Proposals to update multiple SOP documents were approved. Specifically:
K1G-001 K1 SOP 23.02 to bring the CBM title in line with the other positions of the same level. Additionally a grammar correction, and rephrasing of sections to be gender neutral.

1.1-KGE-RO 23.10 to change verbiage to be gender neutral and fix an old acronym to be updated.

1.3-KGE-SPS 23.01 to change verbiage and update an old acronym.

K1G-002 POL 001-007 23.02 to change verbiage and update an old acronym.

K1-POL-002 now reads:
The use of tags in Kanar is vital to the game play. It is the intent of this policy to set up a process that shall enforce the use of tags without slowing the pace of the game as a whole. Therefore, the Kanar Game Staff Operations Managers (KGSOM) have set forth this statement of policy to be followed by all members of K1.
In order for your Player Character (PC) to use or carry any item requiring a tag, you must have both a physical representation (Phys Rep) and an item tag. Crafting Materials are an exemption to this policy; they do not require you to have a physical representation. However, crafting tags may be stolen.
If the Phys Rep is lost or taken, and there is no item tag to be found on you, then the item is still considered lost / stolen by a thief.
Items that a PC or Non-Player Character (NPC) could not physically carry require the use of a "Deed of Ownership". A deed of ownership is a piece of parchment with the word deed written on it, what it is a deed of, and the tag number it is associated with. Deeds of Ownership are stealable.
Armor worn by a PC cannot be stolen unless physically removed. You may only have armor tags on you that you have physical representations for.
Temporary Tags that are issued during the current event are stealable without a physical representation present. If a tag is lost and there is no Phys Rep, the item is lost forever. If a PC still has their Phys Rep, but the tag is lost, they may get the tag back.

K1G-001 K1 SOP 23.02 that allows the splitting of the rulebook into multiple documents. The Kanar Rulebook will be divided into the following book types: The Core Rulebook and Supplementary Rulebook Codex(s).
The Core Rulebook: This document will contain the core mechanical aspects of the game, which are deemed to be integral to the operation of the standard aspects of the game. Supplementary Rulebook Codex(s): These documents will supplement the Core Rulebook; they are intended to allow for more in-depth game play without bloating the Core Rulebook and its core mechanics.

Subclasses approved.

3.24 - Seasonal Reminder of the Personal Safety Policy

Hello, players! Safety 1st Kiri here. I've had a few questions this event about what to do if roleplay on field gets a little intense and causes some worry about whether the feelings are in character or out. Below is KGE policy #18, which covers personal safety while at our games. Please make sure you're especially familiar with the process for how to check on other players during gameplay. It's a long post, but important to know. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read through!

Personal Safety

Personal safety is important to Kanar Gaming Enterprises, Inc. We hope members make informed decisions before playing the game. Therefore, the KGE Board of Directors has set forth this statement of policy to be followed by all members of KGE.

  1. KGE sponsored games, like K1, use padded facsimiles of melee and ranged weapons in simulated combat.

  2. KGE recommends that every player wear an athletic supporter, padded gloves, and safety goggles.

  3. Pregnant members may attend KGE events as non-combatants.

  4. During any sponsored game a participating member may break character, putting their hand over their head and speaking out-of-game, to let other participants know that they are not feeling real-world safe in the situation. If needed, a hold may be called. Participants should assess their gameplay, consider whether they are roleplaying in line with the code of conduct, and either find a way to safely re-engage in gameplay or disengage from the situation entirely. Any participant can choose to walk away from any situation they feel is unsafe.

This guideline should be followed when handling unsafe situations:

If a participant communicates that they feel unsafe and is able to communicate what is making them feel unsafe, the participants involved are encouraged to have a short discussion on how the situation can be changed to resolve the issue.

  • If a solution can be reached, players are encouraged to re-engage in gameplay with changes made.
  • If a solution can not be reached or the changes do not remedy the situation, the unsafe participant is encouraged to disengage from the situation and seek out a member of staff as needed.

If a participant communicates that they feel unsafe and is not able to communicate what is making them unsafe:

  • Without a communicated way to resolve the issue, it is highly recommended that the participant disengage from the situation and seek out a member of staff as needed.

If a participant is concerned that another participant is feeling unsafe or unwell, they are encouraged to put their hand on their head and briefly check in. We recommend the following methods:

  • Verbally, by quietly asking if everything is 'mundanely okay' and getting a verbal response from the other participants. This should not interrupt surrounding gameplay unless a hold needs to be called.
  • Nonverbally, by giving a thumbs up and receiving either a thumbs up for safe or thumbs down for unsafe.

If all participants are safe, gameplay should continue. If they are not, participants should follow the resolution guide listed above.

If a participant is leaving the event due to not feeling real-world safe, a member of the Safety Response Team must be informed of the issue before the participant leaves the property so an investigation can begin. The Safety Response Team member must report the situation to Safety 1st for further investigation. If needed, see the guideline for extreme situations below.

In case of extremely unsafe situations, the following procedure should be followed:

  • A hold should be called by the participant that does not feel safe.
  • A member of the Safety Response Team must escort the unsafe-feeling participant to an out-of-game area.
  • If a member of the Safety Response Team is not present, the participant who called the hold should designate someone to escort them to an out-of-game area and stay with them until a member of the Response Team arrives.
  • The Response Team member or designated escort and unsafe participant will walk off the field of play with a hand over their head. The escorting party will designate someone to call off the hold for those not involved with the safety issue once they are fully clear of the situation.
  • A Response Team member will remain with the participant at all times until the situation is resolved or the participant leaves KGE property.
  • A member of Play Master, Game Master, and Safety Staffs are required to address the situation with the other participants involved, investigate whether rules or policies have been broken in the situation, and deliver warnings and removal from gameplay as warranted. This is to be done in an out-of-game area which may not be the same area where the unsafe-feeling participant and Response Team member have gone.
  • If the participants involved are removed from the event, a member of the Board of Directors must be contacted to escort the removed participants from the field of play as per procedure.
  • If the situation is investigated by a member of staff who is not the head of their department, their department head must be notified of updates as soon as possible.
  • Disciplinary actions must be documented with the Safety department.
  • If the investigation determines that action beyond the scope of the GM, PM, and Safety staff is required, a Judicial Review Board Request should be submitted by the unsafe-feeling participant. The Board of Directors will review the investigation findings and actions suggested by the investigating party and determine whether removal from a staff position, suspension, or removal from KGE is warranted via the Judicial Review process.

Thank you for reading to the end! If you have any questions about any of this, please talk to me on field or send an email to safety@kanar.club.

-Kiri, Safety 1st

3.22 - Start of 3/22/2024 Game pushed back to 7:00 pm

Good afternoon, KGE Membership:

While we are all excited to start the 2024 Kanar Season, The Game Master Staff, Safety Staff, and Building & Land Department have all met and agreed to push the start of today’s event back to 7:00 pm due to inclement weather and poor road conditions. Players can still access the property before 7:00 pm, but “Game On” will not start until that time. This is in hopes that members and staff have extra time to travel to the property safely.

We do not make this decision lightly as we respect our membership's commitment to the game and the playtime you dedicate to your characters.

With thanks,
The Game Master Staff, Safety Staff, and Building & Land Department

February Announcements (2.21)

2.19 - Armor System Clarification

Hello everyone!

The Game Master Staff and Play Master Staff have been working together to bring you the following change to lighten the burden on the new armor system.

Armor Locations that share a singular physical representation can be merged through the Economic Staff. These merged locations would share a AP (Armor Points) pool. Meaning they would be broken together but would also mean they can be repaired together. This also means if you have 4 locations of plate merged into 1 tag they would need to take a total of 80 damage before breaking.

This should make the new changes to the armor system easier to manage.

We hope to see every again for this season, let's make it a great year!

We have several large trees throughout the property that need to be taken down, cut, and stacked. We are having a professional drop the largest ones leading up to Sat 12/2. There is not a ton of daylight to work with this time of year, so we need all the help we can get! Some loppers will be available for small limbing work.

Be sure to dress warmly, bring a pair of thick gloves, and brings some water. If you have your own loppers or saw, please bring your tools.

BLD will be offering double XP for the work day(s) = 4 XP per hour worked!

We are looking forward to clearing up what we can, and hope to see you out there!

October Announcements (10.20)

10.20 - All-Hallows Hype Post

The colors change and the tensions rise as Fall firmly holds the lands. All Hallow approaches, and the veil between the lands of the living and the lands of the dead thins to but a sheet, naught but a whisper between them. The dead will walk again, but what other voices share in their cacophony to be unleashed? Clawing, digging from below. Hunger, whispers from beyond. Echoes, desperation from within. Enemies in all directions. Blood in the streets. Are heroes forged in such times, or do villains rise to power?

Undertakers from the County of Bellanmo are sending in reports of bodies being snatched from local cemeteries and large cracks in the earth opening up to swallow graves whole. What horrors await under the soil of Ilveresh, and when will they show themselves? Children are reporting that their dolls have gone missing, with some stating they they have watched them walk into the woods. Are these two things connected?

Lets make it a great event, we cant wait to see you on field,
-GM Team

10.20 - GM logistics Pots

Hello,

We are heading into the October event it’s important to discuss some logistic and extra information that will help make this event a great success.

There is a lot planned this event. NPC’s are needed and will help make things even better. There will obviously be a lot of combat NPC’s, but there will be non-combatant as well. Feel free to go to the GM shed to volunteer.

If you do NPC, make sure to listen to the GM team and follow your role appropriately. Do not go off script as it can derail the story that the team has created.

Safety, safety, safety. With it being cold, be careful of your swings. With it getting dark, be careful of your swings. Make sure to eat and drink. If you are too cold, get to warmth. Take care of yourselves out there. Also be careful with your fellow players as well.

There is a pumpkin carving contest happening! Please bring a pumpkin and carve it! Judging and prizes will be awarded. There is a knight of atonement Friday night and a wedding Saturday during the day. Feel free to interact with both of those as they are great RP opportunities.

Saturday at noon is Adventure Academy Trick or Treating! If you have a house/cabin/spot/etc and want to pass out candy, please do so! If you are level 5 or just want to learn about the area, it would be cool to have a costume but not necessary. We will be walking around and talking about our lands, mostly in game, but with some fun out of game stuff as well.

Thank you to everyone. Honestly, the staff for the work they do, the players for the input they have, and everyone in between. This game does not run without all the dedication that you have.

GM Team

Do you just want to help out The GM team?

If the answer to any of those questions is yes, please join the discord and ask to get involved!

We hope to see all who can make it this event, let's make it a great one!!

September Announcements (9.18)

9.18 - GM event teaser

Summer wanes as fall greets Ilverash at the onset of war. Novashan and Narrdmyr clash in the southern forests of Ausdauer, marking the first major battle and the first decisive victory of King Daffyd. Novashan struggles to maintain its sovereignty while forces within and without try to divide and claim the lands once stewarded by the late Prince Duncan, friend to all who now seek to sunder his legacy.

As fall marks the change of seasons, so too does it mark changes in the politics of the land. With the upcoming knighting of two more faithful heroes of Novashan, the old guard stand by to raise the new with hopes of a continued legacy of chivalry in a land desperate for heroes. Meanwhile, as Anadarr heals from the loss of it’s beloved Duke, the King appoints an old friend to take the reigns and lead the southern duchy to prosperity and victory.

We hope to see all who can make it this weekend, let's make it a good event!

8.16 - From The Game Masters Staff For The August 2023 Festival

With the shadows of war fully upon Novashan, the knights meet in the traditional festival grounds of Illvaresh, will they pull together to face the threat of the Narrdmyrian king William or will they fracture under the pressure?

Duke Kieran D`Kalin long absent from the festival must make a decision of whether to support the south of Novashan against the deceitful King William or listen to the council of the Northern Elves of Ashan?

Tensions rise on the border of Wildemere, will Novashon retain its long-held territory?

All the while the great swamp stirs from its slumber, will a forgotten threat rear its head!

[The Knights Conclave will be held this coming Saturday. There will be a field swap on Sunday to help determine how the war is going]

We hope to see all who can make it this weekend, let's make it a good event!

2023 KGE Directors Election Results

2023 KGE Directors Election Results

Hello everyone,

Below you will find the results for the 2023 KGE Directors Election. We had about an 85% voter response, which is quite excellent for our club. We would like to welcome to their seats:

  • Erich O. - KGE President

  • Christian C. - KGE Secretary

  • Tashina O. - KGE Odd Year Player Representative

We would like to thank Jake S, Aaron P, and Melissa J for their time served on the Board of Directors. Our club is only able to run through volunteerism, and we appreciate those who have given their time, energy, and dedication to these difficult positions.

Since no candidate got 50.1% in the first round of the President vote (required for majority), the vote for President moved on to the second round. The candidate with the lowest number is removed from the ballot, and the people who voted for them now have their second pick added to the total votes for the remaining candidates. Here is the final breakdown:

We would also like to thank all of the candidates who ran for positions this time around. The willingness of our club members to serve is what keeps Kanar alive and thriving!

June Announcements (6.21)

6.21 - FRIDAY NIGHT NPC REQUEST

Hello everyone!

Now that I am mostly functional, I want to write a bit about Friday night which is Agelong. I’m going to pull back the curtain a little bit so that you guys can understand what is going on.

For the first bit, this Agelong will be very different than ones in the past. Instead of Elves vs. Orcs, we are having Elves/Orcs/people vs Rising Dawn. This is a protect the VIP’s style mission and have a lot of story behind it. This is also going to roll into what the next year’s agelong will be which is so far titled “The Hunt.” I won’t give much more information on that, but it’s something that I feel will be a very unique and fun experience moving forward.

Field will not be closed for the night. In Agelong’s past, we have made the whole field closed so that you needed to participate in the event as either PC or NPC. We have had some where it was partially closed where only few people could sit in one area. But at this point, it is going to be open so that if you don’t want to participate, you don’t have to. Enjoy hearing about the stories.

I will need NPC’s Friday night. It is always appreciated for those that help and will help serve the greater good. My hope is roughly post dinner till about 11, with some different stuff happening after that. Agelong used to go all night, but for various reasons (safety being a major one) this is not happening.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I will try my best to answer them. I am still a little foggy with things as I’m working through getting better with the sickness, but I’m doing much better than before. Thanks everyone and I can’t wait to see you out!

Erich O. GM 3rd"

6.12 - Skills Information About Weeklong

Hello everyone!
I hope you are all doing well and getting excited for the upcoming weeklong event that is just around the corner!

I am writing to let the membership know that in keeping with the long standing tradition, the limit for teaching and learning skills will be 8 with a single signout at the end of the event!

This means you will be able to participate in 8 teaching lessons and 8 learning lessons! Either in individual lessons or group lessons!

We believe this will create more roleplay situations and give more opportunities for players to create some of their own fun during the long event!

See you all at the event!
Glen “Rath” Adkins
CBM1st

6.12 - A letter from the Treasurer

There seems to be some confusion. If you are new to the club and Weeklong is your first event then the event is free as this SOP currently applies.

K1G-001 K1 SOP 23.02 8.1 First Event. To provide prospective members the ability to familiarize themselves with the activities of K1, the first event a person attends in that person’s lifetime is free.

RPOE are excluded from this SOP as well as any special event such as "Winter Feast".

Thank you,
Maria KGE Treasurer

6.11 - Missing Payment Arrangements

Were you super excited to get to larp and forgot to make sure you paid or make payment arrangements before hitting the field of play? Are you unsure if your payment went through online or did you just simply forget?

Please reach out to the Treasurer to make payment arrangements and or pay the missing dues / event fees by Wednesday, June 14th.

Thank you,
Maria KGE Treasurer

6.11 - From the Desk of CBM1st

Hello fellow past and potential new members,

With the June 2023 Weeklong event rapidly approaching, we wanted to pass along some very important information to everyone:

If you are currently not a member and you are considering attending the June Weeklong event, it is very important that you get your character information submitted to CBM@kanar.club no later than Thursday June 15th 8:00PM! If you are unable to do so, you will still be able to play but you may be asked to NPC or pick a premade character until such time that staff can assist you.

If you are a past member and you currently have a legacy character sheet (Pre-2020), your character sheet must be converted to the current version BEFORE you can play that character on field. The conversion process is somewhat tedious and can be quite time consuming so we ask instead that you reach out to CBM@kanar.club no later than Thursday June 15th 8:00PM to get your sheet converted to the current version. Otherwise you may choose to play a premade character (1st Level) or NPC the event instead.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, We can’t wait to see you on field! Your CBM Team!

6.9 - Port-a John cleaning

I just got off the phone with the Disposal company, they had service issues this week and our units did not get cleaned. They hope to have someone out to take care them on Saturday.

Thank you,
Maria KGE Treasurer

6.9 - QM Work Day!

QM will be having a work day on July 1st starting at noon. The goal is to clean up, organize, and inventory the QM shed. All hands welcome. The more the merrier. There's always stuff to be done. If you have any questions feel free to contact staff at qm@kanar.club.

Thank you, QM1 Daniel Miller

6.1 - Photographer on Field

A photographer will be on field during the next Kanar Event, if you aren't familiar with the Photo & Video policy you can read about it on our website at https://kanar.club/blog-posts/photography-and-videography-policy

5.30 - Tag Audits

From the desk of the playmaster.

Starting at the June event tag audits will be performed. Any tags found on a player on the field of play without physical representation will be confiscated and given to the Game Master 1st. These tags will not be returned to the player. The player will also receive a step of disciplinary action.

Temp tags will be ignored for tag audits to provide a reasonable amount of time for players to get physical representation for their newly looted items.

For horses houses and other items that there is no way to have a physical representation you should make paper writs of ownership for them that will act as the physical representation of these items.

Thank you Jeremiah Playmaster 1st

Update to PM clarification log

6/1/2023 You may use a number of similar physreps to represent small items which may be very visually similar to each other (such as potions, alchemies, or raw materials). For instance, you may choose to carry seven small bottles to represent the potions you are carrying, even though you may be carrying ten. In this case, after you have used seven potions of any type, you may not use any more potions until you have left the field of play and returned in order to simulate a trip to retrieve more potions.

This contradicts the k1 tag policy and has to be ignored. All tags on the field of play carried by a player are required to have physical representations with the exception oftags freshly looted from a npc.

Jeremiah, PM1

Good morning, everyone! Friendly neighborhood Safety 1st Kiri here with a special request for the May event.

The torches on field need to be filled for tonight and tomorrow, and we may need more kerosene. I'm offering 5 Safety XP to volunteers for each night this event to take the kerosene container in a cart around the trails to fill all torches with pink tape on them, and 1XP/$1 for a filled kerosene jug (please keep receipts). This task is best done in pairs, and this XP does go on top of the normal 30XP event cap!

As of right now, we have had zero Lamplighters Guild volunteers for this season. If you would like to become a regular Lamplighter volunteer, there is an in-game aspect to joining the Lamplighters Guild in character, which includes coin among other things.

To remind players, you are encouraged and welcome to light torches you come across once it starts to get dark on the trails.

For questions please email safety@kanar.club or see me at the GM shed at the event. I'm not on Facebook, so I won't see anything posted here.

See you all out there! Kiri, Safety 1/GM 2

5.19 - GM Event Hype

EVENT HYPE: The Bugbear flip module will take place on Saturday starting at 1:00. This flip mod will take place on the NPC Land section of the property so if you do not want to participate the town of Illveresh will be open to you.

A few reminders - players are responsible for providing their own water. This is going to be a combat heavy mod, with things for non-coms to do, so you are going to want to hydrate before, during, and after.

We have started to see poison ivy pop up. Please be mindful of where you fall down to die. We want everyone to have a good time and a bad case of poison ivy post event will be a downer for everyone. If you do not know what poison ivy looks like, please find me before the mod so I can point it out to you.

There will be a number of staff in pink sashes to make an encounter of this size work. These staff will not only be helping with logistics for the module but will also be watching for safe fighting. If a staff member comments on your fighting, please follow their lead. If you disagree with their call, then please let the staff know after the module has concluded. Staff will not tolerate arguments from players during the module. We will likely have over 100 players on this mod and maybe a dozen staff. It's not that we don't want to hear your concerns, we just need to have our eyes on the situation at hand.

Loot will be handed out after the module. There will be no need to loot every NPC. This is to make sure that our NPCs can get off the ground and to a safe spot as soon as possible. Please stay after the module has concluded to get your loot.

Please remember that "Hold" is our word for everyone to stop and check for a safety event. We have recently encountered some scenarios of people using the word "hold" to indicate that a fighting line should be stationary. Any use of the word "hold" will be considered a safety call and combat will be stopped. Also, "Healer" is the call that should be used for magic healing folks. "Medic" is a term for OOG safety members.

All PCs will be split into two groups. An NPC will be sent to Illveresh on Friday night with more information on how PCs should split themselves and to answer any questions about the encounter IG. The Adventurer's Academy will still be taking place this month with the Academy teachers showing up to Illveresh around 11:00 am. We will not be able to wait around for players to get ready due to the full timeline we have planned for Saturday. If you are under 6th level and want to go on the Adventurer's Academy adventure, please be ready at 11:00 am to roll out.

Thats all for now! - Marcus S.

5.17 - From the Desk of CBM1st

Hello Everyone, We hope you are all looking forward to this coming event! We wanted to reach out and let you know about some changes that have been made to the Character Signout Form.

Recently it was decided that the number of days that a member attended an event was not relevant anymore for XP purposes unless they purchased a one day event pass. That being said, with the creation of the different ticket tiers and season pass tiers, it became more important to track attendance and xp awarded by the ticket and not the days a player attended.

Once this distinction was determined, we decided to change up the signout form to reflect the membership level or ticket tier purchased for any given event.

When you do your next signout, you will notice that there is no longer a question asking you how many days you attended and rather the ticket level or membership tier instead.

We hope that the changes will not only assist CBM but will also make your signout experience just a little bit easier. There are now 13 options to choose from.

The number of days is no longer being asked and instead the question is:

‘What tier of membership/ticket did you purchase? If you paid but were unable to attend, please choose your corresponding membership/ticket - Did Not Attend.’

We ask that you choose the option that most represents your ticket or membership/ticket/attendance level for that event or season.

For Example, if you attended the most recent Role Play Event, please pick that option when doing your signout for that event.

If you attended a regular event and you are a season pass holder, please choose the option for “Season Pass” and the tier of Season Pass you purchased for that season.

If you paid for the event or are a season pass holder and for whatever reason you were unable to attend, please choose the appropriate ticket level or season pass level and “Did Not Attend”.

With all of this being said, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at CBM@kanar.club. We will be more than happy to assist you.

See you all at the event, Your CBM Staff

5.9 - CBM

Hello everyone! Just your CBM crew here to let you know your character sheet updates for the April Live Event have been completed!

As always, if you find something of concern or issue or you didn't get an update, Please check the ""Staff Comments"" tab on your sheet for possible information, or you can reach out to us at cbm@kanar.club and I am sure we can work together to get it taken care of!

Just a friendly reminder, we ask that players refrain from sending emails with questions regarding updates to their sheets or any missing information or XP until after we have posted that all of the current event updates have been completed.

Often we do updates in waves and sometimes we are not done with your sheet even if it says your update is complete for that event.

That all being said, we thank you all for your understanding and patience.

See you at the next event! Your CBM Staff!
