May Event Details

May Event Details

Hello everyone!

We hope that you will join us for our event this weekend May 21st - 23rd.

Since it’s so early in the season, I would like to remind you that you must fill out the 2021 Annual Registration Form (ARF) and pay your membership dues in addition to the event fee before attending the event.

Some things are a little different this month!

During this event, teaching and learning skills can only be done in the Rising Raven Academy room, which is designated for skill learning.

In addition, a “help wanted” board has been added! If you are a fan of combat and adventuring, you can go to the “help wanted” board in town to participate in modules. Please make sure you and your group sign up for the modules you want to participate in ahead of time! Need a group? There’s now a room in the Out of Game area specifically for group gathering!

Please see the module schedule below under “Can I Do Modules?” to see what will be available when!

Finally, we have updated the rules and etiquette guide. When you log on, please pay extra attention to the rules this month as things have changed slightly.

We hope to see you there!

  • The event will start Friday, May 21st at 5 pm, and will end on Sunday, May 23rd at 5 pm.

Please rest assured that we are all working diligently on this, and we will get to you as quickly as we can.
  • Due to COVID-19, we are not taking any cash or check payments at this time.

How do I get XP?

Live Events?

5.7 - Live Events?

Hello everyone,

I want to take a second and thank everyone who filled out the last covid survey. After monitoring our numbers and discussing with the safety staff it was determined we didn’t quite have enough at the time. Now that the vaccine has been opened to the general population for more then a month, we want to know where our club is at with the vaccinations once again. This survey is anonymous and having the numbers will help the board evaluate the safety of returning to live events. Now that the state of Michigan is starting to change its restrictions I am asking for you all to fill this survey out one more time and I thank you all for your understanding.

Thank you.

4.7 - Live Events?

Hello everyone,

As some of you already know the board is planning on having a meeting at the end of April to evaluate whether we can have live events. We have been monitoring our numbers and discussing the safety of our players. Now that the vaccine has been opened to the general population, we want to know where our club is at with the vaccinations. This survey is anonymous, but having the numbers will help the board evaluate the safety of returning to live events.

Thank you.

5.15 - Econ Annoucement Tag Pick Up, Coin Drop Off, and New Players

Hello Members of KGE and Players of K1,

The Economics team wants to reach out to remind you that we will be doing coin turn-in day this Saturday from 11AM - 6PM, and we will have players Gift Bags and Tags! If you have been wanting to get ahold of tags you collected during an event or crafted all year this is a chance to pick them up.

This coin pick-up will be important, as it has been decided that we will not be allowing players to place their banks into the negative anymore, starting in June. If you try to buy an item or skill in town and your player bank is negative you will be denied skills learned in town or items that you buy during online events and craft between events. We will try to have another coin drop-off day between the May and June event.

When Filling out the Coin Transfers during the event it is important that we get as much information as we can. Players and Staff, when giving out coin please include details on what you buy, who you are giving money to, and why. It is also important to write out player names and their character names, as this will make sure players get the coin that they need.

Many of our new players from the start of 2020 to present have not had a chance to go through our new player experience with the Economics Marshals. Because of this, many of the players missed out on buying items in town, but some even missed out on getting the starting 50 silver coin to buy said items. If you are a new player and have not received your starting coin, please fill out the Item Creation/ Tag Submission form and select “I'm not making a tag, I am a new player requesting their starting coin.” This way you can get your starting coin until we are able to have live events.

Please remember, if you have any issues with player banks or tags to reach out to the Economics team via econ@kanar.club so we can quickly solve any issues or problems that you have without having to go to other staff channels.

Thanks everyone for being patient with K1 staff while we all deal with this pandemic.

Matthew Schaar

5.7 - Tag-pickup

Hello members of KGE and players of K1,

The members of the Economic Marshal Staff would like to inform you that we will be doing a tag pick up and coin turn-in on May 15, from 11am to 6pm, pending weather. There you can ask Econ basic questions, pick up gift bags and tags, and drop off coins to be added to your accounts. Please keep in mind that you may have tags to turn in or pick up as well from creating or using items during an online event. Please make sure to bring them with you.

We still continue to follow all CDC and State of Michigan guidelines for safety. I will be on-field near the center of town in a white Ford Explorer, which should be parked in front of Gnip Gnop Building or behind it in Fort Vinterhjem.

Matthew Schaar, Econ 1st

5.4 - BLD Donations Needed

We, the BLD, are going to be renting a skid steer/getting gravel to spread on the trails to make them dry, flat, and even to improve safety. As an added bonus this will also stop boots from being sucked into the swamp for all eternity and keep our garb less mud coated. Now would be a GREAT time for CASH donations to the BLD so we can get this project done before we go back to live events.

We would also like to remind everyone that you get 1XP for every $2 donated and that XP can be given to anyone, including your own character. There is a limit of 100XP PER PERSON for BLD but the XP can be spread out in anyway you choose. (Example. If someone donates $300 they have 150xp to give out to any player they choose, i.e 100 xp to their own character and 25xp to two besties, etc).

Go to the BLD Resources Page to donate!!

Thanks for your help making our trails and houses dry and safe!

Beware of Ticks!

This past weekend a number of groups were out working on their sites . This is amazing and exactly what the Building and Land Department loves to see.

We have also received some reports of people finding ticks on themselves or their clothing. It seems like we are going to have a bumper crop of ticks this year and the last thing we want is anyone getting sick (even if you get a tick latched on to you the chances of catching a disease is small if you act quickly and correctly).

Here is a video of how and were you should check yourself for ticks while on field and when you get home. Please do not remove ticks if you do not know how to do such.

Thank you in the continued effort to keep our membership safe. Marcus, BLD 1st.

5.1 - New Rule Book and PM Annoucements

This past BOD meeting a new Rule Book was passed. A list of changes and clarifications from the Clarification Log were implemented. The newly appointed Play Master 1st, Jeremiah Klabis, would like to inform members that a player survey will be released soon about the Rule Book and its changes. The Playmaster staff will be giving 6 PM XP to every player who submits the Playmaster Player Survey! Be on the lookout for the survey soon, in the meantime please familiarize yourself with the new rulebook.

4.30 - Item Creation / Tag Submission

Dear Members of K1,

It came to the Economics Marshals team's attention that some players are using saved url links to an old Item Creation / Tag Submission form that they have saved before my time as Economic Marshal, and have been submitting tag and coin requests. That form is no longer in use or ownership by the K1 Econ team. The most updated link is on the kanar.club website and should have a light blue background. If you have been submitting a request for items using the old form, please resubmit your item/coin request with it noted which event you were crafting between. If you have any more questions please reach out to econ@kanar.club.

Thank you,

Matthew Schaar

Town Hall Meeting

Hello everyone,

The last time we had a town meeting, we talked about making these a regular occurrence. So the Even and Odd Year Reps would like the chance to talk to everyone again about the changes that have been made. We hope to answers player questions, concerns and get some good advice from the players moving into this Kanar season. We plan to host this on the Kanar Gaming Enterprises Discord Server, on May 28th at 7:00 pm, and it is open to all Kanar members.

Thank you,
Odd and Even Year Reps

2021 State of the Property

Hello KGE Members,

The Building and Land Department would like to thank everyone for rolling with the punches on the rollout of the new Caretaker Handbook. As with the release of any new documentation system, it was not always smooth sailing, but we have heard your feedback and are already looking at document edits we would like to make in 2022. A huge thank you to Matt Ash and Holly Eatinger who were instrumental in the creation of this document.

With the rollout of the Caretaker Handbook members now have a more defined path to new site/structure approval and maintenance expectations. Building construction guidelines are more clearly laid out so that members have a starting point when thinking about structure design. Most importantly, members now have a one-stop shop for 95% of the information they will need for being a Site Caretaker. This is a massive improvement over our old system and something that I am extremely proud of.

Out of the twenty-seven Caretaker Handbooks that were sent out to existing site owners only four were not returned or declined. I think this is just another example of how invested the current membership is in our property. I want to assure everyone that existing Caretakers were communicated with multiple times over this rollout and attempted contact was made to members who we did not get a response from on at least three separate occasions.

One of these declined sites was a personal site where zero modifications to the land had been made. Thus, the site will be erased from the book and not reopened to the membership as it is a patch of unworked forest and nothing more.

A site that will be open for members to apply for is the “Tipsey Mouse / Drunken Duck / Sleepy Goblin” also known as the small bar by the town firepit. I built this structure back in 2017 and it has held up remarkably. The Building and Land Department looks forward to what the next Caretaker does with this site. If you are interested in applying for this site please email the Building and Land Department. If none of the members want this site as it currently exists we will open the structure up to the membership to be relocated to an existing site.

Tribeland was not signed for by its previous Caretaker and thus the Building and Land Department is going to take this opportunity to relocate Tribeland to an area of the field that is more closely connected to High Trail or Low Trail. If any current members of Tribe would like to volunteer to be the Caretaker of this new site please email the Building and Land Department. The BLD will happily assist in moving what remains of the current Tribeland to the new site. While the choice to relocate Tribeland was a hard one, I feel that placing it near one of our existing and maintenanced trails improves player safety, increases inner club comradery, and makes community storytelling easier for our members and our staff. I look forward to working with the new Caretaker of Tribeland to find a new spot for those members and to creating a new and special place for that group. Once this new site is established “Tribe Trail” will no longer be maintenanced or recognized by the BLD.

The Claddagh site has become available. Anyone who has been on the property in the past year knows that this site has fallen into a state of disrepair and that special attention is going to be needed to make this area safe for play once we return to live events. There has been an outpouring of members who are interested in taking over parts of this site. Thus, the Building and Land Department will be breaking this large site into three, more manageable sites. Let me make one thing very clear, as long as I am the Building and Land Director, House Claddagh will always have a place at this site. This site has been their home for almost a generation and it is important that we preserve those memories. House Claddagh will still be in the center of town, it is just going to look a little different. I am currently in talks with two active members of House Claddagh, to make sure that this historically established group of players feel like they are getting a fair shake as we reorganize this area of the field.

As was pointed out at the last Board of Directors meeting, the area of NPC Land has sustained heavy damage over the past year. The Building and Land Department asks that club members stay out of this area unless doing work on it. I am actively in talks with our Safety Staff to make sure that we have a plan in place for once we are able to have in-person workdays. As soon as this area is safe for use the Building and Land Department plans to expand Tent City to a second site so that we can have more room, and more privacy, for our members who want to camp out on our property.

Club members who will be returning to the property for the first time in a few months will notice some signs making visitors aware that there are cameras on the property. I have been asked a number of times if this is a bluff and I will again make it clear to the membership that KGE does have cameras on the property to protect club and member investments. The only time images from these cameras will be used is for vandalism, theft, or other criminal activity investigations. These cameras are moved around to make sure that almost all of our property is monitored every month. If you come upon one of these cameras please leave it alone.

Lastly, I want to thank all of our members that have been safely utilizing our property during the past year. While we are a club rooted in Live Action Roleplay we are also a club centered around 44 acres in Milan, MI. Your membership fee grants you access to the property 24-hour/365 days a year, with the exception of when the lands are rented to a third party. Every hour our property has a club member on it is an hour with increased property protection and where memories are being made. While the BLD often is focused on structures, trees, and firepits, we do it with the hope that our fellow club members are going to make amazing memories on this community land.

I thank you for taking the time to read this report and as always I welcome your thoughts and feedback via my official club email - bld@kanar.club.

Yours in comradery,

- Marcus Schwimmer , BLD 1st

Module Land Off Limits Until Further Notice

Module Land Off Limits Until Further Notice

Safety and the BLD are currently monitoring a hazardous land situation. There are a number of trees in Module Land that are about to fall or have already fallen over the winter. They have caused some damage to the D’Cather area and made trails impassable at several points in the loop. A number of trees are brittle enough to be pushed over by hand, leading to serious concerns about players accidentally felling trees during modules. As of right now, the Safety and BLD departments request that players avoid the NPC area past the old Brisbane camp and remain strictly on the trails when walking to Tent City or the Supply Depot.

Countess Llynora Lavode cordially invites the Heroes of the Battle for Daggett to a festival being held in their honor!

Following the astounding victory seen in Narrdmyr last November, relations between the two kingdoms are stronger than ever. Novashan has seen an influx of travelers coming back from the south, and the kingdom is prospering.

Countess Llynora wishes to express her gratitude to the heroes who came to our neighbor’s aid when they sounded the call and to share some of the winter’s good fortune. The Vernal Equinox festival to be held in Yardsmuth shall be dedicated to their honor with food and drink to those who wish it at the Blue Jay Inn. All are welcome to share in the weekend celebration of victory, but a special call goes out to the displaced Festival of Ilveresh: please accept our congratulations and thanks for your courageous efforts.

Coin Drop Off and Feast Package Pick Up

Coin Drop Off and Feast Package Pick Up

It's less than six weeks until the KANAR 2021 season is here. We on the Economics Team are hard at work getting ready for not only the Discord events, but hopefully getting back to having events on the field.

A lot happened in 2020. While our members dealt with the end of 2020 into the 2021 year after our November event, Econ continued to be hard at work making sure we are ready for you in the March event. Coins are being cleaned, tags are printed and ready for pick up, and we are always ready to serve our members with Econ questions and needs.

We have been hard at work on a few projects, and are excited to be able to show them off in the near future. For example, we have a player Asset List and a player Bank Ledger, which we are excited to show everyone. While there will be more work that needs to be done throughout the year we are looking forward to getting these projects to you as soon as possible.

Coin drop off and Feast package pick up.

With the game still restricted to Discord events we plan on having Coin & Tag pick up and drop off dates. We hope people will be willing to drop off their coin during these dates throughout the year before live events resume. We are hoping to collect as much of the coin back as possible so we have a chance to clean all the coins, as a way to make it safe for when we return to live events.

We are going to take it slow and safe. The first drop off date will be on March 6th, from 11am to 6 pm est, in the property driveway at 10418 Plank Road Milan, MI, 48160, weather permitting.

We will be having a used tags drop off as well. You can set up an appointment with econ at econ@kanar.club

The following one will be on March 13th from 11am to 6pm at the same location, weather permitting.

If for some reason we can't meet on the field we will be at the Love’s gas station at 14137 Plank Road, Milan, MI 48160. An update will be posted if changed to this location.

This will be only for Coin drop off and Feast gift bags pick up, as we test Econ Covid Guidelines to ensure safety for both staff and members alike. More details will be added to the calendar later.

Just as a reminder for players for a few things for 2021.

Firstly, when you're using coins during an event you are spending your real coin that we will pull from your bank. This includes when you are crafting an item when you don't have the material tags.

If you were or are using one-use items like potions or alchemy's, those items are to be considered used and should be put aside until you're able to turn them in to Econ. Also keep in mind that tags no longer expire unless they are plot items. They will need to be approved with a signature from the Econ First but will be given back to you.

If you are crafting, please keep in mind that if you're using crafting materials for the items we will need to have materials turned in before you can get said tags. If for some reason a materials tag or item is lost we will work with you, within reason, so you can get your tag. This also goes for when breaking an item down for materials and learning new recipes.

If you have tags that need to get to players, you're more than welcome to leave them with Econ, and they will be put into the Player Bank folder of said player with an email to let them know that we have the tag.

Update From New CBM

Update From New CBM

2.8.21 - Update

Hello Fellow Kanarbies!

We wanted to thank everyone for their patience and to let you all know that all of the new Character Sheet links from the 2020 Kanar Gaming Event Season have been sent out!

If you did not receive a new link, no need to worry, we humbly ask that you please send us an email at cbm@kanar.club, and we will get you all taken care of!

Likewise, if you have any questions or concerns, in regards to your sheet, never hesitate to reach out to us, as we are here to help!

That aside, we look forward to seeing you all at the next Kanar Gaming Event!

Thank you again!

  • Glen “Rath” Adkins - CBM 1st

  • Alicia Secord - CBM 2nd

  • Parisa Anahid - CBM 3rd

  • Kerstin Louis - CBM 4th

  • Rebecca Coleman CBM - 5th

2.5.21 - Announcement

Hello Fellow Kanarbies,

I hope everyone is as excited as we are about the upcoming Feast event, and the long anticipated 2021 Kanar Gaming season! Last year was certainly a rough go for everyone all over the world, but I think we are starting to see some light at the end of the long and proverbial tunnel! I hope everyone is safe and doing as well as can be expected, in spite of everything.

Myself and my CBM staff wanted to take a moment to touch base with all of you and to share some information with you. I am sure by now, many are looking at your sheets, wondering “why haven’t they updated my sheet, yet!”

The good news is, we HAVE (well, we are pretty sure, anyway)! All we need to do now is send out your new Character Sheet links, as the current links (due to some required and expected technical mumbo jumbo site changes) are no longer valid and then you’ll be all set for the next season!

In the coming days, you should all start seeing this new link show up at the email address that we have on file for you and once we are all done sending these links, we will let everyone know via the Kanar.club website and on FB. This way, if in the event someone didn't receive one or there are errors or things missing, we have plenty of time to address them.

If for some reason you do find something of concern or an issue on your sheet, please don't panic! We got you! I have no doubt we will get it all figured out. Just send us a friendly email and explain your dilemma and we will get to it as quickly as we can!

We really appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding, while we navigate through this together and you can trust we will be working hard to give all of you, our very best!

So, with all that being said, and on behalf of myself and the rest of YOUR CBM staff, we miss all of your faces, and can’t wait to get things started!! See you at the next event,

  • Glen “Rath” Adkins - CBM 1st

  • Alicia Secord - CBM 2nd

  • Parisa Anahid - CBM 3rd

  • Kerstin Louis - CBM 4th

  • Rebecca Coleman CBM - 5th

A Message from Staff

A Message from Staff

Hello everyone!
I hope the holiday season is treating you well. I have two announcements for you today, the first one being from the Game Master, and the second one being from the Board of Directors and the GSOM.

Have a great weekend!

-Aaron

From the Game Master

Hello players, thank you for sticking with us together during the pandemic.

GM and Econ staff would like to announce that any tags expiring during the 2020 season will be automatically considered as valid until January 2022. We know these are unprecedented times and times like these mean that we must be as adroit as possible.

Those who were awarded time sensitive tags for our last physical feast please email the GM at gm@kanar.club with a description of tag awarded by 12/20 for important information regarding feast tournament rewards.

Thank you,

-Steve, GM1

From the Board of Directors and GSOM

Dear Players,

There has been a lot of question about the 2020 Agelong event, specifically in regards to XP. Here is the solution that we have come up with:

Season Pass Holders

  • Players who purchased Season Passes for 2020 will be given 70 XP for the June Weeklong event.

  • Effectively, season pass holders had already purchased tickets for a 10 day event ($40), and per SOP 8.2.3.1 they should gain the XP as though that were a full 10 day event.

Non Season Pass Holders

  • We want all of our players to be afforded the same opportunities. As such, non season pass holders will have the ability to purchase a $20 voucher for 42 XP.

  • Since XP can be gained at 6 XP per day, this makes up for the 7 days we were unable to play, and ensures that those who want this extra XP have paid the same amount as season pass holders.

  • This XP voucher will be available to purchase through December 31st, 2020, and is to make up for the lack of a full 10 day event.

  • Season Pass Holders are not eligible to purchase this voucher as they will automatically be granted XP.

  • These vouchers are limited to one per player.

This allows for all players (season pass holders and non) to catch up to the normal amount of XP one would earn in a year (plus some because of the December 1 day event!).

Please know that this is a one time thing we are doing, and these offers will likely not come up again.

Special times call for special measures. We want to thank you for sticking by Kanar even during a pandemic, and adapting to online events.

Thank you all, stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you next season!

- Staff

Sorry! The due date for this voucher has passed, and it is no longer available for purchase.
