. If you are a new player and have not received your starting coin, please fill out the Item Creation/ Tag Submission form and select “I'm not making a tag, I am a new player requesting their starting coin.” This way you can get your starting coin until we are able to have live events.

Please remember, if you have any issues with player banks or tags to reach out to the Economics team via econ@kanar.club so we can quickly solve any issues or problems that you have without having to go to other staff channels.

Thanks everyone for being patient with K1 staff while we all deal with this pandemic.

Matthew Schaar

5.13 - The Mystic Quill Needs You!

Good day friends!

It’s your Mystic Quill back at it again calling for your creativity. Do you have a story your character wants to share? Perhaps a help wanted ad, an announcement, a poem or recipe that would delight readers? Or are you artistic and want to share a Kanar themed comic, drawing or photograph? Well now is your opportunity! The Quill is accepting all of these and more for the upcoming editions. There is a deadline so act fast! The Quill accepts articles up until this Monday May 17th.

Are you fretting because you have the desire to write but haven’t the idea where to start? Well never fear, we have a wonderful instructional guide found at Kanar.club under the downloads tab. Scroll down till you find the tab “How to Write a MQ Article” and click on it. At any time you may email the Mystic Quill at quill@kanar.club for any further questions or simply to submit an article. Thank you for your submissions.

Sincerely,

Your Mystic Quill Editor

5.12 - April Event Character Sheets Update Completed

We just wanted to let everyone know that your character sheet updates for the April Digital Event, are now complete! As always, if you find an issue or concern, please reach out to us at CBM@kanar.club and I am sure we can get you squared away!

Thank you for your patience and see you at the next game!

Your CBM Team!

5.7 - Tag-pickup

Hello members of KGE and players of K1,

The members of the Economic Marshal Staff would like to inform you that we will be doing a tag pick up and coin turn-in on May 15, from 11am to 6pm, pending weather. There you can ask Econ basic questions, pick up gift bags and tags, and drop off coins to be added to your accounts. Please keep in mind that you may have tags to turn in or pick up as well from creating or using items during an online event. Please make sure to bring them with you.

We still continue to follow all CDC and State of Michigan guidelines for safety. I will be on-field near the center of town in a white Ford Explorer, which should be parked in front of Gnip Gnop Building or behind it in Fort Vinterhjem.

Matthew Schaar, Econ 1st

5.4 - BLD Donations Needed

We, the BLD, are going to be renting a skid steer/getting gravel to spread on the trails to make them dry, flat, and even to improve safety. As an added bonus this will also stop boots from being sucked into the swamp for all eternity and keep our garb less mud coated. Now would be a GREAT time for CASH donations to the BLD so we can get this project done before we go back to live events.

We would also like to remind everyone that you get 1XP for every $2 donated and that XP can be given to anyone, including your own character. There is a limit of 100XP PER PERSON for BLD but the XP can be spread out in anyway you choose. (Example. If someone donates $300 they have 150xp to give out to any player they choose, i.e 100 xp to their own character and 25xp to two besties, etc).

Go to the BLD Resources Page to donate!!

Thanks for your help making our trails and houses dry and safe!

Beware of Ticks!

This past weekend a number of groups were out working on their sites . This is amazing and exactly what the Building and Land Department loves to see.

We have also received some reports of people finding ticks on themselves or their clothing. It seems like we are going to have a bumper crop of ticks this year and the last thing we want is anyone getting sick (even if you get a tick latched on to you the chances of catching a disease is small if you act quickly and correctly).

Here is a video of how and were you should check yourself for ticks while on field and when you get home. Please do not remove ticks if you do not know how to do such.

Thank you in the continued effort to keep our membership safe. Marcus, BLD 1st.

5.1 - New Rule Book and PM Annoucements

This past BOD meeting a new Rule Book was passed. A list of changes and clarifications from the Clarification Log were implemented. The newly appointed Play Master 1st, Jeremiah Klabis, would like to inform members that a player survey will be released soon about the Rule Book and its changes. The Playmaster staff will be giving 6 PM XP to every player who submits the Playmaster Player Survey! Be on the lookout for the survey soon, in the meantime please familiarize yourself with the new rulebook.

4.30 - Item Creation / Tag Submission

Dear Members of K1,

It came to the Economics Marshals team's attention that some players are using saved url links to an old Item Creation / Tag Submission form that they have saved before my time as Economic Marshal, and have been submitting tag and coin requests. That form is no longer in use or ownership by the K1 Econ team. The most updated link is on the kanar.club website and should have a light blue background. If you have been submitting a request for items using the old form, please resubmit your item/coin request with it noted which event you were crafting between. If you have any more questions please reach out to econ@kanar.club.

Thank you,

Matthew Schaar

Coin Drop Off and Feast Package Pick Up

Coin Drop Off and Feast Package Pick Up

It's less than six weeks until the KANAR 2021 season is here. We on the Economics Team are hard at work getting ready for not only the Discord events, but hopefully getting back to having events on the field.

A lot happened in 2020. While our members dealt with the end of 2020 into the 2021 year after our November event, Econ continued to be hard at work making sure we are ready for you in the March event. Coins are being cleaned, tags are printed and ready for pick up, and we are always ready to serve our members with Econ questions and needs.

We have been hard at work on a few projects, and are excited to be able to show them off in the near future. For example, we have a player Asset List and a player Bank Ledger, which we are excited to show everyone. While there will be more work that needs to be done throughout the year we are looking forward to getting these projects to you as soon as possible.

Coin drop off and Feast package pick up.

With the game still restricted to Discord events we plan on having Coin & Tag pick up and drop off dates. We hope people will be willing to drop off their coin during these dates throughout the year before live events resume. We are hoping to collect as much of the coin back as possible so we have a chance to clean all the coins, as a way to make it safe for when we return to live events.

We are going to take it slow and safe. The first drop off date will be on March 6th, from 11am to 6 pm est, in the property driveway at 10418 Plank Road Milan, MI, 48160, weather permitting.

We will be having a used tags drop off as well. You can set up an appointment with econ at econ@kanar.club

The following one will be on March 13th from 11am to 6pm at the same location, weather permitting.

If for some reason we can't meet on the field we will be at the Love’s gas station at 14137 Plank Road, Milan, MI 48160. An update will be posted if changed to this location.

This will be only for Coin drop off and Feast gift bags pick up, as we test Econ Covid Guidelines to ensure safety for both staff and members alike. More details will be added to the calendar later.

Just as a reminder for players for a few things for 2021.

Firstly, when you're using coins during an event you are spending your real coin that we will pull from your bank. This includes when you are crafting an item when you don't have the material tags.

If you were or are using one-use items like potions or alchemy's, those items are to be considered used and should be put aside until you're able to turn them in to Econ. Also keep in mind that tags no longer expire unless they are plot items. They will need to be approved with a signature from the Econ First but will be given back to you.

If you are crafting, please keep in mind that if you're using crafting materials for the items we will need to have materials turned in before you can get said tags. If for some reason a materials tag or item is lost we will work with you, within reason, so you can get your tag. This also goes for when breaking an item down for materials and learning new recipes.

If you have tags that need to get to players, you're more than welcome to leave them with Econ, and they will be put into the Player Bank folder of said player with an email to let them know that we have the tag.

Covid Crafting Update

Hi there kanar crafters!

Some of you may have noticed a lack of withdraws in your personal coin banks for crafting costs and Econ staff wanted to give you an update in regards to that.

As of right now, all the printing has been on hold since the March event. Your tags will still be printed, and crafting is still allowed in conjunction with any approved events, but right now printing and charging for crafting is on hold until we are able to safely meet in person again.

Once our in-person events start back up again we will print all backlogged tags and charge you your crafting costs.

Now, a benefit of this and the reason we chose to do it this way is that all those backlogged tags will have extended expiration dates that will be set to when they get printed instead of when the item was crafted, so you aren't losing months on tags you physically can not use.

If you have any questions about the above info please feel free to email the econ staff at econ@kanar.club

Stay safe and healthy!
Economics staff.

November Announcements

Economics Announcements

Some things to keep in mind for over the winter crafting!

  1. There are 20 crafting weeks over the winter. It is your responsibility to fill out the item creation form for your craft to reflect this.

  2. If you are CRAFTING FOR COIN, you still need to fill out the item creation form. There is an option on it for crafting for coin-this sends econ staff all the info we need to get your deposit in.

  3. If you are not sure of how many of something you can make, check the crafting packet related to your craft. That info is there.

  4. Please READ the item creation form. I realize some sections have a lot of text, but a lot of questions I get are explained in that text already.

  5. If you have questions about anything on the item creation form please email Econ@kanar.club with the question instead of guessing or saying "however many I can make."

GM Announcement

The GM 1st will not be out until Saturday around 3-ish. If you have a non-combative role playing encounter, that can be run anytime during the event and will not prevent your PC from going on field. If it is, a combative encounter then the GM staff would like this resolved before your PC goes on field. The GM 2nd will be out Friday but there are a few of you that the GM 1st will need you to wait until I get there. Thank you.

Econ Announcement

The Econ department has created a new Item Creation Form to replace the old one. This new form is more user-friendly to crafters and don’t forget you need to fill it out even if all you want to make between events is coin! Please use the new form as the old one will soon be archived and no longer accepting submissions.

CBM Announcements

Updates will be completed before Friday of the event (hopefully they will all be completed tonight). We do not need constant reminders regarding when the event is, that you haven’t received your update yet, that something didn’t get applied to your update which you felt should have but have yet to receive any reason as to why, etc. PLEASE WAIT until we say they are done (we will post in this group when they have been completed), Read the email you receive, and then you can ask questions via email and we will eventually get back to you about them.

We are sorry that this is taking longer than most appear to like, but this event and last event have had their own issues and process updates across multiple staff groups which have aided in causing delays. We are working on updating a lot of things, but it will all get done when it is supposed to be completed by. Thank you for your potentially renewed patience.

Work/Donation Bonus XP - FYI

Hello Everyone! I know you all love hearing from me, so here is another "little" update from staff about some Bonus XP opportunities and how you may claim your earnings. Yay!

The various staff groups are able to award Between Event Bonus XP for various purposes such as taking part in workdays for the BLD, donating money to the QM, writing encounters for the GM, taking part in the various rules committees for PMs, walking down Plank Road and picking up trash for Adopt-A-Road, etc. Occasionally you will see workday or donation requests on this Facebook group... that is what they are offering in exchange! More XP! Wooooo!

If you find yourself wanting to take part in these things in an effort to earn more xp so your character can get xp swole, look out for those announcements.

After you complete between event tasks for staff:

  1. Go to the kanar.club website

  2. Hover over the [Events] menu dropdown

  3. Fill out the "Between Events Staff XP Form".

As long as the deadlines are followed, this Bonus XP will get added at the same time as that month's character updates are being processed (provided everything goes as planned).

XP submission deadlines are the same dates as character signout deadlines, so the earlier you claim your efforts the better.

Feel free to ask questions if you have them. Ooh De Lally!

Various CBM Reminder to Players

TLDR before the body: Check your signout responses before clicking next/submit. Please.

  • If you do not meet all of the event requirements prior to their deadlines then you will not get NPC XP, you will not be able to learn new skills, and skills you taught at the event will not be granted to the characters you taught them to. The following are your requirements:

    • Pay your membership fee before you step onto the field

      • This only needs to be done one time per year

    • Fill out your ARF before you step onto the field

      • This only needs to be done one time per year

    • Pay the event fee before you step onto the field

    • Sign in at the event before you step onto the field

    • Submit your signout within 8 days after the event.

    • (The first three things are supposed to be done before you go on the field, but that deadline generally gets flexed to match the signout deadline)

  • When completing your signout - Do not give us nicknames for characters when saying who you taught things to or who taught things to you. You must provide the players, or characters, real name (both would even be appreciated and might help you unexpectedly). CBM staff checks references while completing updates; we will not do extensive research in an effort to find people or understand who someone might be talking about. Find out your teachers/students name and ask them how to spell it.

    • If you provide shortened names or nicknames that haven’t been approved/discussed between the player and CBM staff, then skills might be denied. If a characters name is Beeblebroxpuffsalot and that is the name on their character file, but everyone calls them Sam, then we better see beeblebroxpuffsalot as the teacher/student, unless they had a discussion with the CBM to change the reference name on their file. If you have a long or strange spelled name that people don’t call you (and you don’t understand what I am saying here), then you should send an email to kgecbd@gmail.com so that we can try to talk it out.

    • This might require you to have an out-of-game discussion with players, or it might require you to write things down. Both would be beneficial to you.

    • If you misspell your real or character name on your own signout, your update might get overlooked… and that might cause you to miss out on learning/teaching skills and other fun things. Pay attention to what you are doing and double check your answers.

    • Please do not assume that we know who you might be talking about based on what someone looks like, what their name kinda sounds like, etc. We need their name (not the nickname you tend to call them or a description of what they look like).

    • If you trust yourself to remember something, but then forget it - you are putting the possibility of not getting what you want on your update in the hands of you remembering things. Help us help you. Write things down so you don’t forget.

  • When completing your signout - If you teach or learn a skill then you myst provide the skill name as it appears in the Rulebook. If skill names do not match, characters might be denied skills. Also, be sure to include specialization names with skills that should have specializations. Again, CBM staff checks references while completing updates; we are not going to do extensive research in an effort to find people or understand things which should be explicitly written.

    • “Short Weapons Group/Small Weapons Group” is not a skill.

    • “Skinning” is not a skill.

    • “Wizard Spells” is not a skill.

    • “Healing magic” is not a skill.

    • “Resist Toxin” is not a skill.

    • “Read/Write” is not a skill by itself. This must have a language type specialization associated to it, such as “Read/Write (Common)” or “Read/Write (Forest Elven)”.

    • “Disguise” is not a skill by itself. “Craft (Disguise)” is the skill name which must also include a level which was taught/learned. The same goes for all other crafts, trade skills, and spell slot levels.

    • “First level spell slots”, “first circle spells”, and “first tier spells” are not skills. You must name the type of slots (Fire-air, earth-water, or bardic) and the level of the slot, and the number of slots you are trying to purchase (x1, x2, x17, etc).

  • You cannot train someone in a skill that they do not already have the pre-reqs listed on their character sheet for. You may not “store an advanced skill teaching” for a rainy day after you decide to pickup the pre-reqs … As a skill teacher, you might have to ask “do you already know the basics of X”, or as the student you might have to ask “is there anything I should know or focus on prior to learning this.”

    • You cannot train someone to deathstrike if they do not already have the Add Dmg +4 skill on their character sheet

    • You cannot train someone the Basic Enchantment Level 3 skill if they do not already have Basic Enchantment Level 2 skill on their character sheet

    • You cannot train someone Potion Making 1 unless they already have Herbalism 1, Flora Lore, Alchemy 1, Math, and Read/Write (*whatever*) skills on their character sheet

    • You cannot teach someone the Resurrection Ceremony if they do not have a 9th level E/W spell slot and/or three years have not already passed since you were taught the ceremony (or since you last taught someone else the ceremony).

      • If you finished learning/teaching this ceremony in November of 2018, you can’t start teaching it until March of 2022 (provided the last event of the year is November and the first event of the year is march) and your new student won’t be able to use it until after they have trained on-field for 6 events with you and it is added to their character sheet (at BEST, that would be September of 2022). They (nor you) will be able to teach it until three years after that have passed (you may both start teaching again in September of 2025). If you are currently training for the Rez ceremony, please email the CBMs because your teacher has possibly missed a vital step in the process and we need to make sure to work out those kinks immediately so that you do not suffer.

    • You cannot learn a lore specialization prior to learning the base lore first. If you want “terrain lore (forest)” then you must have “terrain lore” on your sheet first.

  • Do not submit multiple signouts. Check the work on your signouts and then click next/submit. If you discover you made a mistake after you submitted your signout, send an email to the CBMs.

    • If you accidentally make a mistake, we will do what we can to help you and let you know what needs to happen in the future. Please email us follow-up questions if you have any.

    • Read the questions, read the descriptions under the questions, think of an appropriate response and then fill out the form.

    • Multiple signouts clog the gears, skew event stats, and cause confusion if we are not aware of their coming. Ask before you do it.

    • If you have questions about the signout, ask the CBM staff. Don’t know what should go where? Email the cbms. Get confused easily by the form? Email the cbms. Do it before the deadlines and you will be a much happier player.

We try to answer questions promptly. We try to work with people the best we can. We try to be nice and accommodating and super cool people, but every mistake adds extra time to our process and it starts to hurt the soul when we would like to play outside but we get stuck inside doing homework. Don’t make this into a Rudolph and Olive (the other reindeer) situation. Be the Santa. 😀

One Love,
-DW

Staff Announcements & Notes

NOTE: This post will be updated as announcements come in, it is recommended to check back once again shortly before the May event.

From the Coporate Secretary

Attention Members!

Due to the damage that has been done to the trails by vehicles driving onto the lands, the KGE Board of Directors have declared that there is to be ABSOLUTELY NO DRIVING on the field of play until approval has been given by the BoD. Please assist our community in keeping the trails safe and usable for our events and the events of others.

Thank you,
Jacob Smith
KGE Corporate Secretary

Hello everyone,

Your KGE Corporate Secretary is here hoping everyone had a great event weekend and coming to you with a quick reminder:

The next Board of Directors meeting is in approximately two weeks, on Sunday, April 28th at 1pm. It will be located at our usual venue, the Pittsfield Township offices. The address for the meeting is located on the meeting's event page. Submissions for the meeting's agenda are due at the end of this week, on Sunday, April 21st. If you have something you would like to submit, please send it to either secretary@kanar.club or bod@kanar.club before the deadline.

Thank you and happy adventuring,

Jacob Smith
Corporate Secretary

From the Building and Land Department:

There is currently a 20 yard dumpster near the QM Shed. The Staff are using it to dispose of refuse from the Supply Depot, to start converting that area to additional camping space and eventual camper / fifth wheel parking.

However, there is an issue with the size of the pallets, and the internal volume of the dumpster.

We have too many pallets, and they take up too much space.

THUS, the building and land department is offering a 10xp bounty for members that are willing to break down 10 pallets, and toss the pieces into the dumpster. This bounty will be awarded when accompanied by a picture of the ten pallets before breaking down, and a picture of the ten pallets in pieces, post-destruction.

Zach and Craig moved about 30 pallets into the parking lot, beside the dumpster, to start the process.

From the CBM

As a reminder, we are not sending out individual update emails each month - you will only get an email if you submitted a signout for a new or previously unconverted character; if there were issues with your signout that we needed to make you aware of (i.e. you weren’t approved for an update, we couldn’t grant a skill, etc.); or if you left a comment or question in the CBM Comments section of the signout that we needed to address.

Lastly, if you are a new player planning to come out to the next event, we would love to get your character sheet created prior to the event so it saves us both time at the event. Please email us at kgecbd@gmail.com and give us your character deets and let us know if you have any questions!

From the GM

Kanar Rule Book – version 3/2019 – page 24 – Status Effects Chart;

Stunned: Target cannot see, hear, or take any action.  If they are not already laying down, the target must immediately fall to the ground.  They may groan in pain while falling.  This status will immediately end if the target receives any damage or is shaken by another character.  Deathblows may be administered to the target.

Kanar Rule Book – version 3/2019 – page 20 – Armor Locations;

A suit of armor is divided into 7 locations: 2 legs, 2 arms, front torso, rear torso, and head.  Armor points are given based on the number of locations armored.

  • Leather Armor : 5AP/location

  • Composite Armor : 10AP/location

  • Chain/Scale Armor : 15AP/location

  • Plate Armor : 20AP/location

Rulebook - under Armor Move

If at any point, a character’s armor is reduced to 0, the armor is considered destroyed and can no longer be repaired.  Please role play changing armor and turn in your tags as necessary.

Theme Marshals versus Encounter Marshals

Announcement: The GM staff has changed over staff from Theme Marshals to Encounter Marshals.  Why you might ask?  Theme Marshals often perform their duties autonomously and without the knowledge of the GM staff prior to a module only to hopefully turn in a report after the fact. Encounter Marshals are expected to prearrange and preapprove all encounters before they go out.  This way the GM staff can organize the event schedule, plan for NPC staff needed, prep as needed, hand out possible cross module information and generally run an event.  This means a lot more work on the front side of the event but we (the GM staff) feel this is for the betterment of the story.  Thank you all during this time of adjustment.

Pre-Season Announcements

From Economics Staff

The econ staff is posting to allow all players to be aware they have until the end of the weeklong event to collect their tags from 2018 and earlier or they will become absorbed back into the economics binders for redistribution. The econ folders are overrun with unclaimed tags for players.

Additionally with the updated rulebook comes updated Econ packets.

From the CBM Staff

With all the changes to the rules, character sheets and general policies that has happened recently. Please make sure to review this document to ensure you receive your character updates in a timely manner this year. It’s all the same information as before, just compressed into an easy to read format.

From the GM Staff

Screen Shot 2019-03-07 at 9.39.10 AM.png
  1. The ground has many frozen over gofer burls and so wear ankle support as the ground feels like walking on popcorn. Ice warning. Foot attire at cold events is vital.  No one will fault you for your non period winter hikers.

  2. This is the first event & it WILL BE cold!  Gage your shots accordingly.  Check your weapons often,  Cold makes the padding hard and the Duct tape extra sharp.  Please be safe this weekend.

From the Safety Staff

A note about safety from your friendly neighborhood safety staff. It is cold out that being said be sure to dress in multiple layers to avoid overexposure to the cold. Hydration is as important to avoid hypothermia as it is to avoid heat stroke so drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the event and while at play. If you get so cold you no longer shiver this is something to be concerned about as it indicates your body is shutting down. Steps needed to recover include but are not limited to remove yourself from the cold environment warm your core body first then your extremities and again hydrate. To all that will be out this event play, safe watch your swings your weapons will hurt more in the cold and remember to have fun!!!!!!

From the BLD Staff

Hello club members,

The Building and Land Staff would like to remind everyone that Ordu Towers, the Tree Fort, Rath’s Building Site and Hawkstone’s tower will be roped off with pink tape this event for safety reasons. Do not enter any of these spaces.

The trails are very icy so make sure you have a good footing while walking. We also have some large areas of “popcorn ground”. This is ground that looks solid but will sink your foot a few inches. Great way to hurt an ankle. We know everyone is excited to get on field and swing some weapons but please make sure the area you are fighting on is safe.

If at any point you think an area of field is unsafe for play please find a member of safety or BLD staff and let them know.

It looks like we are going to have a large number of new players attending this event so park smart. Anyone taking up more than one parking spot will be asked to move their vehicle. Many of our orange parking markers fell over this winter and the ground is so frozen we can’t put them back in so use your best judgment.

All of the firepits were raked at the past BLD workday so please get those fires going and stay warm. We hope everyone has an amazing event.

From the PM Staff

Over the last year, the rulebook committee has been working to update Kanar’s rulebook. At the January board of directors meeting, the BOD approved a new edition to the rulebook. Since then, we have worked closely with the character book marshal staff to make a clean transition for the players. The changes will be in effect at the March event, so please take the time to review these changes as they may have effected your character. The playmaster staff will be present at the event to answer any lingering questions.

You can always download the most recent copy of our rulebook on the kanar.club website; kanar.club/downloads.

We also have a clarification page listing all clarifications we’ve made to the book which can also be found on the downloads page of the website listed above under “rulebook clarifications.”

Also, as always we encourage constructive feedback or questions regarding the rulebook. If you have either, please don’t hesitate to contact us via our playmaster form.

Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you this weekend!

From the GM & Economics Marshal

Game Master

Please remember to fill out a KGE Inc. Annual Registration Form (ARF) on line for the 2018 season.  It is important that you include your legal First Name, Last Name & Middle Initial as we use this to identify your personal character files. The ARF is also used by KGE Inc. to provide us with the insurance coverage for the group.  To those caught in non-compliance with this rule, you will be asked to leave the field and may suffer disciplinary actions as this violation may hold the club liable.

I would like to take a moment to thank all of you who submitted a resume to the GM 1st for the position of Econ 1st.  After consideration I have chosen Jeremiah Klabis to be the new Econ 1st.  Jeremiah has been performing the task as part of the previous Econ staff and is well suited to take the position over with the minimal amount of transitional period stoppages.  I would also like to thank Kevin Reading and Joe Brescol for stepping up while we were in transition and assisting the staff to maintain the level of service to our customers. In addition we have added Ferd Blackburn to the Econ staff and are still seeking others to help with the position. If interested, please seek out Jeremiah and talk to him. We on the GM staff and its subordinate staff find that face to face conversations yield the best results as communication is key to the success of Kanar.

Thank you,
Tim Schafer - GM 1st

Economics & GM

Economics Marshal

Reminder that players may make one withdrawal from, and one deposit to their Player Bank every event. Eligible players may also make one withdrawal from, and one deposit to a Group or Unit Fund every event.

A friendly reminder from your economic staff. Please check your tag expiration dates regularly. After a tag is expired please turn it in. Using expired tags on the field is cheating. A note on Legacy tags. A legacy tag is a consumable tag that does not have an expiration date. These tags will be honored until they are used. After used they need to be turned in and they will be taken out of circulation.
